Who we are
The Autism Project PTA is a non-profit organization that exists to support the autism community of Santa Clara County. We have been in existence for over seven years. We are governed by the National PTA. Which is the oldest and largest volunteer association, working exclusively on behalf of all children and youth. We are incorporated under Section 501(c)(3) and funded by parents and some local donors. We serve 52 classroom of children with autism and over 400 families within Santa Clara County.

About Autism

Autism is a neurological disorder that affects how the brain functions. It typically appears during the first three years of life. Autism interferes with the normal development of the brain in areas that control verbal and non-verbal communication, reasoning ability, imagination, sensory development and social interaction. There are several diversities in autism that range from slight to severe, which is why it is referred to as a "spectrum disorder". Autism has become the fastest growing developmental disorder in California. There is no cure and still no known cause for this complex disorder.
