The Marine Corps League adopted the Young Marines as a national program at the League's National Convention in Kansas City,Missouri.The official charter was issued on October 17,1965.The official charter for the Young Marines of North Alabama was issued August 15,1996.Our unit is the only active chartered unit in the State of Alabama. WELCOME!!! This is the website of the Young Marines of North Alabama. Our home is the Marine Corps Reserve Center at 3506 South Memorial Parkway, Huntsville, Alabama 35801[Phone(256)213-9683]. The Young Marines is the official "action" youth program of the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps League of the United States and is for ages 8 through completion of high school. It is the focal point for the Marine Corps' Youth Drug Demand Reduction Program efforts. Its mission is to promote the mental, moral and physical development of young Americans. All of its activities emphasize the importance of honesty, courage, respect, loyality, dependability, and a sense of devotion to God, country, community, and family. The Young Marines motto is "Strengthening the Lives of America's Youth".

The Young Marines is a not-for- profit 501[c]3 youth education program for boys and girls. Recruits will complete an intensive course of training in citizenship, drug abuse prevention, close order drill and physical fitness. Young Marines stress academic achievement, service to others, devotion to God, country, community and family. Young Marines is open to boys and girls ages 8 through completion of high school. The only membership requirement is that the youth must be in good standing at school. For further information contact:

ELEVEN GENERAL ORDERS
1.TO TAKE charge of this post and all Young Marine property in view.

2.TO WALK my post in a military manner,keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.

3.TO REPORT all violations of orders I have been instructed to enforce.

4. TO REPEAT all calls from posts more distant from the "Guardhouse"than my own.

5.TO QUIT my post only when properly relieved.

6.TO RECEIVE, obey and pass on to the Young Marine who relieves me all orders from the Commanding Officer,Officer of the Day,and Officers and NCO's of the guard only.

7.TO TALK to no one except in the line of duty.

8.TO GIVE the alarm in case of fire or disorder.

9.TO CALL the Corporal of the Guard in case not covered by instructions.

10.TO SALUTE all Colors and Standards not cased.

11.TO BE especially watchful at night and to question all persons on or near my post and to report all personnel without proper authority.

YOUNG MARINES GENERAL ORDERS[FIREWATCH]

#1- While on firewatch I will remain awake and alert until relieved by my replacement or authorized adult.

#2- I will enforce all orders given by the adult in charge.

#3- I will report all dangerous activity immediately to the adult in charge.

#4- I will never forget that I am a Young Marine and will perform my duties to the best of my ability.

  YOUNG MARINE OBLIGATION
FROM THIS DAY FORWARD, I SINCERELY PROMISE, I WILL SET AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL OTHER YOUTH TO FOLLOW AND I SHALL NEVER DO ANYTHING THAT WOULD BRING DISGRACE OR DISHONOR UPON MY GOD, MY COUNTRY AND ITS FLAG, MY PARENTS, MYSELF OR THE YOUNG MARINES. THESE I WILL HONOR AND RESPECT IN A MANNER THAT WILL REFLECT CREDIT UPON THEM AND MYSELF.

THE YOUNG MARINES CREED

1.Obey my parents and all others in charge of me whether young or old.

2.Keep myself neat at all times without people telling me to.

3.Keep myself clean in mind by attending the church of my faith.

4.Keep my mind alert to learn in school, at home or at play.

5.Remember having self-discipline will enable me to control my body and mind in case of an emergency.
