![]() by: James R. Grant, Commander Our 90th anniversary celebration was an astounding success. It was very well attended. Our guest speakers, who all gave excellent speeches, included Department Commander Harry Pawson, Adjutant General Tom Katkus and Mayor Dan Sullivan. They all praised our Post and our Veterans for 90 years of service to our community, state and nation. This event and the ones leading up to it were a success because of the many volunteers that helped in all the preparations. Thank you all. You are awesome!
Now, I will need help from everyone with an opportunity to move on to another new and exciting endeavor. Jack Henry Post #1 and Post #21 have adopted the 17th Air National Guard Wing (ANG) as their support posts. All of the members of the 176th ANG are locals and part of our community. They deploy frequently out of Kulis Air National Guard Base in C-130 aircraft to Afghanistan and Iraq. We have already begun our support activities by attending four deployments to wish them well, give them donated sandwiches from Subway and Arby’s, chips, jerky and bottled water for their three day trip. We smoked and delivered four smoked turkeys for their family Christmas party on Dec 5th. We formed a committee of post, auxiliary, sons and Post #21 to put together a pallet load of sundry items that flew out of here on Dec 6th as a Christmas stocking present for those who are over there now. We have linked up with family advisory coordinators from the 176th ANG and the Department of Military Affairs to assist in the support of their families while their members are gone. We provided a steak dinner to some of the family members and coordinators last month. We will continue to render our support and be on call to assist in any way within our means. I have received so many words of appreciation and thanks from the 176th ANG. We are a great hit but let’s be humble and praise those who put themselves in harm’s way while we sleep. This is support they need and we are grateful to provide. If anyone would like to help in this program it will be very much appreciated by the 176th ANG. This is what the American Legion is all about. I know this is something we can all take pride in doing. Let’s all dig in and stay tuned for upcoming operations that we will support. Call the Post or come talk to us if you want to assist in this worthy cause. In this, there is a place and calling for everyone. For God and Country, REMINDER: First call for nominations of officers starts in January, and must be completed by March. Please look at your calendars for nomination dates. ![]() 2007 4th of July float. We won 3rd Place ! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
