PLEASE NOTE: There is a proposed amendment to the Post By-Laws. Take a moment to read it further down this page.

Our 4th of July picnic was a great success as the weather cooperated and side dishes were plentiful.

Membership for 2008 is on target and 2009 renewals are being sent out. The Early Bird party is scheduled for September 26th, so mark your calendars.

The Labor Day picnic is scheduled for Monday September 1st. Volunteers are needed for preparation, cooking, and clean-up. Please bring side dishes to share.

I want to recognize our volunteer workers for all of their efforts and time. We could not keep this post going without them. Everyone should thank them and remember that they work for free.

Thanks to Bill Reitzle for the use of his 1923 For Model T for the 4th of July Parade. It was a great hit for the spectators. The post was honorably represented by your King (yours truly) and our Queen (Leslie Howard).

The Department Commander’s barbeque will be help on August 3rd. All members are invited to meet the Department Commander, Terry Huisman, and have a great meal.

I’m very proud to represent this Post and to be your Commander.

For God and Country,
James R. Grant
Post 1 Commander, 2008-2009

    PRESIDENT'S PARCHMENT

What a great summer so far at Post #1! Every event has been a great success.

Senator Ted Stevens joined us for our Memorial Day Picnic and spoke about future legislation, which may assist Alaska’s Veterans’ health care issues.

Jim Grant, Barby Rice, Patrick Rice, and Marilynn Porter have been working on getting the Post cleaned up and beautified for summer. Gardens are blooming and ready for more volunteers to help keep up with weeding, watering, and cleanup.

The 4th of July Parade was great. The turnout was fabulous. Jim Grant and Leslie Howard, the King and Queen of our Post represented us well. Please make sure you thank these two “Volunteers of the Year” for their service and Dedication.

On August 3rd our American Legion Department of Alaska Commander and Auxiliary President will be visiting at 3pm. We will have a great BBQ to celebrate and welcome them.

Anyone who made it to Early Bird last year knows the Desert Auction and Dinner is going to be the place to be on September 26th. Come on down for the party! If you would like to bring a desert, have it at the Post by noon. Paying your dues gets you in to enjoy a free dinner, into raffles for amazing prizes, and great company. This year’s theme is “Oldies but Goodies” so get out your poodle skirts and leather jackets.

    For God and Country,
    Aurora Courtney
    Unit 1, 1st Vice President
