Hello Neighbor,

I am Jacqueline Bates, candidate for San Jose City Council, District 4. Born and raised in San Jose, I am a product of this community; I attended school in the Berryessa School District. I am a graduate of both Independence High School and San Jose State University.

As a witness to the transformation of San Jose through the years, I appreciate how the area has developed both economically and culturally. Our population has more than doubled in size, from a valley filled with orchards, to the capital of Silicon Valley.

As a thirty-five year resident of District 4 and actively being involved in community and city government, I feel that it is now time for me to give back to my community. My experience and current membership in other affiliations, gives me the strong foundation needed to represent the people I shall proudly serve as City Council Member.

I promise to be a voice for the district, and respect the diversity of all cultures within; bringing forth leadership and community involvement in the 10th largest city in the nation.

When elected I will work with you, the Citizens of my district, to make improvements in our community and address the issues that mean the most to you and to me. Amongst which are the following:

    Smart Growth and Planning
    Transportation and Traffic
    Business Development and Housing

Thank you for your time,

Jacqueline

I am actively involved in the community through the following affiliations:
  • Japan Town Business Association Board Member
  • San Jose City Corporation Yard Redevelopment Committee Member
  • Santa Clara County MLK Board Member
  • ESL Tutor-Sacred Heart Volunteer
  • Santa Clara County Low-Housing Committee Member
  • Motivational Speaker
  • NAACP Member
  • Rainbow Coalition Member
San Jose is a great city. Working together, we can make it even better.

Our city has experienced some disorderly business conduct in the recent years.

As your Council Member, my priority will be to pursue the vision of open government, restore integrity, regain stewardship and recover accountability.

My belief is that a good Council Member listens to her constituents and evaluates their concerns and enacts programs and policies that will benefit the community.

As your Council Member, I will vigorously support education, protect the environment, pursue social and economic justice, honor diversity, and consistently work to meet the needs of our children, workers, seniors and those persons with special needs.

MY VISION FOR DISTRICT 4

North San Jose Vision 2030 We must implement smart growth and planning so that the quality of life will not be disrupted.

Traffic and Transportation Traffic is a result of growth and development. We must develop a plan that will expand our streets and highways simultaneously with the development, as well as bringing BART to the South Bay.

Business Development We need more good paying jobs, so we must attract new businesses to San Jose.
Housing Working together we can find a way to develop more affordable housing.

Public Safety Work to establish and maintain a program that effectively deals with speeding cars in our neighborhoods.

As a Council Member, I will oppose development of our hillsides and open space. I will support adding parks and more community activities for our children.
