Lockeroom splits in
Springfield tournament It was mixed results yesterday for the Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team as they continued action in the 36th annual Springfield Holiday Invitational Tournament. The Lockeroom picked up their first loss in the tournament at Parkview High School as they fell 10-3 to Lee's Summit, Missouri. Anthony Gower was the losing pitcher for Mountain Home. Cannon Ewell led the offense with a two-run homerun. The result in the second game was different as the Lockeroom defeated El Dorado Springs, Missouri, by a score of 11-3 at Glendale High School. James Holder and Evan Nicholson each provided two doubles for Mountain Home. The Lockeroom's next game is scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Glendale High School. They will take on the winner of last night's game between Republic and Independence Post 21. |
Jonesboro sweeps
Hopper Termite in doubleheader It was a tough night for the Mountain Home Hopper Termite American Legion baseball team as they were swept in a doubleheader at Jonesboro. Hopper Termite fell in the first game by a score of 11-1. Cody Spencer was the losing pitcher for Mountain Home. Jonesboro won by the same margin in the second game as they topped Hopper Termite 12-2. Dakota Melton took the loss on the mound. Mountain Home will return home this afternoon as they host Harrisburg. The game is slated for three p.m. at Cooper Park. |
Lockeroom wins second
game in Springfield tourney The Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team pounded Parkview 9-1 today to capture their second win in the Springfield Holiday Tournament. The Lockeroom will face Lee's Summit tomorrow afternoon in third round play. Billy Ninemier was the winning pitcher in the game that was called after five innings. He fanned seven batters, walked five and gave up one unearned run and three hits. He also aided his own cause with two base hits. Caleb Orosz led the Lockeroom at the plate by going three for three, including a double. He batted in three runs. Gavin Hurst helped with two hits and two rbi's and Anthony Gower collected two base hits. Due to rain delays, a team spokesman said they aren't sure what time the Lockeroom will play Friday but they think the game with Lee's Summit will be about 3 p.m. |
Lockeroom wins game
that was suspended due to rain After rain delayed the conclusion of their game yesterday, the Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team resumed action against Fair Grove today and collected a 13-4 win in the first round of the Springfield Holiday Tournament. Mountain Home Coach Lester White said the Lockeroom now advances to a second round game against the winner of the Parkview versus Independence contest later today. The Lockeroom was leading Fair Grove by the game's final margin when rain halted the matchup in the fifth inning yesterday. Mountain Home needed just three outs to earn the victory today. Billy Ninemier had two hits and drove in three and Anthony Gower had two runs batted in before the game was interrupted yesterday. The tournament in Springfield is being played on four fields. All the games at two fields were rained out yesterday and about half of the games at the other two were postponed. Coach White said because of the rain delays, he's not sure what time Mountain Home will play tonight. |
Lockeroom sweeps West
Memphis The Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team went to West Memphis yesterday and won both ends of a double header. The Lockeroom won the first game 6-4. Anthony Gower was the winning pitcher, allowing seven hits and striking out three in seven innings of work. At the plate, Billy Ninemier drove in two runs and Bryant Royer had two hits and one R.B.I. In the second game, Mountain Home posted a 6-2 win over West Memphis. Royer was the winning pitcher, striking out five and allowing four hits in five innings. Zac Proctor led the offense by driving in two. The Lockeroom is now 15-7 on the season and will open play in the Springfield Holiday Tournament Wednesday afternoon against Willard. |
Lockeroom sweeps West
Plains It was a double header sweep for the Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team last night, winning both games at West Plains. The Lockeroom won the first game 12-2. Cannon Ewell was the winning pitcher, allowing three hits and striking out four in six innings of work. At the plate, Justin Hawkins belted a home run and Ewell, Zac Proctor and Anthony Gower each had two hits. Mountain Home won the second game 9-3. Bryant Royer notched the win, going three innings and allowing just one hit while striking out four. Offensively, Gower had three hits and Don Guillory add two hits. The Lockeroom is now 12-6 on the season and will travel to Blytheville Saturday. The Mountain Home Hopper Termite American Legion team will host Newport tonight. Action at Cooper Park begins at 5:00. |

Plains tonight The Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team will return to action tonight when they travel to West Plains. It's the first game for Mountain Home since their games Sunday in the Twin Lakes Classic. Moutnain Home takes a 10-6 record in tonight's action. The games begin at 6:00 tonight in West Plains. |
Bryant claims second
straight Twin Lakes Classic title There's a repeat champion of the Twin Lakes Classic. The Bryant Black Sox came from behind to defeat Pontotoc, Mississippi 12-8 last night in the championship game of the 21st annual Brooks Robinson Twin Lakes Classic to claim their second straight tournament championship. It was a wild title game. Both teams scored once in the first inning. Bryant would then plate six runs in the top of the second but Pontotoc answered with seven in the bottom of the second to take an 8-7 lead. No one would score in the next three frames but Bryant took the lead for good with two runs in the sixth inning. They put the game away with three more tallies in the seventh. Jake Jackson had a three run double for Bryant, Joey Winiecki went two for four and scored three runs and Tyler Pickett went three for four and drove in two. With the win Bryant improves to 14-2 while Pontotoc falls to 10-2. Bryant had made it to the championship game by defeating Benton 12-0 in four innings and Decatur, Alabama 3-2. Pontotoc made it to the title game by defeating Ozark, Missouri 11-3 and Mountain Home 13-5. In that semifinal game against the Lockeroom, Pontotoc scored twice in the top of the first but Mountain Home answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Bryant Royer homered and Billy Ninemier and Zac Proctor each drove in runs. Pontotoc had an answer though, scoring three runs in the second inning and then blowing the game open with two in the fourth, four in the fifth and two more in the sixth inning. Mountain Home had made it to the semifinals by beating Springfield Kickapoo 2-1 in a great pitchers duel. The Lockeroom's Anthony Gower went the distance, allowing just four hits, an unearned run, striking out ten and did not allow a walk. The Lockeroom scored both of their runs in the third inning with the big blow coming on a run scoring double by Gower. Mountain Home is now 10-6 on the season. Two Mountain Home players were named to the All-Tournament team. They were Gower and Proctor. Also named to the All-Tournament team were Daryl Otwell and Taylor Kenner from Decatur; Jake Jackson, Tyler Pickett and Tyler Sawyer from Bryant; and Lige Mitchell, Dustin Lunn and Kory Petri from Pontotoc. In individual awards, Tyler Pickett of Bryant was named the Most Valuable Player, the Offensive Player of the Tournament award went to Mitchell of Pontotoc, Brent Brownlee of Pontotoc on the Defensive Player Award, the Base Thief Award went to Joey Winieckie of Bryant, Mountain Home's Gower won the Outstanding Pitcher Award, the most individual home runs were hit by Lunn of Pontotoc, Decatur had the most team home runs, the Sportsmanship Award went to Marshfield and Nickey Browning from Pontotoc won the Outstanding Coach award. |

Classic scores, Lockeroom wins again The Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team continued to roll last night in the 21st annual Brooks Robinson Twin Lakes Classic. The Lockeroom for the third night in a row run-ruled their opponent, topping Scott County, Missouri 9-0 in five innings. Despite the nine runs, it was not a great offensive night for the Lockeroom who managed just three hits. But they were helped by eight walks, six passed balls, two wild picthes and two errors. Of the nine runs scored, only one was driven in. That was an R.B.I. single by James Holder. Mountain Home scored one run in the first inning, seven in the second and one more in the third. Billy Ninemier was the winning pitcher for Mountain Home, allowing three hits and striking out four. Mountain Home is now 9-5 on the season. In other games at Cooper Park yesterday, De Soto topped Glendale 6-0, Pontotoc got a pinch hit three run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Continental Express 7-5, Harrison beat Sylvan Hills 8-6 and Decatur, Alabama beat Jonesboro 11-3. At Twin Lakes Park, Searcy downed Conway 9-3, Bryant shutout Christian Brothers 5--0, Dunklin County was a 5-2 winner over Hillcrest and Kickapoo outscored Jackson 17-9. At Cotter yesterday, Marshfield defeated Miller 6-3, Eureka was a 6-3 winner over Little Rock Blues, Benton defeated Rogers 11-1 and St. Louis Bud beat West Plains 4-1. |
Lockeroom rolls to
another victory in T.L. Classic The second day of the 21st Annual Brooks Robinson Twin Lakes Classic American Legion Baseball Tournament was a good one for the host team. The Lockeroom cruised past Marshfield, Missouri 13-1 in a three inning game. Mountain Home blew open a tight game when the scored 11 runs in the third inning. They were aided by five errors in the frame and two walks, scoring the 11 runs on just six hits. Billy Ninemier and Zac Proctor hit back to back triples early in the innings. Proctor drove in another run in his second at bat of the inning. Mountain Home had taken a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the third. The Lockeroom scored twice in the second inning to go up 2-0 before Marshfield scored their single run in the top of the third. Every batter in the Mountain Home line up scored at least one run and seven different batters had hits. Caleb Orosz was the winning pitcher for the Lockeroom. Orosz gave up one run on three hits and struck out three. With the win, the Lockeroom improves to 7-5 on the season. In other games at Cooper Park yesterday, Searcy beat Jackson 11-1 in five innings, Kickapoo topped Conway 4-1, Bryant blasted Hillcrest 13-0 in three innings and Ozark got past Benton 11-5. At Twin Lakes Park, St. Louis Bud beat Continental Express 8-5, De Soto was an 8-6 winner over Sylvan Hills and Christian Brothers rallied to beat Dunklin County 12-11. At the Cotter field, Eureka outscored Jonesboro 15-10, Little Rock Blues topped Decatur, Alabama 7-6, Pontotoc downed West Plains 11-3 and Glendale run ruled Harrison 15-7 in six innings. At Gassville, Scott County doubled up Miller 16-8. |
