You can join the Auxiliary if you are:
- The mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, or grandmother of a current member of The American Legion.
- A female veteran who served during any of the conflicts listed below.
- A female member of The American Legion. (Yes, women veterans can join both!)
- The mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter or grandmother of a deceased veteran who served during any of the conflicts listed below.
Membership eligibility is based on service in the U.S. Armed Forces during the following periods:
| World War I | 6 April 1917 -- 11 November 1918 |
| World War II | 7 December 1941 -- 31 December 1946 |
| Korean War | 25 June 1950 -- 31 January 1955 |
| Vietnam War | 22 December 1961 -- 7 May 1975 |
| Lebanon | 24 August 1982 -- 31 July 1984 |
| Granada | 24 August 1982 -- 31 July 1984 |
| Panama | 20 December 1989 -- 31 January 1990 |
| Desert Storm | 2 August 1990 -- Open* |
*Because eligibility dates for Desert Storm are still open, all military personnel serving since August 2, 1990 (including those on active duty) are eligible to join.
