Our inaugural get-together took place on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at Temple Beth Tikvah.

There were 20 women adorned in red and pink hats and of course purple or lavendar outfits.

We decided that our future get-togethers will take place monthly, on the third Thursday of each month (unless we have a special event).

THE RED HAT SOCIETY STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with humor and élan. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, and since we all are in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Underneath the frivolity, we share a bond of affection; forged by common life experiences and a genuine enthusiasm for wherever life takes us next.

REGALIA

Red Hats (50+) Wear red hats and purple outfits. Pink Hats (49-19) Wear pink hats and lavender outfits. Wear your colors PROUDLY!! You need to wear a hat, cap, or a big bow, or flower on your head, in your color.

November 8 Let's take the Amtrak train to Santa Barbara for a day of fun in the sun.

Shopping and food will fill the day!

JILL'S CRUNCHY COLE SLAW RECIPE
Queen Jill (Quilt Goddess) made this wonderful cole slaw for our get-together in May. Everyone really enjoyed it!

Mix together:
1# bag cole slaw mix (can use shredded fresh cabbage instead)
1/2 cup chopped red pepper
1/2 cup very diced green onion (scallion)

Mix together:
1/2 c. vinegar
1/2 c. oil
1/4 c. sugar (I used Splenda)

In a separate bowl mix:
2 (3oz) packages Top Ramen Chicken Noodle Soup, crumbled
Ramen seasoning packets
Small bag sliced almonds
Small bag sunflower seeds

Just before serving (optional):
Add crunchy mixture to slaw mix. Toss with oil mixture and serve immediately to keep salad crunchy.

Changes I made to recipe:
I mixed everything so it wasn't too crunchy. Bad experience with overly crunchy food cutting the roof of my mouth. Not very pleasant. I made this dish 90 minutes prior to coming to the luncheon.

Can add cut up chicken also to make it a meat dish, or keep it parve by leaving out the chicken.
