Specs Manufacturer: North American Number Built: 15,495 Number Still Flying: 350+ Background This type of aircraft was used to train over 100,000 Army and Navy pilots in WWII and was operated by 34 air arms worldwide between 1941-1956. Over 15,000 were built. Today, a little over 350 remain in airworthy condition. As of 1940, the required flight hours for combat pilots earning their wings had been cut to just 200 during a shortened training period of seven months. Of those hours, 75 wrere logged in the AT-6/SNJ-4/SNJ-5/SNJ-6/T-6. Even though the US stopped using them at the end of the 1950s, it continued to be a stable basic trainer for many nations around the world, well into the 1970s. Texan N6411D Built: July 1941
