National Writers Union Monthly Open Mic

The next NWU open mic will be on Monday, December 17, 2012 at 6:15 p.m. at Fronimo's Greek Cafe in mid-town Tucson (3242 E. Speedway Blvd.). The open mic is for spoken word only, but is open to all forms of spoken word (fiction, essays, poetry, articles, polemics, etc.). Our lead readers this month will be David Ray and Judy Ray, who will read selections from an anthology they helped to edit and which was just released, "The Whirlybird Anthology of Kansas City Writers" (Whirlybird Press, 2012).

The evening will start at 5:30 or so, for those who want to have dinner; the open mic will start at 6:15.

We are a chapter (similar in structure and function to a union local) of the National Writers Union. More than half of our members live in or around Tucson with the rest living elsewhere in Arizona or western New Mexico. And please remember: if you live in Arizona and are joining the NWU (or you are renewing your membership and are currently an "at-large" member), then please indicate on the NWU membership form that you want to be in the Tucson Chapter.

Our news bulletin features announcements of coming events, information for and about local writers, and more. It is currently, however, on hiatus.

All of us in the local are volunteers; one of us will get back to you as soon as we can.

Our weekly morning breakfasts and informal discussions are held at El Molcajete Restaurant, 663 S. Plumer Ave. in Tucson, every Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. They usually last until 10:00 a.m. NOTE: There will be no breakfast on Friday, December 21, 2012.

Anybody interested in becoming a member is also invited.
