This is especially true when parents are included as partners in the educational process. Parent involvement is a powerful tool. Spread the word! Building parent involvement is one of the most important things we do. Research shows that when parents are involved in their children's education, the children are more likely to earn better grades, score higher on tests, pass their classes and attend school regularly. They are also more likely to have better social skills, show improved behavior, be more positive in their attitude toward school, complete homework assignments and graduate and continue their education. When parents get involved early in their children's education, the results are more pronounced and long lasting. (PTO Today, June 2009) PTO MEETINGS Our next PTO MEETING is on Tuesday, December 1st at 6:00 PM in the Media Center. Please join us! WHAT IS PTO? The PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) is a non-profit organization whose membership includes all parents, legal guardians and staff at Brinton Elementary School. There are no fees or dues associated with PTO membership. One of our goals is to establish a close relationship between home and school by advancing opportunity for all parents to become involved. As an organization we want to be a resource to you and by doing so hope to build a stronger and closer school community. WHAT TO EXPECT PTO meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month, except January. We meet at 6:00 p.m. in the Media Center. When you arrive we encourage you to sign in and mingle with other parents and staff members in attendance. Attending PTO meetings is a great way to meet other parents and get to know our wonderful Brinton staff members. At our meetings we refer to an agenda which is organized as follows:
PARENTS BENEFIT, TOO When parents become involved in their children's education, the parents are more likely to:
DADS MATTER As we begin the school year, we would like to extend a challenge to our wonderful Brinton Dads. We challenge our Dads to visit the school at least once a month. Some ways this could be achieved are:
There are many ways to become more involved. The bottom line is DADS MATTER! Dads are very important in their children's education and we appreciate our Brinton Dads. In both two-parent and father-only households where dads are highly involved in their schools, children are more likely to succeed academically, participate in extracurricular activities and enjoy school. Children are less likely to have to repeat a grade or be suspended or expelled when their fathers are involved in their school. (PTO Today, June 2009) VOLUNTEER SIGN-IN When volunteering for any activity at school, please check in at the office and sign in our volunteer binder. Each volunteer will have his/her own volunteer sheet (there are blank sheets in the front of the binder). The sheets in the binder are in alphabetical order. Each time you volunteer please log the date and time volunteered. This allows us to track the number of volunteer hours. We encourage parent-involvement at Brinton and appreciate our dedicated volunteers. All volunteers are invited to attend our Volunteer Appreciation Celebration at the end of the school year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

BOX TOPS CONTEST We had a BOX TOPS collection contest in October and Miss Craglow's 2nd grade class won the contest. They collected 811 BOX TOPS. As the winning class, Miss Craglow was able to order items from the Labels for Education Program. Brinton has collected 23,600 Labels for Education points and Miss Craglow was able to order some wonderful items for her classroom using those points. The following are some of the items she was able to order for her classroom: Play foam class pack, swing-n-ball hop (set of 6), stubby primary brush, 24 game-single digits, fast track learning geography card games, yoga cd and inflatable word blocks. Congratulations to Miss Craglow's 2nd grade class! Overall, 5,752 BOX TOPS were collected for Brinton Elementary. That means Brinton will receive $575.20. Keep collecting those BOX TOPS! We would like to thank our wonderful BOX TOPS coordinator, Loretta Perea. We appreciate her hard work and commitment to Brinton Elementary. POPSICLE FRIDAY Every Friday the PTO sells popsicles for 50 cents. With the exception of kindergartners, all students can purchase a popsicle during their lunch recess. Popsicle Friday will begin on August 28th. Thank you for supporting this fundraiser. FOOD CITY "FOR MY SCHOOL" PROGRAM Last year our school earned 16,075 points through the FOOD CITY Register Tapes for Education Program. This year the program is even easier. We no longer have to collect, count and mail receipts. The new program is called "For My School." Key tags will be sent home with each student. These key tags contain a special bar code that identifies our school. Every time you shop at FOOD CITY, they simply scan the key tag at the register and FOOD CITY will contribute 1% of your purchase to Brinton. We will utilize this point value to obtain educational equipment and supplies from a catalog of more than 2,000 items. There are additional key tags in the office if you would like to give one to a friend, neighbor or co-worker. Anyone can use the key tags. Remember, you will be helping our school earn free equipment and supplies just by scanning this key tag when you shop at FOOD CITY. |

2010 NATIONAL TEACHER & STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK -- May 3rd-7th
Have you thanked a teacher or staff member recently? One of the most essential roles of a great parent group is to create the magical atmosphere in which great teachers can do their magic well. This has long reaching impact and often starts with sincere appreciation. Do your teachers feel your support and appreciation? Do they feel it throughout the school year? If yes, then you are doing a great service to our entire school community. Join us in thanking our wonderful Brinton teachers and staff!
PAPA JOHN'S PIZZA FUNDRAISER We have teamed up with Papa John's to raise money for the 2009-10 school year. Each month we will have a Papa John's night. Our next night will be Thursday, November 19th. On this day Papa John's will donate 20% of the entire day's sales from anyone mentioning our school when placing an order. When you order, not only will you be feeding your family a hot and delicious meal, but you will also be helping our school raise money. Be sure to mention Brinton Elementary School and the name of your child's teacher when ordering. As an incentive for our students, the class with the most orders will receive a free pizza party from Papa John's.
