Labels & UPCs, Etc.

Please continue collecting Campbell’s product UPCs (the company wants barcodes now, not labels -- includes Swanson, Franco-American and Prego brands); Best Choice bar codes (soups, baking products, egg cartons, canned goods, pastas, rice, paper products and many other things — bar codes ONLY, please!); Box Tops for Education (found on General Mills products, including Betty Crocker & Pillsbury — please cut out ONLY the little square that says “Box Tops for Education”); and Tyson “Project A+” seals from Tyson’s breaded “ready-made” products.

We are also still collecting aluminum pop-tops from soda cans. These go to the Ronald McDonald House up in Springfield.

These items can be dropped off at the Post whenever the building is open.

We are still collecting items for our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan (see list below). These items can be brought to the Legion Hall whenever the building is open; when we have a box full, we will do one of two things with it:

  • send it to a service member with a local family connection who is deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan (Military Honor Roll). In order to do this, we need a complete, current delivery address and the number of troops in the service member's unit.

  • take it to the Cotter VFW, where volunteers pack and ship the boxes overseas (Support Our Troops). Cotter has sent over 500 boxes to Iraq so far, and will continue to do so as long as they receive donations to defray the mailing costs. If you’d like to help, please make your check payable to “Cotter VFW—Support Our Troops” and mail to PO Box 141, Cotter AR 72626.

We also try to include Pocket Flags in every care package we send out. As of January 2008, we have folded and sent 1200 Pocket Flags to troops deployed in Iraq, and have received another 300 to work on!

Folding party at the L.C. Sammons Youth Center in Mountain Home in July 2006.
The 10 kids folded about 75 flags in less than an hour!

Folding party with a local Boy Scout troop in March 2007,
where 54 flags were folded for the troops.
