![]() "The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and elan. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we are all in it together, we might as well join red gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection, forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next." Sue Ellen Cooper, Queen Mother

| Who We are and What We Are....
Red Hatters are a bunch of silly, fun-loving women who have given themselves permission to be eccentric and outrageous in public. We love to play dress up and delight in outrageous shenanigans in our purple outfits and red hats of course. We consider ourselves Royalty, and as such adopt titles for ourselves such as Lady this and Duchess that. This adds an element of fun to aging, which we think is invaluable to women in our society who have learned to dread aging and avoid it at all costs. We want to make aging become something anticipated with excitment, not something to dread. Women who are under 50 are welcome to join us and are considered our little sisters, or "Ladies in Waiting"; they wear lavender outfits with pink hats until their REDUCATION DAY. We have Swearing-In Ceremonies where new sisters are sworn into the sisterhood and appointed their Royal titles by our Queen Mother; Reduation Ceremonies where Ladies in Waiting graduate to a Red Hat on their 50th birthday, and our giggle fests are known to last well into the evenings.
Our regalia runs the gamut of style. Wearing the designated colors is our only rule. You will see many women in feather boas, some with wreaths upon their heads, and hats made from sleighs and earmuffs to headbands with red feathers and purple flowers; but they may be seated next to another in a red sequin baseball cap wearing a Red Hat tee-shirt. Another may be wearing a "Scarlet O'Hara" type hat complete with all the Bling while another is wearing a red (or pink) cowboy hat. It's all about being young at heart, and knowing life (and fun) doesn't end at 50. Our philosophy is that since we had the most girlie-girl fun when were were little playing dress-up with our mothers hats and fancy dresses, why can't we do it again?

Our Mascot... Our Mascot, the Grande Dame Sassy, was rescued from a sale for a undisclosed ransom. Sassy travels with our Chapter members to all of our functions and spends time at each members home. Her wardrobe of hats is something to behold, to the point where she needed her own suitcase for all her travels. Sassy keeps a journal as seen through her eyes and written by our Mascot Mum.
