NWU READING AND OPEN MIC

The next NWU reading and open mic will be on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 6:15 p.m. at Fronimo's Greek Cafe at 3242 E Speedway Blvd in Tucson. This month the featured reader will be Shannon Cain. Shannon is the author of The Necessity of Certain Behaviors (University of Pittsburgh 2011) and is the recipient of a Pushcart Prize, the O. Henry Prize, and a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her work has appeared, or is forthcoming, in Tin House, Colorado Review, New England Review, American Short Fiction, and Southword: New Writing From Ireland.

The evening will start at 5:30 or so, for those who want to have dinner; the reading will start at 6:15.

An open mic (spoken word only) will follow the reading.

Tucson Chapter

We are a chapter (similar in structure and function to a union local) of the National Writers Union. More than half of our members live in or around Tucson with the rest living elsewhere in Arizona or western New Mexico. And please remember: if you live in Arizona and are joining the NWU (or you are renewing your membership and are currently an "at-large" member), then please indicate on the NWU membership form that you want to be in the Tucson Chapter.

NWU TUCSON NEWSWIRE

Our news bulletin features announcements of coming events, information for and about local writers, and more. It is currently, however, on hiatus.

 Contact Info

You can send us email with the form at the bottom right corner of this home page.

If you'd like to leave a voicemail message, call (520)624-4690 in Tucson. When you hear the greeting, press the number 3 key for the NWU mailbox.

All of us in the local are volunteers; one of us will get back to you as soon as we can.

Friday Morning Breakfasts

Our weekly morning breakfasts and informal discussions are held at El Molcajete Restaurant, 663 S. Plumer Ave. in Tucson, every Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. They usually last until 9:30 a.m.

Anybody interested in becoming a member is also invited.

 Steering Committee Meeting

Steering committee meetings are held on the first Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m. Please call (520) 624-4690 for information and directions.

The NWU: What It Is, What We Can Do Together

The National Writers Union (NWU) is the trade union for freelance writers of all genres who work for American publishers or employers. We are committed to improving the economic and working conditions of freelance writers through the collective strength of our 2,000 members in 17 local chapters throughout the country.

We are a modern, innovative union offering grievance resolution; industry campaigns; contract advice; insurance plans; member education; job banks; networking; social events...

For more about the NWU, visit the national website by clicking the link to the left. If you'd like a member information packet from our local, or you just have a question or comment, use the email contact form or call us at the phone number above.
