Why become a host family?

Hosting an international participant is a fun and rewarding experience for the entire family! By becoming a volunteer host family, you offer your family a learning experience that cannot be duplicated by any textbook. Sharing meals, traditions, and daily conversations with a CCI participant will make you feel at home with what might once have been a completely foreign culture. Countries, languages, and cultures come to life through the experience of cultural exchange!

We provide ongoing support to all hosts and participants through a qualified network of people - ranging from the coordinator in your community to a full-time professional staff in the national office. Our network is available to you 24 hours a day to ensure that your hosting experience is the best it can be.

What does hosting involve?

Host families provide room and board (three meals per day). Participants arrive with their own medical insurance and spending money. Participants share in household responsibilities as well as leisure activities. Younger participants will often share a bedroom with a host sibling of the same sex.

Host families come from various religious, economic, and racial backgrounds. They include working parents, childless couples, single parents, and couples whose children have grown. They live in houses, apartments, suburbs, cities, villages, or on farms. Their most important contribution is providing a secure and loving home.

Who are our exchange participants?

Our exchange participants are students who come to the U.S. from countries around the world to experience the culture and everyday life of an American family just like yours. Programs are for 5 months or ten months. All participants are screened before arrival and meet the specific language, academic, and personal qualifications required for each program.

High school students from a wide range of countries want to come to study in the U.S. Each semester sees enthusiastic 15-18 year olds from a variety of countries, including the following: Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Germany, Hungary, Sweden, Spain, Italy, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Poland, Ukraine, and Russia.

Academic Year/Semester Programs:

International high school students come to the U.S. to live with host families while studying at community high schools for either an academic year or semester. Students are encouraged to participate in school-sponsored sports and activities.
