Birth of A Group

The Saguaro Queens Court was born out of a Queens Tea at the Tudor Rose in the Winter of 2005. Queen Billie Cover "Grand High Lady Poohba" brought together ladies from around Tucson and Sierra Vista for our first gathering..hence the birth of a the Saguaro's Queen Court.

How It All Got Started

While visiting a friend in Tucson, Sue Ellen Cooper impulsively bought a bright red fedora at a thrift shop. A year or two later she read the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph, which depicts an older woman in purple clothing with a red hat and immediately felt a kinship with Ms. Joseph. She decided that her birthday gift to her dear friend, Linda Murphy, would be a vintage red hat and a copy of the poem. Linda got so much enjoyment out of the hat and the poem that Sue Ellen gave the same gift to another friend, then another, then another.

On April 25, 1998 Sue Ellen and 4 friends dressed in Purple outfits and went out together, having had so much fun they dubbed themselves “The Red Hat Society” … the rest is History

  Arizona Queens

The Saguaro Queens Court was established so that Queens and Vice Queens throughout Tucson and Sierra Vista could meet, have fun and share ideas for future events.

Eventually Sierra Vista, under the direction of Queen Mum Pat Mallett started their own Queens Group and have regular gatherings.

In October 2007 Queen Lady Elaine brought together 70 ladies from throughout the State of Arizona.

The Saguaro Queens Court hopes to have Quarterly gatherings throughout Tucson and the State.
