Saturday Night Roast Pork Tenderloin, Macadamia
Crusted Chicken Breast These will be
served with a salad,
one dessert, one starch, one vegetable. Compliments include
warm rolls and sweet cream butter, Starbucks regular and decaffeinated coffee
and iced tea. Ladies Saturday Activity Canvas Painting at
the Studio of Creative Arts (SOCA) This event is limited to the first 50
Ladies that register. The first group of 25 Ladies will start at 10:00
AM at SOCA and will be joined by the second group of 25 ladies at 11:45
for lunch. The event for the second group of Ladies will restart at 1:00 PM and
finish at 2:45 PM. The cost of this event will be $25.00 which will include the
cost of the lunch. Please pay when you register. Door prizes will be given away during lunch. SOCA is within easy walking distance
of the Westin. Bridge Street is an outside mall complete with shops,
restaurants and a movie theater. 2012 DEPARTMENT
OF ALABAMA CONVENTION SCHEDULE of EVENTS Friday – 8 June 2012 Hotel Check-In - Check-in at
The Westin begins at 3:00
PM per The Westin guidelines. There is complimentary coffee in the
lobby. Convention Registration will begin at noon and
close at 8:00 PM on Friday. Registration for Marine Corps League members and guests
is $5.00 each. The registration
desk will be located
in the lobby. Hospitality Suite and Raffle Room - The Brandon-Wilbourn Detachment will host a Hospitality Suite
(Suite TBD) which
will be located on the 6th floor (Note: a key to the 6th
floor will be included in the welcome packet when you register) and will open on Friday at
noon and close at
midnight. The hospitality suite will provide snacks and
hot and cold drinks throughout the
afternoon and
evening. There is a restaurant in the hotel and there are several
restaurants within easy walking distance of
The Westin for your dining pleasure. The raffle prizes will include a
“Statute of Liberty” (Sold locally by Liberty’s Legacy) and will be displayed
in the Venice Room (located on the 1st floor of The
Westin). Note: These statues will also be for sale. The Venice
Room will be open from noon until 8:00 PM on Friday. Ladies please stop by the Venice
Room after check-in for a special gift. The winning prize
tickets will be drawn following the Banquet on Saturday night. We will
have a “silent” auction in
the Venice room that will close at
4:00 PM prior to the start of the Banquet. You must attend the Banquet
to be eligible to bid on these
items. Commandant’s
Council – There will
a Commandant’s
Council
at 7:00 PM on Friday in The Westin Board Room.
All Detachment Commandants
and all Department
Staff Officers
must be present. Commandants
must submit their “Commandant’s
Report” before the
start of this meeting. Saturday
– 9 June 2012 Breakfast - Breakfast
is available at The Westin restaurant
located in the lobby, or by ordering room service, or by eating at a nearby
restaurant. There will also be coffee and rolls in the Hospitality
Suite at 8:00 AM. Raffle Room - The Venice Room will be open from 8:00
AM until 4:00 PM on Saturday.
Department Business Meeting Opening Ceremony - The Department of Alabama Business
Meeting
Opening Ceremony will begin
sharply at 8:30
AM in the Ballroom. Welcoming remarks
will be made and a Memorial
Ceremony will be conducted.
ALL MARINES, SPOUSES, AND OTHER GUESTS ARE ENCOURAGED
TO ATTEND.
At the end of the Opening Ceremony, a short
recess will take place to
allow the invited guests to depart.
The official Business
Meeting will continue after this
short recess. Department Business Meeting - The Business Meeting will begin Saturday morning following the opening ceremony. All Marines Corps League members
should attend. The Department Commandant will set
the “Agenda Items” for the
meeting. Coffee will
be provided during
the meeting. A lunch buffet is available
in the Westin lobby for a nominal fee for those
that attend the meeting. After the conclusion of the meeting
there will be
a Devil Dog Growl.
The Devil Dog Growl will go
from approximately
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. It must be completed by 4:00 PM
to allow the Westin staff to
setup the Ballroom
for the Banquet. Ladies
Event – There
will be Canvas Painting at the Studio of Creative Arts (SOCA).

beverage for a nominal fee. The Hospitality Suite will reopen
following the Banquet and close at 1:00 AM. Banquet Room - The Banquet will be held on Saturday evening
at 6:00 PM following a brief ceremony and speech by the guest Lt. General Frank
Libutti, USMC, Retired. The raffle
tickets will be drawn and the winners of the silent auction will be displayed
outside the Venice Room
immediately after dinner. Sunday – 10 June 2012 Breakfast - Breakfast
is available in The Westin lobby for a
nominal fee. Checkout is at 12:00 PM. Hospitality Suite - The Hospitality Suite
will be open from 6:30 AM until 11:30 AM. Coffee and sweet rolls will be
