NON-SKID PATCHES

At present, adding non-skid patches to the soles of slippers is optional nationally; it is required, though, for Chapter 7 (North Carolina).

The patches are made from rubber waffle-weave rug backing material, which can be purchased in the rug department at Wal-Mart (among other places). It is very inexpensive - a 2 foot x 3 foot piece is about $3. Carefully cut the material into 1 1/2" x 3" patches, following a line of holes. Take the time to trim off the tiny edges or they will catch on your thread. Blanket-stitch or whip-stitch two of these patches to the bottom of each slipper, at the ball-of-the-foot and heel sections of the soles (as shown in photo).

It's much easier to sew on the patches before you assemble the slipper; crochet thread works better than quilting thread.

Make sure you attach a "heat warning note" to any pair of slippers you put these patches on.
