A driver who ran a red light in south Scottsdale in his pickup and killed five people when he hit a car carrying a Tempe family has been sentenced to serve a year in county jail.
Robert Logan Myers III of Chandler is due to report to jail next Monday. The 26-year-old ran a red light in July 2005 and hit a car carrying eight members of a Tempe family.
A mother and father and their 4-year-old son died. Two daughters of the car's driver were also killed.
Myers was charged with five counts of manslaughter and three counts of aggravated assault.
Court records show he pleaded guilty in February to five counts of negligent homicide under terms of a plea deal. He was sentenced on Monday.
Police reports show neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in the wreck.
