Power Pets - Ultimate Starting Guide

Whether you are a new player, or you have been on Power Pets for a while.

Take a few minutes to read through the Ultimate Starting Guide. Without it, you might be spending thousands of Power Bucks more than you really need to, or you might not even get started.

The Power Pets game and underlying economic system has been designed over time to allow an increasing level of difficulty for long time players, and an easy start for new players. But you need to know where to go and what to do.

By the end of this Guide, you will be able to make a good daily profit, and be successful on Power Pets.

If you see Edu Cat on the site, it means the section you are looking at contains actual facts. You will need this information at some point during your travels through the cities! Who knows, maybe you will learn something while you are enjoying yourself on Power Pets!

Power Pets consists of several cities. Each with their own stores, special areas and activities. When you first start out, you should carefully go through all the areas.

Your most important starting area will be North New Barkston. On the North side of this city, you will find "Padams Shack" and the "Northern Woods". Every three hours, you can visit these areas for a free item and some Power Bucks. You can sell these items, or save them for future use. The Slime found in the Northern Woods have good effects on your pet. Though if you are in need of extra Power Bucks, you can bring them to the Slime Compactor, also found on the North Side of North New Barkston.

Do NOT create more than one account.

Power Pets restrict every player to ONE account to keep the game fair for everyone.

Once in a while, you might be visited by Gekkie or Nova. They will leave you an item, or some Power Bucks to help you along. We strongly suggest that new players have a look in the Entertainment Center, and try out some of the games. Many are easy to play and you can gain up to several thousands of Power Bucks per day.

Feel free to pay these areas a quick visit, by clicking on CITIES on the left navigation bar.

We suggest you immediately return to this guide by clicking on HELP on the left, then on Ultimate Starting Guide. Next we will discuss adopting pets, navigating the site and feeding/Playing with your pets.

There are several Pounds in the Cities, and even a Shelter. Now that you know how to make a little money, you are ready to adopt a pet to care for. All of the pounds are located in a specific city. Each city is located on a specific continent.

For example, Xiang Chung-Shi is located in Asia, and will have pets most common to be found in that continent. There are dozens of cute pets to adopt, make sure you look at them all before making your selection.

Most pets are created to resemble actual animals, a few have some perks that you won't see with real pets. For example, the Grey Fox's paws have hardened and look like hooves, from running through the slime in the northern woods too much.

You can adopt one pet per month that you play, with a maximum of up to four pets. We limit you because taking care of a pet on Power Pets is harder than it is on other sites. Once you have adopted a pet, their name will appears at the top of your screen. If this name turns orange or red, you need to tend to your pet by playing with it, or giving it food. Later on in this guide, we will tell you how to go about this. In the event it has an illness, you will need to visit the veterinarian in North New Barkston.

Caring for your pet on Power Pets is not easy. Though to ensure no pets suffer, on Power Pets, your Pet will only get hungry or unhappy when you play on the site. If you have to go on vacation, your pet's condition will remain "static" until you return.

You should always have some food and toys either on-hand or in your closet for easy access. The color of your pets name will change if your pet needs attention. If the name turns red, you will be restricted from visiting certain areas of the site.

Below is a list of the least expensive foods and toys to keep your pet happy and full. You can return to this page at any time if you are in need of finding food or toys at a good price for your pet.

Foods You will require foods to keep your pet's stomach full. To "FEED" your pet, go to your ON-HAND items, CLICK on the IMAGE of the food, select USE ON (petname) from the dropdown, and click on TAKE ACTION.

Toys / Stuffies Toys and stuffies are used to keep your pet happy. You can let your pet play with these. To do this, go to your ON-HAND items, CLICK on the IMAGE of the toy or stuffy, select USE ON (petname) from the dropdown, and click on TAKE ACTION.

Medicine If your pet becomes sick, you will need to visit the Veterinarian in North New Barkston. She will give you instructions on what medication to get to cure your pet.

Puzzles Many "Quests" give out Puzzle Pieces. These are parts of Maps, which you need to bring to the Riksja driver in East New Barkston. He will take you to a special hidden area where you often find a very rare item. Every puzzle is made up of twelve parts.

Books All books are written by Citizens of the Power Pets Cities. All of these books can be placed on your Book Shelf, read and rated by you. Once in a while, the Writers Corner in the Library will open, and you can write your own book. To place a book on your bookshelf, go to your ON-HAND items, click QUICK LIST at the top. Select the book and "BOOKSHELF" from the Drop Down list, then click on SUBMIT

Armor It is important for your pet to keep up it's "wild" fighting skills. For this, there is a special Training Arena available, where they can practice against other pets. Before they can enter, they will need to have sufficient Strength and Armor. If you have an Armor item, you can apply it to your pets armor in the Armory, found in North New Barkston.

Weapons When your pet is ready to train, you will need to equip Weapons on your pet, so it can defend itself. The better the weapon, the higher it's price. You can equip weapons on your pet in the Training Arena in North New Barkston

Special Items Some items have special uses. For example, there are four types of "Tickets" you can use at the Ticket Booth in North New Barkston to gain extra Power Bucks. Special items are often obtained throughrandom events, or quests. It is often very expensive to obtain these special items from other citizens. Wait until you obtain one of your own in order not to over-invest your Power Bucks.

Collectors Items Some items on Power Pets have no other use than being Collectors Items. These items are very hard to obtain, and often extremely expensive. We suggest you stay away from collectors items until you have established yourself well into the Cities.

Strength Enhancers In order for your pet to become stronger, you feed your pet Slime. Slime is a mixture of proteins and water, found in the Northern Woods. Some items are treated with Purified Slime, which can increase your pets strength faster, or more than other items or regular slime.

Other Items Some items, mostly the ones found in the Hardware store, only have a purpose to be used in Quests or special designated areas.

Almost all items rarity 990 - 999 are sold in the Power mall or book stores in the Cities. 990 rarity items are very common, and will often be placed for sale, where items rarity 999 are rarely seen in the mall or the book shops, and are worth much more. Items with rarity 1000 are new, and will overtime receive a rarity rating between 990 and 999. (Note: Sometimes items with a 1000 rating never go down due to their popularity)

Rarities over 1000 can have several meanings. Either items of that rarity are sold in specialty stores, given out in quests or at special events.

Be careful, don't judge the value of an item on it's rarity. Many areas, including the swap barn and the Shop Pricing screen, offer direct access to the Item Pricer. You simply click on the name of the item, and a new window will pop up letting you know the retail value of the item, if available.

Now that you know all about items, you need to know how to obtain them. There are several ways to do this:

- Purchase from Power Mall or Book Shop.

- Purchase from other citizens shops.

- Through the Swap Barn.

- Through Specialty Areas: Point Taken, Nothing Rare Here or Blind Silent Auction

- Through random events, "free" areas, games or quests.

If you travel around the Cities of Power Pets you will undoubtedly stumble upon many of the areas mentioned above. Though if you are in need for an item quickly, use the SEARCH box on the left hand side.

Simply type the name, or the partial name of the item you wish to search for in, select Exact or Partial Match, select Item, and click on Search. A detail window will appear, displaying either a list of partially matched items, on which you can click, or detailing a specific item that was found. From there, you have the option to continue and search for this item in the Swap Barn, or in Citizens shops. The latter being the fastest way to obtain most items.

You probably have figured out that you won't become really rich from just the random events and games. Though you will make a substantial amount from just those, you want to concentrate on making profit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

To do this, you need to become a shop owner, and possibly try to grab some deals in the Swap Barn. Owning a shop couldn't have been easier. Simply click on the "Shop" Icon.

There is a small fee, however you should be able to afford this by now. Your initial shop can hold up to 10 items. As you grow, you can always increase the size of your shop.

To place items in your shop, go to your on-hand items, and click on Quick list. Select the items you wish to move, select your shop name on the bottom, and process the items.

Next, click the shop icon on the top and click on "Price Items" next to the correct shop. The initial screen will show all non-priced items. To find out the resale value of an item, click on the Item Name. A small window - The Price Picker - will open up, indicating the Wholesale value of the item, the lowest price you should sell it for, and the highest price you could sell it for within a reasonable amount of time.

If you want a fast moving shop, your best bet is to select a price around the average price. Once you are finished pricing, click on Update Shop.

Once a week, you should place a checkmark by [x] Reset Inventory and click Update Shop. This will recover all items that have fallen between the shelves due to rowdy customers.

Items costing over 200,000 PB, new items or hard to obtain items can often be purchased or sold in the Swap Barn in East New Barkston.

Once you're comfortable navigating around the site, finding items, and making a bit of profit, it is time you start the Quests. Quests are challenges, where someone asks you to find some items and maybe some information, and in return they reward you with an item

There are many quests on Power Pets, we are listing a few of the beginners quests. Beginners quests are fairly inexpensive, though they can be challenging, especially the first few times. Below we have listed some of the quests along with their cost.

Secret Room

$

Dark Guardian

$$

Dark Caves

$

Zookeeper

$

Gekkie's Greed

$$$$$

Grandpa Gekkie

$$$$

Quests will almost always give you an item, of which the value is around your investment, sometimes more, but rarely less.

Whenever you receive a Job Agency Card, you should take it to the Job Agency in East New Barkston. It will allow you to do a Job. Most jobs will pay out more than what you invest into them. On top of a payout, you will receive an item to turn in elsewhere and receive an extra bonus.

Some areas contain specialty shops. Hidden in North New Barkston are the Blind Silent Auctions, where you can bid on a box that contains 8 random items. If you win the bid, you receive the items. If you lose, you get your money back.

Xiang Chung-Shi has the Power Temple. Though be warned, it is reserved for advanced Elite Players. Details on how to become elite are located inside the Temple. Depending on how much time you are willing to spend, you can become elite in 4 to 12 weeks.

Kimberroo has two specialty stores. One is called "Nothing Rare Here", and contains items which can only be purchased if you figure out how to obtain a special type of coin called Kangabucks.

You can also visit Point Taken. This area is reserved for players who have spare items that they want to drop off, and in return pick up other items that they need.

Now that we have shown you the tip of the Power Pets iceberg, and after you have tried out all the different areas, it is time to start concentrating on your goals. One of your first goals should be to become Elite. Not only will it allow you access into the Power Temple where you can purchase Elite items, you will also have access to an area inside the Power Temple where you can Upgrade your account.

Your next goal should be to find all 5 stones. In the next section we will discuss where you can go to find out more details about these mystical stones. We cannot reveal yet why they are so important, but they are part of the key to regain control over BarkChem.

Other goals you should have, is to get into the Statistics in the Bureau. The Bureau of Statistics can be found in the administration building in North New Barkston.

Other areas of interest that you should definitely look at during your first days here include, but are not limited to:

North New Barkston

N.B.I.C. - Bank

Once you have some spare powerbucks, it is good to store them in the bank. They will grow interest, which is free money for you!

Armory

In order for your pet to train, you will need to give it good armor. Careful though, it can become a little expensive after a while.

East New Barkston

Ticket Booth

Whenever you find game tickets, you can take them to the Ticket Booth. Often you have a chance of winning prizes ranging in value from a few powerbucks to 250,000 PB!

Xiang Chung-Shi

Post Office

One way several citizens are getting their extra cash, is by referring people to Power Pets. Using the Post Office is the most effective way. The more your referrals play, the more bucks you will earn!

Grooming Parlor

If you can find a Fur Tonic somewhere, you can take it to the grooming parlor, where they will apply it to your pet.

Kimberroo

Kyla Kaparrot

You can find Kyla vacationing on her perch in Kimberroo. She knows many historical things about Power Pets. Pay her a visit once in a while.

In order to remain on top of your game, and keep the Power Bucks flowing, it is very important that you remain on top of what is going on around Power Pets. Once you have visited all the areas in the Cities of Power Pets, you should read up on the History of Power Pets. These free books can be read in the Library in North New Barkston. They will give you an idea of where Power Pets started, and what we are growing towards. You might also pick up some hints on how, where and why to find the Stones.

Every Saturday night, the Power Press is updated. This is our weekly paper, where Reporter Nova and Inspector Lil'roo give you the results of their investigations. They often discuss ongoing issues and new and upcoming events.

Nearly every day, important updates are posted in the Small Updates section, you can access the small updates through the Power Press.

COMPUTER HANGING OR CRASHING

You need to update some Windows files.

Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and make sure that you have the latest version of DirectX. Any version lower than DirectX 8 causes a lot of crashes with more up-to-date versions of Macromedia Flash.

If it just started happening, you might have "bad" temporary internet files. These are files stored on your computer so they won't have to get downloaded every time you view a page. If one of them goes bad, it might crash your computer every time you try to load that page.

To clear your cache files:

1. Open up your browser.

Donations to Power Pets

PAYPAL OR CHEQUE DONATIONS

If you made a donation through Paypal and it has been a week or more without it showing up in your bank account, you can make a post on the Player Problem Board and the owners can check on whether it went through.

If you made a donation through snail mail, it can take up to two weeks for the mail to reach Powerpets, depending on where you live.

Popups, slow computer

Popups, slow computer

Getting popup advertisements: PowerPets never uses popup advertisements. If you're experiencing popups as you move around the site, chances are that something was snuck onto your hard drive from another site. Downloaded software often has "piggyback" programs that you don't even know you're downloading. Some sites are set up to download this type of thing automatically without even asking you. If you don't have the appropriate security programs active on your computer, you'll never even know that it happened. These "piggybacks" reside in your hard drive and cause advertising popups whenever you're online, and just surfing the internet will trigger them.

The cure for this is to get a program such as Ad Aware that will seek out new software that's entered your computer, and allow you to remove it. To prevent this sort of thing from happening again, use a firewall and a virus scanner and don't download anything until you've thoroughly researched the software and the company who wrote it.

Ad Aware can be downloaded for free at http://www.lavasoft.de/

Spybot Search & Destroy can be downloaded for free at http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

AVG Antivirus Free Edition can be downloaded at http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Remember 1) If you are not the owner or operator of the computer, or it is your parents computer, please check with them before installing these programs.

2) Powerpets does not support or endorse these programs in any way. These links have been provided to you as a recommendation.

Troubleshooting:

Missing Items

ITEM PROBLEMS

Missing Item:

This could be due to one of the following reasons:

* you put it in your closet

* equipped it to your pet

* put it in your shop

* put it in your bookshelf

* fed it to your pet

* played with your pet and it broke

* you used it for a quest

* you put it in point taken

* you put it in the swap barn

* you sold it

* when you tried to purchase it, it was already sold to someone else or you did not have enough cash on hand to complete the purchase

If You Have Ruled Out All the Above:

* Refresh your items screen.

* Reset your closet and shops.

* Log out, clear out your Cookies and Temporary Internet Files,

and then log back in again.

* Reboot.

Red 'X's Appear Instead of Item Pictures in My Shop:

This means that you need to reset your shop. Sometimes when you have a lot of rowdy customers in your shop, some items may fall behind the shelves. This feature will recover them.

Swap Barn Items or Power Bucks Disappeared:

To collect items or Power Bucks from any accepted, rejected, or canceled swaps or offers, click 'Collect Items'.

Page Graphics didn't load properly:

Try refreshing your screen. If it's still not right, clear your Temporary Internet Pages and then try it again.

Account Questions and Problems

ACCOUNT QUESTIONS AND PROBLEMS

Changing your account information, user name, pet or mini name: You can request to have your email address changed by sending mail to support@powerpets.com, subject: "Change Email Address"

Include:

- Username

- Birthday

- Old Email

- New Email

- Mother's Maiden Name

- City of Birth

Your user name can be changed - please go to City Hall in North New Barkston. Pet names cannot be changed at this time. For other changes to your account such as your user lookup information, go to the Site Map and click on Edit My Profile or click on the Blue Smiley Face located on the top bar. Please read the Scam FAQ to find out what sort of information should never be listed in your user description. We want you to be safe and happy here.

Someone is leaving and they offered me their account: Don't take it. If your friend wants to be nice, they can donate their items to Point Taken, and their powerbucks to the shelter. It's not worth the risk of being frozen.

Logging in and getting into the wrong account: If someone else plays at Power Pets from your computer, when you try to log in, you may be taken back into their account rather than your own.

Go down this list, and try each, going on to the next if the last one didn't fix it:

1. Make sure they've logged out before you log in.

2. Refresh your screen.

3. Clean out your Temporary Internet Pages.

4. Clean out your cookies.

5. Log out and log back in again.

6. Restart your computer.

Multiple Accounts:

Multiple Accounts is when someone owns or plays through more than one account, or when one account is used to build up another account. Whether one person owns all accounts involved or not, this is considered cheating, and they will be frozen. Players are allowed only one account. If a player is found to have more than that, all of them will be frozen.

Shared Computers:

If you know that someone else logs in from the same computer as yourself, simply avoid swapping with each other. Do not give each other things such as items or Powerbucks, and there will be no reason for us to suspect that you are trying to cheat by using Multiple Accounts. For more information on what you can do to avoid suspicion, read the Swap Barn FAQ.

Letting Someone Else Have Access to Your Account: Account Sharing is not permitted on PowerPets, even temporarily while you are away for a day or two. Each player must have their own separate account. If you ask someone to do something on your account for you and something goes wrong, the staff is under no obligation to fix whatever happened while it was being used illegally.
