About our Troop Our troop was established in 2004 as Daisy Scouts with a troop of 8 girls. We are part of the Farthest North Girl Scout Council in Fairbanks, Alaska in the University Service Unit. In May 2005, our troop bridged to Brownies. Our troop is Girl Run, meaning, we try to develop leadership skills by having the girls be active in the decision making of their troop. The activities we participate in are based on their ideas...with a little guidance! Basically, the girls tell me what they would like to do this year, I research what is available to us, present what I find to the girls, and they vote to proceed or not. By girls, for girls! Girl Scouts are divided into four major age groups: * Daisy Girl Scouts (Ages 5-6) * Brownie Girl Scouts (Ages 6-8) * Junior Girl Scouts (Ages 8-11) * Girl Scouts Ages 11-17 A little about the Girl Scouts The Girl Scouts are the world’s pre-eminent organization for girls, where in an open and nurturing environment girls build skills for success in the real world. Skills that will serve them all their lives- like strong values, social conscience, self-esteem, and conviction about their own potential and self-worth. Through Girl Scouts girls discover the fun of friendship and the power of girls together. And through many enriching experiences provided by the Girl Scouts they can grow courageous and strong. A little about our website For safety reasons, I will not post last names of any of the girls or locations of meetings. Better to be safe than sorry. If you have any information you would like to share, like birthdays, special events in your Girl Scouts life, let me know with an email or call. I will be sure to post it here. I welcome any submissions related to the troop and their families! |
