Learn a Bit More MEETING ROLES: Toastmaster: The Toastmaster is the master of ceremonies for the meeting and is in charge of the program. The Toastmaster contacts the speakers in advance and gets their speech titles, manual lessons, and times. PledgeMaster: This member leads the Pledge of Allegiance and gives a Thought for the Day. JokeMaster: This member presents a joke for the day. Speakers: These members each present a prepared manual speech. The speeches may be on any topic, and focus on the objectives of the particular manual lesson. They also prepare their own introductions, which are read by the Toastmaster. Table Topics Master: This member presents the Table Topics (impromptu speaking) session. He/she asks questions of members, who may take one to two minutes to respond. Questions typically follow the declared theme for the meeting. Evaluators: These members each evaluate one of the speakers according to the lesson "objectives" for his/her speech. Each evaluator also evaluates any props or handouts used. Each valuation may take two to three minutes. General Evaluator: This member evaluates the meeting as a whole, and in particular, the speech evaluators. The GE also notes if the meeting started and ended on time and introduces the other members of the evaluation team (Grammarian, Timer, Ah Counter, Vote Counter). Grammarian: This member announces and listens for uses of the Word of the Day, as well as both good and poor uses of English grammar. Timer: This member is responsible for timing all speeches (usually 5-7 minutes each), Table Topics (1-2 min each), and Evaluations (2-3 min each). The timer also operates our timing lights to aid whoever is speaking. Ah Counter: This member counts all vocalizations (ahs, ums, ers, etc.), as well as other filler words and reports on them. This is a useful "consciousness raising" exercise for all members, including the Ah Counter. Vote Counter: This member counts all votes and reports on them.
OFFICER DUTIES: President: This member serves as the chief executive officer of the club. Vice President of Education: This member plans and schedules the educational program of the club. Vice President of Membership: This member heads member recruitment and retention functions of the club. Vice President of Public Relations: This member heads the club's marketing and advertising functions of the club. Treasurer: This member plans and tracks the club's budget and all income and expenditures. Secretary: This member records meeting minutes and handles club correspondence.
