Lucy A. Minton's Confederate Application for Relief Alabama Confederate Army
Application For Relief for Mrs. Lucy A. Minton This is the State of Alabama “Application for Relief” awarded to the wives of Confederate soldiers who were killed while in the service of the Alabama Confederate Army. Thomas Allen Minton’s widow, Lucy A. Minton filed for this relief on July 4, 1887, 24 years after her husband’s death.
Thomas Allen Minton was born April 23, 1836, in Pleasant Gap, Cherokee Co., Alabama and died in 1863. When Thomas’ father, Silvanus Minton, invited Thomas to go with him to Arkansas in 1860 Thomas declined stating, “Pap, you know how I feel about being separated from you and Ma; but, me and Lucy here been talking marriage for some time now and I just can’t leave her. I was thinking someone needs to stay here and mind the farm, and all, and maybe that could be me?”
Thomas Allen Minton did stay in Alabama where he was conscripted into the Confederate Army. His body was found on the battle field at Chickamauga, Georgia in 1863. ![]() Thomas Allen Minton
