We welcome everyone

As an Outpost of The Salvation Army, we are a considered a work that is in its beginning stages. And although we have been in existence since April of 2000, we do feel as though the work has just begun.

There is much need in the White Mountains of Arizona, for the Northeastern counties of Navajo and Apache are home to part of the Navajo reservation as well as the White Mountain Apache tribe. With unemployment rates as high as 50% on the reservations and in the rest of each county rising above 11.5%, the need is great. Apache county is one of the poorest counties in the United States with Navajo trailing close behind. Navajo County is the home to part of the largest Ponderosa Pine forest in the world. Environmental laws have prohibited the lumber rich mountains from providing many of the jobs once plentiful here and the lack of much industry has caused great difficulty in the region. That, coupled with the half million acre Rodeo-Chediski fire in June 2002 that took a toll in forest acreage and destroted 463 homes, the area was devastated both economically and emotionally. Many people lost all they had and others lost their spirit to move on. We, along with many other churches, organizations and individuals have worked diligently to help folks recover in both areas.

But these challenges only serve to empower those whose power is found in the hand of God. We know that all things are possible to those who believe in God and will obey His will and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. We are called according to His purpose, so He has kept us in this place to serve others and to work with those in need.

In charge of the Outpost are David and Tina Sherman. They direct the Outpost's programs and work with staff and volunteers to make sure that all programs meet the standards set by The Salvation Army. They believe that those things that are done by The Army all work together to assist people to grow physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally.

Staff members Linda Haynes, in charge of grants, kettle coordination and fundraising and Maria Stokes, in charge of the office, works with homeless clients and oversees scheduling both believe that they make a difference in the lives of others. This is why they do what they do with a loyalty and intensity that is a joy to behold. So let's show you what we do.........
How God has used us
God has used our little Outpost in mighty ways in the past few years and we know that He's not done yet.

He has changed lives.... Through the ministry of the Outpost, many lives have been changed, first in their physical situations and then their spiritual situations. We have seen people come to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior and develop a close relationship with Him through diligent study of His Word. Our emphasis is on the whole person. (Mind, body, spirit) Our desire is to help each individual develop all of these areas through and in the sincere love of Christ.

He has planted us in a community that is a perfect fit......since the opening of the White Mountain Outpost, we have served thousands of people in social services, shared in the communities of Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, Snowflake, Heber-Overgaard and Springerville-Eagar. The impact on each of these communities by The Salvation Army is both welcome and needed. We fill a niche in the White Mountains of Arizona that was sorely needed. We participate in many community events and are recognized as those in the local communities who care about each person individually as well as the community as a whole.
