HISTORY THE MARINE CORPS LEAGUE is the organization for all Marines.It takes great pride in crediting its founding in 1923 to World War I hero,then Major General Commandant John A.Lejeune.It takes equal pride in its Federal Charter, approved by An Act of the 75th Congress of the United States of America and signed and approved by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 4,1937.The BRANDON-WILBOURN DETACHMENT #820 was chartered by the National Headquarter, Marine Corps League on Sept. 12,1992 as a authorized subordinate local organization of the Marine Corps League.OUR NAMESAKES: Pfc. Morgan M. Brandon, a rifleman, was killed in action at Iwo Jima in Feb. 1945 and Capt. The Young Marines is a offical "action' youth program of the Marine Corps League of the United States for ages 8 through 17 and focal point for the Marine Corps' Youth Drug Demand Reduction Program efforts.It's mission is to promote the mental, moral, and physical development of young American.All of its activies emphasize the importance of honesty, courage, respect, loyality, dependability, and a sense of devotion to God, country, community, and family.The Young Marines motto is "Strengthening the Lives of America's Youth"
The Marine Corps League adopted the Young Marines as a national program at the League's National Convention in Kansas City, Missouri.The offical charter was issued on October 17,, 1965. The offical charter for the Young Marines of North Alabama was issued August 15, 1996.
We are the only chartered unit in the State of Alabama, since the disbandment of Young Marines of South Alabama.They were based in Daphne, Alabama.
