Welcome to our Website

My name is Jerry Speraw. I am the current Chair of the Men in Child Care Committee.

In the coming weeks, this website will be adding new content as we begin to explore issues regarding men in child care and as we recruit CAEYC members to also become involved as members of our committee. Priority Poll Results
Our collective thanks to the 25 committee members who participated in the priority polls, which closed on October 31st, to find out what the top priorities for the committee should be for 2007.

First priority votes for each response were given a value of 5, while second and third priority votes were given values of 3 and 1, respectively, to establish rankings. The results follow in order of importance (computations can be viewed by selecting this link):

  1. Develop public policy statement regarding Men in Child Care for CAEYC Board to endorse and publicize.
  2. Fundraise and establish MiCC grants/awards/incentives for new/continuing male ECE students and/or Conference attendees.
  3. Establish an elected MiCC Representative position with voting privileges on CAEYC Governing Board.
  4. Increase CAEYC Conference Workshop Offerings and/or establish annual MiCC pre-CAEYC Conference session.
  5. Expand MiCC Committee membership and provide recognition to individual MiCC advocates.
  6. Enlist public media (e.g., PBS & NPR stations) to research and inform about MiCC issues.
  7. Create and publicize a MiCC Speaker's Bureau.
  8. Conduct ECE careers outreach program at high schools with a student public service requirement using NAEYC MiCC brochures.
  9. Develop website-based MiCC Resource & Referral Library to be prominently and permanently referenced in Connections/eConnections.
  10. Require elected MiCC Representative position with voting privileges on each Affiliate Board.

PROPOSED MISSION STATEMENT

Please comment on the proposed mission statement below by sending an email.

Revised 2/3/06 with contributions and inspiration from Regina White, Louis Torelli, and Gregory Uba

For purposes of comparison, the NAEYC web page relating to the Men in Educaton Network Community, which can be accessed through the NAEYC Communities link, states:

The mission of the Men in Education Community is to recruit and retain men in early childhood education by (1) communicating the importance of men working with young children and their contributions to the healthy development of children, (2) emphasizing the need for concerted efforts to recruit more men into the field, and (3) encouraging and supporting men already in the field to remain in the profession.

PROPOSED VISION STATEMENT

Please comment on the vision statement below proposed by Tom Kaut by sending an email.
