"Battle of the Vets"
Blood Drive

Tuesday, October 6th, from 12 noon until 6:00 pm, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church on Dyer Street in Mountain Home. This drive hopes to increase the number of pints of blood donated, by engaging all Veterans’ groups in the area in a friendly competition.

Please remember when donating to name your favorite Vets’ group to give the credit to, as most of us are members of multiple organizations!

The winner of the competition will take custody of a “traveling trophy” until the next “Battle of the Vets” blood drive takes place.

We are still collecting items for our troops in Iraq & Afghanistan (see list below). These items can be brought to the Legion Hall whenever the building is open.

In partnership with the local Elks Lodge and our Post members, we hold a "box-up" day on the first Saturday of every month, and send the filled boxes to service members who are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan (Military Honor Roll). Many, if not most, of the recipients have a local family connection.

If you know of a soldier/sailor/airman/marine/guardsman deployed to a war zone, please share his or her mailing address with us. In order to send a goodie box, we need a complete, current delivery address and, if possible, the number of troops in the service member's unit.

We also try to include Pocket Flags in every care package we send out. As of January 2009, we have folded and sent 1800 Pocket Flags to troops deployed in Iraq, and have received another 300 to work on! (Thank you, Willie Mae!)

Folding party at the L.C. Sammons Youth Center in Mountain Home in July 2006.
The 10 kids folded about 75 flags in less than an hour!

Folding party with a local Boy Scout troop in March 2007,
where 54 flags were folded for the troops.
