Due to the increased number of near misses and an unfortunate incident involving a very fast electric running over another boat...the time has come to modify pond use and make it safer. Ripping...back and forth, through the middle of the race course has to stop. I'm just as guilty of this as anyone and will try to NOT live up to my name. Sharing of time/space on the pond, seems the easiest way to control the free for all. The below rules may need modification and/or custom fit to each sailing adventure depending upon who shows that day and with what. We also need to be sure everyone is getting in all the sailing they came for.

I'm open to all suggestions and welcome input into the following to make this the best set of rules we can bring forth. It will be up to all of us to abide by and reinforce the rules.

Commodore Crash

(As stated on the main page here...SAFETY! SAFETY! SAFETY! Please be sure to keep things safe at all times. Be sure that your models are not a potential hazard to bystanders or anyone who may be looking at or handling them while your attention is elsewhere. Operate in a safe manner and please help us keep the pond safe for everyone.

These boats are a labor of love, some with many hours of work! Please remember that this is NOT DEMOLITION DERBY! Incidental contact with another boat is at times unavoidable; but purposeful damaging contact is unacceptable behavior.)

MMBC SAIL DAY POND RULES

1.)When races, slow or fast, are running, the race course will be clear of all non race participants. If you are not in the race and you want to run your boat at the same time...you need to go to a place outside the course (one end of the pond).

2.)Fast boat testing is done on the race course only when available and free of obstructions/boats...or testing must be done at the ends of the pond if the race course is not a viable option.

3.)Prior to using the race course for testing/racing, notification of the desire to use the course will be given to all Captains and the Captains will be given a chance to move their boats to a safe location prior to commencement of testing/racing.

4.)The time allotted to racing shall be the length of the race. The time allotted to testing shall be in increments of approximately 15 min. This will allow race course time to all boat types.

5.)All boats racing/practicing shall negotiate the race course in the same direction.

Speedboats travel clockwise.
Sail boats travel counterclockwise.

6.)Except during a practice/race, the area between the wall, and the set of buoys closest to and parallel with the wall, is declared a no speed/wake zone. This will ensure no ripping back and forth past the boats tied to the dock and give boats a chance to keep out of harms way while getting into and out of port.

7.)Aircraft will be operated in front of/or over the pond, and not behind the pond, spectators or Captains. Care will be taken to not interfere with the boats.

8.)Sailboats have the right of way over speed boats. Rescue craft have the ultimate right of way and must be given a wide berth. Boats are to give aircraft (in takeoff/landing patterns) the room needed to avoid a wreck.
