About Our Organization

To explain how rare adenoid cystic carcinoma (“ACC”) is, out of approximately 2.5 million new cases of cancer diagnosed in 2007 in the U.S., only about 600 of those people were diagnosed with ACC.

After being diagnosed with ACC, Prudence Jackson found that people with ACC could find very little information about it or about treatment.  Many doctors are not familiar with it because it is so rare.  A patient with ACC may be misdiagnosed for years.

Because ACC is rare, the larger cancer nonprofits do not fund research for ACC.

In 2003, thanks to the tireless efforts of Mr. K. Michael Garrett at the law firm Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, Prudence was able to form the nonprofit Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Organization International (“ACCOI”) in order to provide help to those suffering from ACC and to get and continue much needed ACC research.
