Pratt & Whitney R-1340-AN1 engine for the SNJ-4 #6411D being rebuilt by Joe Peppito and his crew. Note the P&W logo and the official nameplate. (11-24-05).

Here's a letter from Joe Peppito:

"The Eagle has landed at Camarillo and delivered a newly-overhauled P&W R-1340-AN1 engine for the SNJ-4. Thanks to the financial support of a lot of dedicated Wing members who helped buy the engine from Chester Roberts Supply in Culterville, Texas. Col. Jack Rogers took care of all the arrangements for the purchase of the engine. We traded the old R-1340 and an R-985 engine in for a core replacement. The engine is now setting on an old engine mount in the Restoration Hangar awaiting new engine mounts so that we can mount the engine on the airplane. This should take place in the very near future. I want to thank all the people that supported me in obtaining the new engine. You have helped bring our SNJ-4 #N6411D that much closer to flying status! Thanks again!"

Signed: Col. Joe Peppito
Crew Chief, SNJ-4 #N6411D

Cols. Bedding, Goubitz and Sica, plus anthropologist Wayland working on the SNJ-4's spar. It is critical to the integrity of the airplane to have a spar which is devoid of corrosion. This is one of the main concerns of the team - the possible replacement of part of the spar with new parts.
