Statement from Pastor Nickson on occasion of Mission Point's 100th Year Anniversary September, 2009And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
Jesus Christ Himself being the chief Corner Stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together
groweth unto an Holy Temple in the Lord.
Ephesians 2:20-21When we drive down Virginia Avenue and come to 52nd street, we see a brick building, and we say, "Hey, there's Mission Point!" As pastor of Mission Point, I want people to see two or three of our members in Wal-Mart, in Golden Corral, or in our workplaces and schools, and say "Hey, there's Mission Point!" because Mission Point is not this building where the congregation is gathered, Mission Point is the congregation that is gathered in this building. We are the church in 2009, and we were the church in 1909. One-hundred years ago, the foundation was laid for Mission Point Missionary Baptist Church. It was not a foundation of stone, concrete or wood, but a foundation of people. One-hundred years later, that foundation and original building stones of believers is supporting our present day Church body. As pastor of Mission Point, I want to continue to build upon the foundation that was lain so many years ago by nurturing, teaching, and leading our present congregation, and also by reaching out into our communtiy, into our city, our prisons, our streets, and our homes, changing lives so as to bring in new members, new "building material" in order that one-hundred years from now, Mission Point, the church body, will be thriving, no matter what type of building they gather in. .....loose them, and bring them unto Me. Matthew 21:2 |
