LADYBUG LINDA WISHES SHE HAD BEEN THERE!
I wasn't just playing hooky...HONEST!

This photo was November
2004, when our chapter went to Lakeport English Inn.
Here we are on the front porch.

Our original Vice Mother Georgia
is 2nd from right, and I am on the far left! As you can see,
none of the original members in this photo are still members.
How quickly life changes!

Nov. 2004 High Tea at the
Lakeport English Inn.
Pictured left to right are
myself, and Pat Reed and Marcia, who are the only
charter members still in our group.

How elegantly served....
Just like royalty!

THE HIGH TEA CHAPTER EVENT
on May 10th
was enjoyed by 10 chapter members and
one guest (Kathy).
Those attending were Lady Sinthia, Lady Godida, Lady Want-A-Lot, Lady Divine Bovine, Lady Glorious, Lady Happy Harbin, Lady So-Not-Plain Jane, Lady Brit, and our bubbly Vice Mother, Lady Vibrations (Janet).
It was reported to me that the little sandwiches were yummy, and they got the grand tour of the Victorian rooms at this vintage location they call Lakeport English Inn, which is also a Bed & Breakfast Inn.
Heidi did the selection and planning of this event, and initated a 50/50 raffle which gained $23 for a deposit to our chapter checking account, and the other half going to the winner, who was Kathy, a guest.
THANK YOU SO MUCH, HEIDI! The girls loved it, and your Mother's Day corsages were so beautiful. They even brought me one! I am going to put it on my hat.
There were also raffle prizes, won by one and all (except unlucky Lady Vibrations).
Thank you so much, dear Janet, for taking over for me at this event, since I am ill right now. I'll be joining you all soon! Just you wait and see! I miss you all! QUEEN SHADY LADYBUG LINDA

FIFTIES SOCK HOP on April 22nd.........
A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

IT WAS A BLAST,
BUT I'M GLAD IT'S OVER!!!

TO READ THE POEM I WROTE ABOUT THE DANCE EVENT
look to your left and CLICK on "POEMS BY ME"....

April 24, 2006
HI EVERYONE,
The female winner of BEST FIFTIES COSTUME was Lady Suzie Snapshot
(Suzanne O'Loughlin) in her red poodle skirt she made herself!
That gal has energy that never poops out!
She and her main squeeze, Don, danced and danced!
Her prize was an I LOVE LUCY board game.

The male winner of BEST FIFTIES COSTUME was a tie
between Bill Jensen and the DJ's son, Joe Carnes.
They had to "draw straws" to determine
who got the prize of an electric chocolate fondue pot.
Joe got the winning straw and won the fondue pot,
but I found it after the dance out in the parking lot.
He and a 42 year old single gal took a
long stroll in the moonlight and she made
him forget the prize. I guess SHE was his prize!
Ha ha ha!

In recouping all the monies, the income and debits,
I figured we broke even pretty much.
I am going to have Vice Mother Janet King go over all the figures also,
so that the two of us can swear to it on a stack of Bibles together.

The way I have figured, we'll have $177
left in our checking account, however, Ruth Maples
donated $100 and she told us to keep it for next year's dance fund.

Lady Ruthless also helped by manning
the bar most of the evening, assisting people to find
the sodas and mixes they needed.

I donated $100 also, but it was my little folly
or half baked idea, so I dont mind at all. My God,
I'm lucky I pulled it off, thanks to all your help!

It was not meant to be a FUNDRAISER anyway,
it was meant to be a FUN-RAISER, and it was!! Or, you might say, a bunch of old
RAISINS doing a little Hell-raising.

Of course, there were lots of other donations, food, prizes, labor of
love, etc., etc.
I just want to be fair to all about this. Lots of ladies
worked really hard, and we were a GREAT
team, working together. No problems!

We pre-sold a lot of tickets and also had some
"walk ins" and we gained some money in raffles too!
Our new member, Linda Jensen,
the dance instructor, brought 3 tables full of her students
who joined us in the fun.

I'll be putting our financial report
in the May Newsletter.

The grand prize, a $65 gift certificate
from Chez Char's Salon, was won by a man from out
of town when he won the NAME THAT TUNE contest. He gave
the certificate back to Janet King, saying he would never
use it, and she returned it to Char. Char gave it to
a friend of hers, Ken, Wendy's husband,
because he donated the time and materials to
build our JAIL HOUSE cell for the Jailhouse Rock
dance props. Anyway, it was hers to give
to whoever she wanted to, and so she did.

My husband Stew took a video of all of the performances,
but the battery died when I was singing my
HOW MANY FROGS song with Joan Moss.
Otherwise, we have a GREAT video, although I wish there
had been more video of the dancing going on.

Giovanna has 4 cans of chili beans left that were
not opened. We had LOTS of birthday cake
left, and I have frozen a big part of it, so we will
all have some together at a later date.

Someone left a lovely red cape at the Masonic Lodge,
and I retrieved it, so I wonder WHO IS THE OWNER OF IT?

We had some difficulty before 6pm
with electric sockets blowing out, and there was a padlock
on the breaker switches, so we couldnt
get in.

The person in charge, Richard Gorman,
was out of town. What to do???? No plugs worked
for the food warming. No plugs worked
for the DJ's music set up.
It was LUCK that the DJ brought his
professional electrician son, Joe, with him.
He was able to do some rewiring of the plugs
and get all of it going again! Whew!

The cleaning crew, Carol's Cleaning Service, gave us
a good break on the cleaning. She
charged only $60,
since all of the ladies helped so much on Sunday afternoon pre-cleaning.
She didn't have to do much work getting it back in shape.
All the garbage was outside, and all in order.
So, just vacuuming, mopping and a little
toilet/sink cleanup did it. Hey, if I
had'nt been so worn out, I would have cleaned it myself!
I was feeling so LAZY.

I will be writing a storyline of how much fun the event was, for the newspaper,
along with some photos, if they will accept them!
Our Lady Suzie Snapshot had her camera
in motion, and so did Lady Jane, and lots
of others.
People are already looking forward to
next year's event! I think we will
have it at the Elks Lodge next year though, as it will be
a lot less work. They will cook and serve the food buffet
and they will have the booze bar to sell drinks.
It will be a lot EASIER on everyone. Buy a ticket, and enjoy.....no work!
Unless you are a performer, that is.

Everyone, get your act together for next year,
and start practicing.
There are some ladies that went beyond the call
of duty, working so hard! You know who
you are, and so do I.
Truthfully, MOST of the ladies were just SUPER
as far as helping.

It was so fun and I believe everyone truly had
a great blast from the past!

Sincerely,
Your Queen, Linda Stewart

HERE IS THE NEWS RELEASE
I am hoping the newspaper will print
along with a SOCK HOP photo........
NEWS RELEASE - FIFTIES SOCK HOP……. APRIL’S NIFTIES SHOCK HOP A NOSTALGIC TRIP TO THE FIFTIES Actually, it was the
FIRST ANNUAL NIFTY FIFTIES SOCK HOP, hosted and promoted
by one of the 18 Red Hat Society chapters in Lake County on April 22.

The chapter called Clear Lake Minnow-Pausers in the city of Clearlake, has a membership of 30 ladies from 51 to 89, formed by their Queen Mum (Queen Shady Ladybug) Linda Stewart in 2004.

Along with the help of her Vice Mother, Janet King (Lady Vibrations), and the hands on help of all the members, the sock hop dance was a wonderful, feel-good event.

The evening began with The Singing DJ, Gary Carnes, spinning discs and singing all the favorite tunes from the fabulous fifties.

For all of us who grew up in the 1950’s,
the All American food buffet was a familiar menu
of chili dogs, lots of chips and snacks, Mom’s homemade potato and macaroni salads with a sprinkling of our favorite cheese back then (Velveeta of course).

All tables were filled at The Masonic Lodge hall that night, including the dance teachers, Daddy-O Bill and his wife Lady Swinger (Linda Jensen) with their crew of Serenity Place Swing dancers, who taught the attendees some new Swing Dance steps.

Bill Jensen was voted male Best Dressed 50’s costume
by rounds of applause, and Lady Suzie Snapshot (Suzanne O’Loughlin)
of Clearlake won Best Dressed female, in her homemade red poodle skirt.

An out of town winner snagged first prize in the Name That Tune contest, winning a gift certificate from Chez Char Salon in Clearlake for a complimentary massage, facial or haircut, and Char won a second prize of white fur dice for her rear view mirror.

Elvis posters and classic car posters and a classic Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel poster decorated the room, along with many beautiful red hats that were taken off that night. The gals let their hair down and put it up into pony tails instead of hats.

Poems from the old Burma Shave signs that used
to be on Route 66 for travelers were posted abundantly
throughout the area. “The wolf is shaved so neat and trim, Red Riding Hood is chasing him”….Burma Shave.

The Flying Purple People Eater, created by Sheb Wooley, danced in full costume playing Rock and Roll music through the horn in her head. Red Hatter Wendy Dalton was the mystery performer of that one.

The Jailhouse Rock Dancers, four red hatters, performed a dance skit to the famous Jailhouse Rock by Elvis and local singer/songwriter, Joan Moss, delighted everyone with her performance of her original song, Prelude II, which compares a vibrator to a man, and the man comes out the loser.

“How Many Frogs?” must a poor girl kiss…written by Queen Shady Ladybug was performed as a duet with Joan Moss, and ended with the frog prince bowing at her knee for a kiss. Sexy Sara from Carolina (former owner of the Paw Wash in Clearlake) crooned a favorite old fifties tear jerker, “Since I Fell For You”, with standing ovations.

Not to be outdone, the Kazoo Khorus, comprised of 11 red hatters, performed a round of Row Row Your Boat with their kazoos, the official musical instrument of the Red Hat Society.

The DJ kept the crowd rocking all evening as they danced The Bunny Hop, The Hokey Pokey, The Swing, The Birdie, The Stroll and The Chicken dance. There was one mystery at cleanup time! We’ve all heard of dancing your socks off, but the mystery was someone had evidently danced their senior Depends diapers off in the middle of the dance floor! Did they laugh so hard they wet their pants and left them behind? (Later, it was determined that it was the DJ’s Pomeranian dog that lost the diaper there).

There were two huge Red Hat Society birthday cakes, deliciously prepared by Toni’s Bakery in Clearlake, to celebrate the 8th anniversary of the now worldwide organization, which is officially April 25, 1998.

Without the help of the hardworking red hatters to pull this together, we all would have been stuck in the present, instead of stuck in the fifies that night. Special thanks go to the many ladies who brought their delicious homemade salads and snacks, and who worked setting up and cleaning up, and decorating.

Next year, there is a dance contest planned and a hula hoop contest, along with a surprise visit from comedienne Couch Potato Patsy.

……..AND REMEMBER….. “A beard that’s rough and overgrown, is better than a chaperone”, according to Burma Shave, and “When super-shaved, remember Pard, You’ll get slapped, But not as hard”…….

Hey, next year, the DUKE OF EARL might even show up and Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife has been invited to be our security guard. Aunt Bea from Mayberry can bring some of her famous fried chicken.

. Put your pedal to the metal, agitate the gravel, but be sure to get there next year for the second annual dance.

NOTES TO MYSELF!
FRIDAY, April 21, 2006
PREP FOR THE DANCE....

The 4 dancers met at 9am for practice at the lodge (Char, Janet, Alice & me).
Everything went well but we sure worked our butts off! Jane offered to go pick up burgers at McDonalds for us workers at lunch time., so we all ordered a Kiddie Meal, and saved our toys for the grandchildren.
Char and I were the die hards, and were there until after 4pm. Man, is she a worker and a good decorator. Honestly, I would have left earlier, but she worked, so I worked and blew more balloons and hung them.

Those who showed up to help were Char, Janet, Alice, Ida, Gloria, Heidi, Jane, Lynne (9 of us counting me).
It looks great! Wendy's husband, Ken, also showed up and put
together our mock jail for the Jailhouse Rock dance
routine. I've got my 200 weines and buns, and just have the soda pop, drink mixes and ice to get tomorrow.

I need to phone the head guy, Richard Gorman, who rented us the Masonic Lodge and ask him where the supplies are for the bathroom;
soap, toilet paper, paper towels, toilet seat covers.....
these are all dangerously low or out of already. I checked the freezer supply room, and all around... NO SOAP or toilet paper.
YIKES! He says, buy them and I will reimburse you if there are not any.

Actually, it was a false alarm! When I rechecked after Char had checked and said there were no supplies, I found plenty in the men's room, and we are all set on that one!

THE MONTHLY BREAKFAST AT MAIN STREET CAFE WAS APRIL 18th...At least 20 ladies showed up and we made our last plans for the April 22 FIFTIES SOCK HOP!

APRIL 12, WEDNESDAY - NOON – PARK STUDY CLUB LUNCHEON,
at their clubhouse, Arrowhead Rd. at Santa Clara Street.

As reported by member Lady Double D (Lynne), there was a buffet salad bar and dessert all for $6.00, which included potato, macaroni, cabbage wtih apple and beets, a corn salad with onion, cheese, mashed corn ships; a broccoli salad, tossed green salad, carrot salad, spinach leaves, deviled eggs, olives, pickles, and marinated artichoke hearts. A couple of salads I couldn't name but ate and were they GREAT!! And, I can't tell you the last time I was served coffee or tea in cup AND SAUCER!!! I felt like a LADY!!!!!

On the down side, the so-called dessert bar did NOT include any chocolate! There were various types of Jello type desserts though.
There were 16 Red Hatters and we got a little business done re: the dance.
Janet collected some money from members that are not going to the dance but paying to show support for it. Also got some commitments for food. It was lots of fun and I'm sure everybody had a good time.

APRIL 4, TUESDAY – 10 am Kazoo Kontest practice
at the Queen’s house.

There 10 of us practicing our Kazoo song, doing a round of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat". Lady Suzanne (Polly Wanna Cracker) volunteered to be our conductor, since she admitted she is tone deaf as far as staying on key.
We split it up into groups of 3, singing the song 3 times, and she said it sounded pretty good!
At noon, we had Jailhouse Rock dance practice, and Giovanna opened up the Masonic Lodge for us to practice in our tap shoes on their floor instead of scarring up mine!
Alice, Janet, Char and I danced the routine over and over and over again trying to get the timing right and the step in Sync. Poor Char ended up slipping in her tap shoes and fell on her tailbone on that hard tile floor! Decided we'd better ditch the taps or put bandaids over them so it won't be so slippery.

OUR ST. HATRICK'S DAY event
was planned by our classy LADY SUZIE SNAPSHOT! ....

An Irish lunch of corned beef & cabbage!

MARCH 22, WEDNESDAY - The ST. PATRICK'S DAY
luncheon celebration was a raging success, thanks to Suzanne and her helper,
Lady So Not Plain Jane, and also Lady Ruthless who brought the beautiful bouquets
of daffodils for the tables.

Kudos to our event planners!!

The food prepared by the Elks Lodge crew was
delicious and served on an elegantly decorated table with
fabric tablecloths and napkins. I truly felt like ROYALTY!

First they served a gorgeous salad
of baby greens and warm rolls; then a lovely
entree of corned beef & cabbage with baby carrots.
Cocktails and wine were available
at the bar and dessert was furnished by
our ladies, which was a delicious white cake with
green sprinkles on the frosting and strawberry ice cream.

The tables had green glitter and chocolate mint
candies in the center. I enjoyed
the lunch immensely, and loved the
entertainment of the Vaudeville dancers
who performed for us, called THE ANGEL LIGHTS.
Their costumes were so beautiful, and they
all did a lip sync performance to the lyrics.
I was told they peform at no charge for many of the rest
homes and seniors in our county, and just enjoy doing it!

We had a new potential member today, who
I gave an application to, namely Wendy Johnson, who won
the prize for the best decorated St. Pat's Day hat.....
Lady Happy Harbin received the 2nd prize, and there was also
a raffle drawing prize given.

What A GREAT CELEBRATION!
I am so very, very pleased!

Those who attended were, Giovanna, Ruth, Suzanne O. Elsey, Wendy D., Alice, Janet, Char, Mary P.,
Vi, Jane, guest Wendy J., Ida, Cynthia, and of course ME!

MARCH 7 BREAKFAST AT MAIN STREET CAFE!

DAMN, I WISH I HAD BEEN THERE!!!!!!!!!(Anywhere but court, where I was!) I really, really wanted to see everyone's photos when they were teens...Which is just WHY I thought up the game!!
Lady Vibrations (Our Vice Queen Janet) kindly took over for me, handling our busy agenda for the upcoming Red Hat Sock Hop. Thanks so much, Janet! You're a gem, and I appreciate it so much!

Lady Double D (Lynn) did report to me so here is her email she sent to me.

Breakfast was spectacular!! Almost thirty ladies!!!Heidi and Jane
tied for the "GUESS
WHO THE TEENAGER IS" contest and I suggested
they pick the number 1 or 2 for a tiebreaker.
Heidi picked the number 1 so she got the prize,
which was a purple hat.

Did anyone guess my teen photo?
Linda Stewart in 1960.

Here's one of me, from the
rear. I thought I was Marilyn Monroe....

This is my sister, on the left
and her friend Joan, in the early 60's.
Nice hairdo, huh?
...and doesn't my sis look like
Carol Burnett?

We sold a bunch of Kazoos, at $1.00
each but Practice for the upcoming KAZOO KONTEST
wasn't so hot. Ladies loved using them
but the song is going to need to 'narrated' and
LOTS MORE PRACTICE!!!!

(Linda has a CD of the song,
instrumental karaoke version that we can kazoo
along with when we perform)

Lady Ruthless brought the new Name tag buttons
and only a couple (probably Judy, Babe and Pat)
didn't pick theirs up. Great! I didn't get mine
either, of course. Did everyone like the way
they turned out?

We talked about the dance and
got all the people for the decorations and two
for the food. There was some discussion about
not having 'dinner' just appetizers/finger foods.

I feel strongly that we need
at least a ream or two of EVENT FLYERS to be distributed
around the lake, two weeks and one week
before the dance.

NICE REPORT, LADY DOUBLE D, AND THANK YOU,
FROM QUEEN SHADY LADYBUG. Yes, we've
got much to do between now and April 22.

We will get the keys to the Masonic Lodge
4/21 Friday and start decorating, so we'll have
perhaps two crews (Fri. and Sat.) to accomplish
that.

IT'S GONNA BE A BLAST FROM
THE PAST FUN EVENING!

FEBRUARY 24th, FRIDAY,we went to KONOCTI BLUES CAFE.........an event planned for us by Lady Happy Harbin,

THIS EVENT WAS JUST FABULOUS, in my humble opinion!

The food was gourmet good (I had lamb, rice, asparagus, and a great baby
lettuce salad)..... my husband had the coconut shrimp and it was $18 each!)
Nice menu there, and elegant table settings. The jazz/blues trio
music was wonderful...... black musicians with
a lot of rhythm that got everyone up dancing. Andre Williams was
the singer, and did some Marvin Gaye tunes, among others.

WHAT A GREAT JAZZ BAND!

We had a swinging time and Char furnished dessert for our crowd of 16.....
a big delicious carrot cake she got from
Tony's bakery in Clearlake.

Our ladies that attended were Wendy, Char,
Mary P., Vi, Suzanne, Alice,
and Janet. Also, there were Nancy,
Tony, Ken, Bruce, two fellas
from Harbin, Barbara, and
one other lady guest,
and me and Stew.

There's a nice smoking deck with tables
and chairs at the entrance, and the
joint was pretty full. I loved it.
Thanks to Char, this was a very fun evening! I'll DEFINITELY want to go back there!

She even did a raffle, which Suzanne won, but I
forgot what the prize was! We all
sang Happy Birthday to Tony (Janet's husband) and
also Ken (Wendy's husband). I had a special
"black rubber" OVER THE HILL cake for Tony
that said Older Than Dirt on it, and it also
sang "Those Were the Days" by
Archie and Edith Bunker.

He turned 60 today, and doesn't
have one gray hair that I could see.

Don't you wish you had been there????

FEB. 17, FRIDAY EVENING

VALENTINE DINNER DANCE!.... at the Rancho de la Fuente in Lakeport was very disappointing to me!
We arrived on time, 7pm, and sat down at a beautiful table with a bouquet and white table cloth, joining Lady Ruthless, Lady Campy, Lady Suzie Snapshot and her squeeze, Don.

After about 1/2 hour, with no water or anything served, and no cocktails available, the two instructors called everyone up in a circle to learn The Salsa.

The Queen learned THE SALSA!!!!
CHA CHA CHA........

We all tried; my husband couldn't catch on, but I thought it was fun, but then we sat down, as my shoes were killing me, and we waited, waited and waited.

It was also COLD in their yuppy barn, although they did have some of those large outdoor space heaters in there.
They kept playing music and dancing. Then I saw they were selling bottles of water for $1.00 or soda or coffee for $1.00 about 8pm. We bought some coffee; and waited and waited. Long about 8:30pm they sat up a buffet dinner with paper plates, and everyone got in line. They plopped a huge mound of Spanish rice and a tamale and some chips on each persons plate in line that I viewed when they walked by to their tables.
Frankly, the food looked unapealing, so I'll have to ask the ladies how it tasted, or if they even stayed and ate. 8:45pm the line was very long as there were about 150 people there. I apologized to my fellow hatters for the disappointing evening at 9pm, when Stew and I left for the nearby casino and ate a patty melt and did a little gambling. We were starving! Their parking lot was full of mud and was not well lit, so our shoes got yukked up on the way out, and it was damn freezing cold that night too!

Well, what can I say? I can do the Salsa now, but my partner can't so what good is it to me? Ha ha ha. Ya gotta laugh. This one I'll call THE QUEEN'S FOLLY. ......So far, it has been the least attractive and least enjoyable adventure we have had thus far. That's just my opinion, but I would rather have eaten at Taco Bell.

Happy Valentine's Day!

FEBRUARY 14th VALENTINE'S DAY... Konocti Kuties invited our
chapter to join them for an
elegant lunch at The Saw Shop restaurant on Main St. in Kelseyville,
for their HEART'S DELIGHT LUNCH. Gloria Snider handled the planning of this event.
I don't know how many went, as I was not there!
The seating was limited to 40 ladies at $15 each.

MONTHLY BREAKFAST AT EL GRANDE INN
was on Feb. 7th in their banquet room, just off the main dining restaurant area.
We met at 10am, as usual. Finally, someone got our table set properly, in the horseshoe shape, so we could converse more easily. Attending were Ida, Ida's guest Linda, Jane, Lynne, Alice, Pat D., Jan B., Vi, Mary P., Char, Janet, Jimmie, newest member Suzanne S., and returning from absence due to family illness was Lady Babe. That make a turnout of 16 happy ladies.

We discussed the upcoming FIFTIES DANCE planned for April 22, to celebrate the birthday of the Red Hat Society! We chose a SONG for the Kazoo Kontest which will be part of the Fifties Dance, the song being BEEP BEEP, THE LITTLE NASH RAMBLER. I ordered enough kazoos for all members and will collect for them at our next breakfast.

Lady Happy Harbin has volunteered to do one of her famous dance routines for the audience at the Fifties Dance! More on this later. Also, we discussed ordering of our name badges at $2.00 each. After the breakfast, a small group stayed behind and we played MEXICAN DOMINOES. I enjoyed it a lot, and we talked about a regular monthly game... DOUGHNUTS & DOMINOES DAY in the future.

JANUARY 29, Sunday
CHINESE NEW YEAR
Cantonese menu and POETRY & MUSIC
at the Alpine Café on Hwy. 20 in Lucerne.

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR !!

David Neft and Samaya were the opening performance for this event,
with Vince Metzger
as MC. It was a full house and now it is known that
they need a larger venue for this type of event.

The Clear Lake Minnow-Pausers that attended
this day were, (me) Linda, Char, Jimmie and her guest,
Char's guest Maria, Wendy & her husband Ken, my
daughter Sara, my husband Stew, Ruth, Giovanna
and Suzanne! A total of twelve in our group;
once again A DIRTY DOZEN!

We all had our typical purple clothes
and red hats, and made quite a colorful and
welcome showing, we were told, to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
There were plenty of people signed up to perform,
including myself and Lady Happy Harbin who did her rendition of Tina Turner
by lip sync, in her small velvet sexy dress
and wild blondish hair.

THE REAL TINA

THE FAKE TINA TURNER
Oh, yes! I’m touched by this show of emotion.....
Should I be fractured by your lack of devotion?
Should i, should i? ....
YOU'D BETTER BE GOOD TO ME!
I don't know if I was imagining it, but I
thought the audience was very surprised to have
Char perform such an alluring routine, amidst their quite serious
poetry readings. An announcement was made that
they are taking applications for the new POET LAUREATE,
if anyone is interested in the position representing Lake County.

Maybe I kind of broke the ice by reading
4 of my silliest poems, so they would get the idea
we are a silly fun-loving bunch of ladies. There were a few
chuckles, so I guess they liked it.

The poems and music finished up about 5:30pm,
and we were told they did not have enough buffet Chinese
food for us; they ran out, so some of us traveled down the
road and had dinner at THE BOAT HOUSE in Nice, there on the lake.
Turns out, they were also serving "only"
Chinese food to celebrate the New Year, so we all ordered that, since
that is all they were serving that day. There were quite
a few frowns at the table as the dinners were served, and some
turned up noses at the cold chow mein and odd looking
sweet and sour pork from a can. I don't think they
really knew Chinese food from turnips and I heard
the coffee was pretty foul also. Heck, it was only
$6.95 for bad food, so you can't complain TOOOOO much.

We should have all done like Char and ordered
the chocolate dessert. Some sent back the
food and ate ONLY dessert, which is not unusual
for a Red Hatter anyway. After all, that's what we
all love.........CHOCOLATE, and plenty of it!

Hope you all enjoyed the day!!! I know
I certainly did, and those Martinis sure looked fabulous,
although I passed on it and had the foul coffee.
Hey, we can't always have a fantastic meal or we wouldn't
know to appreciate or know if it was good or excellent.

HAPPY HATTING, AND SEE YOU AT THE NEXT EVENT!

JANUARY 24, Tuesday - BREAKFAST at MAIN STREET CAFE - was at 10am as usual. There were 17 of us, along with a two guests, which made a total of 19 silly ladies being loud and having fun!

Ended up there were only 3 that wanted to stay behind at noon and play some Mexican Train Dominoes, which is not enough players, so we will try again next month after breakfast.

Dominoes, with a cha cha cha flavor!
Let's play MEXICAN TRAIN DOMINOES

Bring 50 cents of pennies and also one dollar to put in the pot. Winner takes the dollar pot, loser takes the penny pot at the end.
Lady Ruthless handled the ordering of our name badge buttons and collected the money = $2.50 for a name tag, or $5.00 for a name button with photo. This will be great for all us forgetful ones = (all of us?)

JANUARY 8, Sunday - ELVIS' 70th Birthday performance!

Lady Happy Harbin Char
gazes into Elvis' eyes.....
LONGINGLY?

Yes, he's an imposter, but Michael Albert did a terrific tribute
to Elvis, and it was a FREE
show at Robinson Rancheria in Nice.

The concert started at 9pm, and we met
in front of the restaurant at 5:30pm to dine together.
Since they would not take table reservations, we
managed to cram 8 or 10 of us into one
booth, elbow to elbow and enjoyed our meal.

Our Vice Mother, Lady Vibrations (Janet) was
in charge of this event, and we somehow were able
to get one entire row full of us Red hatters
from the Clear Lake Minnow-Pausers chapter.

The highlight for me was a big
laugh when Elvis chose my husband's
ex-wife Nora to join him on stage. One of my chapter ladies
took this photo, not knowing she was my "enemy". ha ha

Some of the ladies did not dine with
us, but arrived later to see Elvis in person.

One of my Ladys got a little overly excited over Elvis, and we
got this snapshot of her.
She was expelled from our chapter immediately!

A mystery lady from our group attacked Elvis!
Do you know who she is?

Elvis finale....singing DIXIE

JANUARY 18, WEDNESDAY RED HAT SWAP MEET and LUNCH - A multi-chapter event, was hosted by the Queen Pat Ivor
of the Konocti Kuties, who once again, graciously invited us.

Suzanne's hat and mine....

We met at 11am in the POW WOW with
our "trade out" items in tow.

I took several hats and shoes, and ended up with
3 new hats I am anxious to wear. The swap was a lot of
fun and the lunch was good.
The menu was chicken breast w/pineapple salsa, green salad, broccoli/rice pilaf, coffee, tea, and chocolate cake for dessert, all for $14.00.

Those from my chapter who attended were my daughter Sara, as my guest (from No. Carolina), Giovanna, Ruth M., Suzanne, and maybe some others, and maybe I forgot to list them.
Anyway, I'm glad I went, it was a very enjoyable afternoon with some very kind and sweet ladies.

DECEMBER 20 – TUESDAY was out at noon, at my house. Each lady brought a gift wrapped present and we played the gift exchange game. There were some fabulous potluck dishes, along with my Spiral Ham and veg. lasagne.
For me, the hit of the dessert dishes was the chocolate chip dream whip cookie pudding or pie that Lady VIVACIOUS VI brought. She left me a huge portion to make sure my husband got to taste it, and he is demanding me to get the recipe. Hope it isn't a secret recipe, Vi!

There were 20 ladies in attendance: Janet, Char, Ida, Cynthia, Alice, Joanne, Jimmie, Jan. B., Giovanna, Vi, Wendy, Ruth, Gloria, Mary S., Suzanne, Bertie, Ruth S., Marcia, Pat R., and myself.

Left to right: Lady GodIDA, Lady Chat Lover Marcia, Queen Shady Ladybug, Lady Vivacious Vi, and Lady Lush Locks Pat.

Xmas Gift Exchange with the gang...
at Queen Shady Ladybug's home.

We had feast and fun until 3:30pm on an otherwise dismal rainy day. We made our own kind of Red Hat sunshine!

NOVEMBER 26, SATURDAY – DICKEN’S CHRISTMAS MARKET
in Lakeport.

We were supposed to meet at 2pm in front of Ashley's Restaurant on Main Street, but I was late, and I later determined there were only 2 or 3 other chapter members that were able to make this one.

My daughter Jetta and I strolled the streets and shopped at all the booths looking for bargains, and we bought a dozen of the Crispy Creme doughnuts from Giovanna's booth, although she was not there. This was a benefit for an Alzheimer's Support Group that she volunteers for in Lucerne.

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, we met for breakfast at the Main Street Cafe in Clearlake
We had a total of 20 red hats and some good photographs were taken.

OUR NOVEMBER 15 –TUESDAY LUNCHEON at ROBINSON RANCHERIA in Nice,

was just wonderful. This event was hosted by the KONOCTI KUTIES (Queen Pat McIvor and her Vice Queen Kim, who did a wonderful job!

Most of us arrived between 11:15 and 11:30am for the social hour and the food served at noon was terrific. A buffet consisting of Chicken Parmesan, vegetarian lasagne, caesar salad, vegetables, penne pasta, and there was a very tasty chocolate mousse pie! I was trying to "diet" and saved mine, and took it to Char afterward, since she had to work in her beauty shop.

Queen Pat held a 50/50 raffle of which the two winners got $41.50 cash each, and the 3rd winner (Lady Double D Lynne) won the Safeway turkey certificate. Since she had already bought a turkey for Thanksgiving, I ended up buying her certificate for $5.00 which reimbursed her for her raffle ticket purchase, and I lucked out getting a turkey for $5.00

Those attending today were myself, Janet, Jan B., Lynne, Giovanna, Ruth, Jane, Heidi, Elsie, Marcia, Pat R., (a total of 11...hope I didn't forget anyone!) Everyone looked very glamorous in their purple outfits and red hats today! We all did a little penny gambling afterward, and it was a beautiful, sunny day, for November.
Giovanna (Lady Go-A-Lot) announced that she will have a booth at the Dicken's Fair on Nov. 26 (one of our events), and she will be selling CRISPY CREME DOUGHNUTS for $7.00 per dozen. She'll have 500 dozen available for purchase! Be sure to buy a dozen, for a good cause, to help the rescue mission that she volunteers for.
Here's my chance, since I have NEVER tasted a Crispy Creme doughtnut yet. I plan to starve all day and then eat about 1/2 dozen doughnuts and call it breakfast, lunch and dinner!
See you ladies on next Tuesday for breakfast at the Main Street Cafe at 10am!!! I love each and every one of you! Special cheers to my ONLY smoking buddy, Ruth! She and I are still puffing away, and as Lynne brought to our attention, we have very, very black lungs. Yuk! Well, someday, Ruth, we will quit.

MONTHLY BREAKFAST TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18th was at 10am Meet at MAIN STREET CAFÉ
on Lakeshore Dr. in Clearlake.

I love eggs!
There was a LONG table set up for us, and 16 giggling ladies enjoyed the morning together.
Those present were Marcia, Lynne, Gloria, Suzanne, Ida Mae, Ruth, Heidi, Peggy, Jan B., Giovanna, Mary P., Wendy, Char, Janet, Alice, and myself.
As a special surprise, to celebrate our one year anniversary of our chapter today, I picked up the tab for everyone's breakfast. I just wanted to show my appreciation to all of my ladies to have them in my chapter, because I believe they are all so special. The harmony of this group is fantastic. There is no squabbling, back-stabbing, jealousy, competition or discord in our little sisterhood, which I believe is unusal, because MOST females in clubs have their catty problems! Ha Ha. I might be a little predudiced, but I sincerely think MY chapter ladies are the best that we could ever wish for.
Oddly enough, there was not ONE lady present that was a charter member of my chapter that started LAST October. Many have dropped out and been replaced, and I think we have real KEEPERS now, who are going to STAYERS.

Clear Lake Minnow-Pausers are the BEST!

We played one 50's TRIVIA game, with Giovanna and Ida Mae tying as winners, and therefore, both getting prizes. Also, I had each lady write down one adjective word to describe each fellow hatter present, so that NEXT meeting, it will be revealed what your sister's think of you, "IN A WORD". It will be very interesting, and also, I will give each lady a copy of her "compliments" to keep with her forever. I don't know about YOU, but knowing that people are saying sweet things about me, and being able to look at that list when I am down, will definitely bring me back up! It's a little EGO thing for each of us, to keep in our back pocket. The love in our group is just incredible.
We have formed a wonderful FRIENDSHIP group, a sisterhood, and that is the whole point of the Red Hat Society. We have succeeded, with an A+, for sure.

As I rode off in my egg yolk colored Chevy, I had a full smile on my face,
a full heart and a full belly!

I love ya all,

Queen Shady Ladybug Linda

It's HARVEST TIME !

Some of our members did some GRAPE STOMPING, OCTOBER 8th,at the STEELE WINERY HARVEST FESTIVAL !!

Your tootsies might turn purple,
but it won't hurt you!!!

This event is hosted by Queen Pat Ivor of the Konocti Kuties and her Vice Mother, Kim Hendricks.

I was planning to do this event anyhow, so I figured, why not join in with the OTHER chapter, and the more the merrier?

Everyone said they had a great time, and the vendor booths there were the best they had ever seen. The food and music was wonderful too.

Our member Happy Harbin Char was a stomp off winner in the contests and so was Kim H. of the Konocti Kuties and her helper, Heidi.

SEPTEMBER 19th - LUSHY LUAU IN LUCERNE

I forgot to do the hula for you gals!!

Lady Go-A-Lot (Giovanna) invited us to her home in LUCERNE on September 19th for a Hawaiian Luau swim party. Once again, we had a total of a DIRTY DOZEN DAMES donning their swimwear and sarongs in the sun! Lady Happy Harbin Char and Lady Cutie Cucumber Mary were the only brave ones to take a dip in the pool to cool off their hot flashes!!

Here is Char in her bathing suit!
in her bathing suit!

Lady Ruthless Ruth was Giovanna's assistant for this event and helped Giovanna provide the main course for dinner, and the rest of us brought some delicious appetizers and desserts. The food was so FANTASTIC I couldn't believe it, and enough to feed an army of red hatters. There was succelent bbq ribs, coconut prawns, salads, veggie casserole, fruit salad and more! Giovanna really knocked herself out and is a fabulous cook!!
Well, I must say that Giovanna's Pina Colada cake was the biggest hit in the dessert department, but Lady Jane's chocolate cake was a close runner up! It pretty much got totally devoured. There was our famous RED HAT TEA that Lady Janet brought and punch and coffee provided by Giovanna.

We played GUESS WHO THE BABY IS.....

We were so cute THEN!

......as we had each brought a baby photo of ourselves, and none of us were too good at guessing, but Lady Happy Harbin won the prize by guessing 3 correct! Lady Cynthia got the "booby prize" for guessing the least, which was a "Fart Extinguisher".

There was also a prize given to Lady Go-A-Lot for coming up with the most words to our SACRED PLEDGE of ALLEGIANCE! Someday, maybe you can all memorize it so we can recite it together at an event!

We dined and whined until 5pm and I was the last to depart, with Char and Janet......when suddenly as we were backing down the driveway, Lady Ruthless came running out of the house with a big black purse saying "IS THIS YOUR PURSE?".... "NO!" we said.... Then I heard Giovanna yell out "THAT'S MY PURSE, RUTH!" ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Another occurrence at this event was that Lady Happy Harbin Char discovered after she'd went home that evening she had lost her treasured grandmother's ring she was wearing, but happily, Giovanna retrieved it from the pool the next day, and Char was once again, happy and giggling.

Those attending were: Myself, Char, Janet, Ruth, Giovanna, Mary S., Jane, Heidi, Alice, Lynne, Cynthia, and Pat D. Our Lady Godida was unable to attend, due to her husband Oz having an emergency pacemaker installed that day! We wish him well with his new ticker!

Until next time, laugh a lot, and love a lot!

BREAKFAST at MAIN STREET CAFE in Clearlake on Wednesday, Sept. 14, had a great turnout of members. We had a first visit from a new member, Jan Bonderson, and others attending were myself, Mary Schossler, Alice Camp, Char Fassbinder, Janet King, Mary Parker, Vi Packer, Lynne Gallo, Pat Dineen, Wendy Dalton and Judy Noell, a total of 12 lovely ladies. The set up we'd ask for was to be on the patio, a table for a dozen ladies. What we got was a table for 15 set up in the back bar, where we were hidden from public view. Was that a silent message that they don't think we are "all that" cute? We played the "Give Yourself a Point" game that Lady Can Can Jan hosted for us, and Lady Vocal Vi was the winner of the Red Hat nightlight for a prize. We are all looking forward to the luau on Sept. 19 that Lady Go-A-Lot Gio and Lady Ruthless are having for our group!
Afterward, I headed down to Char's Salon and got my hair done - VERY BLONDE this time.

I've gotta go do some grocery shopping this morning and I think I'll wear my dark glasses so no one will recognize me, as I am feeling strange, and not even recognizing myself right now, anyway.

THE MENOPAUSE THE MUSICAL PLAY, AUGUST 14th was very, extremely hilarious. Including our chapter, there were a total of 35 ladies that enjoyed the play together (Six of them were family and friends of our member Lady Happy Harbin that are from Alameda. Most of us got on the 10am ferry in Vallejo together and promptly ordered up Blood Mary's to quench our thirst from waiting in line and gabbing.

I just loved the play, as did everyone else! I couldn't believe my eyes (and ears) when one of the singers starting singing the old 60's song "GOOD, GOOD, GOOD....GOOD VIBRATIONS to her DILDO vibrator. Too much! A couple of red hatters behind us laughed so hard they wet their pants!
The entire performance was done by 4 very talented ladies for a solid 90 minute show without a break. Afterward, they invited us ladies up on the stage to do a CAN CAN dance with them, and they pinned us with a souvenior button that says "I've Changed!" Cute idea for us that have been through 'THE CHANGE'already. Songs about night sweats, songs about life and love...fabulous, fabulous. If you missed it, you MUST go see it before it leaves San Francisco!!!

There are LOTS of restaurants at Pier 39, but with 275 red hatters attending the play, they were all pretty jammed.

Our group had reservations for 25 at Chic's Seafood Restaurant at 11:30am and it was very lovely, with views of the bay and the Golden Gate. THEN AFTERWARD At 1pm, ALL red hatters were invited to a cocktail party at the theatre, before the 2pm performance. We enjoyed a couple of Menopause Mai Tais and Meno-Tini Watermelon vodka & schnapps, and they allowed us to take our drinks into the theatre.

Dinner afterward was an optional event, and some did just that before getting on the ferry home.

We dined Sunday evening at the "new" CLIFF HOUSE out on the edge of town with beautiful ocean views there. Lady Can Can and I, with our husbands spent the night in San Francisco at the MARINA MOTEL 2576 Lombard St. (800)346-6118 or (415) 921-9406. It was a lovely older motel built in 1936 to celebrate the Golden Gate Bridge, and kept up very nicely, with beautiful bougainvillas and fushias filling the courtyard. Our room had a separate kitchen, much like a studio apartment. The garages are underneath the units, sort of like a little townhouse. Very charming, all in all, and for future reference the rooms are only $99 for two persons per nite, and there is FREE PARKING there, plus they allow my little doggie, Bobby.

My husband and I stayed through Tuesday night, and went to the David Gray concert at the Fillmore Auditorium. He's one of my favorites, and you should check him out online. Look for his album WHITE LADDER, but he has others too, and is from England.

On our last day there I got a beautiful vase and bird of paradise arrangement from a shop in Sausalito...... I just loved it and had to have it! It was pretty expensive, but I bought it partly because I was miffed at Stew. Here's what happened.......... We enjoyed brunch at the Lighthouse Cafe there in Sausalito, and when we were departing, our new little yellow truck/car-convertible was parked right in front. I got in and he got in; I glanced to my side window and there was a BEE on it, in the car. In my extreme panic, I yelled and opened the door and let it just FLOP open, and the door whammed onto a steel pole there in the way. He says, what the hell and started rolling his eyes and was upset, as he was SURE there was a big dent in the car door. I got miffed and said, "Well, SHIT, you care more about the car than you do me; I should have let the damn bee sting me and flop over dead, instead of wrecking the car door!" Turns out, after our little argument, that he didnt see the bee and didn't know WHY I flopped the door open like that. ........and the door wasn't dented after all and not a scratch on it, for whatever reason! Swiftly, I had him drive me to the nearest gift shop, walked in, and lo and behold, there was my expensive floral arrangement I found, begging me to buy it. It was my reward for not being killed by the bee.

Til the next barrel of fun, keep laughing!
Queen Shady Ladybug, LINDA

ON AUGUST 9, TIPSY TUESDAY BREAKFAST at TWIN PINES CASINO in Middletown was a really fun morning, which ran into lunch for some of us also. We arrived at 9:30am and registered for the free senior breakfast and got our $5 gambling cash they give to Seniors over 55. They had an area by the stage set up for us all, and served doughnuts, muffins, orange juice and coffee. Also, gave us each a green sticker for our clothes to indicate we might get chosen for the free spin of the big wheel, if we were playing slots.

Turned out, none of us got chosen for the chance, but a Lower Lake woman won $1,000 on her free spin! YIPPEEE! For her!

There were 12 red hatters there, who were Lady Jane, Lady Dorothy Martinez (Jane's guest), Lady Lush Locks (Pat), Lady Godida, Lady Square Peg, Lady Can-Can Jan, Judy and Penn as guests of Ida (her golfing buddies), Lady Vocal Vi, Lady Chat Lover (Marcia), and one of our newbies Lady Mary Schossler, who I am now bestowing the royal name of LADY CUCUMBER! .....of course, all of you know why! She did bring a nice basket of cucumbers and zucchini to share with us from her garden, which we gladly took. Then, we noticed some of the employees in the casino giving us the eye, and one of them asked me, with raised eyebrows, "What are you ladies going to do with those cucumbers?" Lady Jane said, "Well, it's too bad they didn't come with batteries!" You get the idea.

Too bad they didn't come with batteries,
Lady Jane lamented....

So, we walked around the casino with cucumbers jutting our of our purses, and left people wondering. Thank you so much, LADY CUCUMBER MARY! I complained to her that the last cucumber left in the basket was soft, and she said she'd make sure she brought me a REALLY hard one the next time.

I sold a bunch of raffle tickets at $1 each and Lady Cucumber won the grand prize of a new red hat! Others won various jewelry for prizes, and we were a happy bunch.

Lady Vocal Vi could not tear herself away from the $1 slot machines and she was playing two at a time, and came out with a grand total of over $300 in winnings!!! Some of us went ahead and ate lunch there, which we enjoyed a lot. I think Janet and I were the last to leave, as we just had to get in a little more penny gambling before we left for home.

Every Tues. is a free continental Senior breakfast and a chance for a free spin at Twin Pines, between 8:30am and 11:30am. OVER 55.

ON JULY 26, TUESDAY EVENING our chapter enjoyed an evening out at Richmond Park Restaurant and bar in Kelseyville.
There were a total of 15 ladies all giggling at the same time on the deck, and we got pretty loud at times.

Having fun on the deck!!

Most of us traveled by boat which made it EXTRA fun! The first group to arrive to claim their table on the deck was Captain Lady Ruthless Ruth and her first mate, Lady Double D Lynne, with Lady Campy (Alice) arriving by car. This group was a couple of cocktails ahead of the next arrivals.
The next crew was Queen Shady Ladybug (me), Lady Happy Harbin Char and Lady Can Can Jan, escorted by Jan's husband and mine who we hired to be our boat Captains for the evening. (The two men stayed in the bar and had dinner, as they were not allowed to sit with us since they didn't have red hats!)

Patiently awaiting the next boat of red hatters
and forcing more cocktails down!

We waited through a martini and a vodka cran for the next boat to arrive, which was late because they had waited for Lady Campy to show up, not knowing Lady Campy had decided to drive her car over.

Arriving in her gorgeous pontoon boat which she cruised from Highland's Harbor, was Captain Lady Chat Lover, along with her crew, Lady Lush Locks (Pat R.) Lady Godida May, and Marcia's guest, Wendy. Lady Godida May, the seamstress, made herself a darling purple sundress for the occasion!

Shortly thereafter, Lady Soul Mender Wendy came in by car a little late cause she got lost, bless her soul.

She had on a fabulous skirt
she bought at Lisa's Dress Shop
in Clearlake....
Something like this!

A little later, a new potential member showed up, Mary S., who just returned from a month's vacation in Austrailia. She is a singer! which will make a good addition to our chapter if she decides to join.

The surprise of the evening were two red hatters from the Konocti Kuties chapter joining with us for dinner. Jane Puccinelli and Suzanne O'Loughlin arrived with fanfare, whipping out their snapshots of all the rowdiness at the RHS Las Vegas convention they just went to in June. Suzanne had her 88th birthday while at the convention, but I swear she didn't look any older than the rest of us. (Is that good or bad?) Suzanne has been a professional photographer, so she gave us some great pointers on poses when the flash bulbs were going off, so as not to show our "double chins". We'll see if it worked when we get the photos onto this website! Jane phoned another Red Hatter pal who came to join us, Beverly Brown, of the Konocti Kuties!

We ended up NOT cooking our own steaks for the $12.50 since the menu revealed a great NY steak sandwich for the same price, and THEY would cook it for us and serve us! Like the royalty that we are, we like to be "served"!

We had a raffle drawing and Lady Lush Locks won the prize, which is a new BUNCO game, so maybe she will start one up, who knows! Then, we played a game that I conjured up that was a Red Hat Society questionnare. Example: What is the full name of the Exalted Queen who started the RHS (first, middle, and last name). ..........Sue Ellen Cooper is the answer, but no one got that one correct, however, Lady Can Can Jan won the prize for the most correct answers, which is a lavendar Gucci watch trimmed in simulated diamonds. Lady Happy Harbin won the "booby prize" for the least correct answers......a dessert cookbook and a bar of purple soap!!

On our way home in Lady Can Can's boat, us 3 gals took our hats off and let our hair down and our legs hang off into the water in the middle of the lake, and Lady Happy Harbin jumped in and swam, to celebrate her first boat ride on our beautiful Clear Lake!

Lady Happy Harbin
looked grand in her
RED BATHING SUIT
and purple sarong!

Finally, we were able to cool off, after our earlier evening practice of being the characters in the Wizard of Oz. Yes, on the deck of Richmond Park, we became the cowardly lion, the scarecrow, the tin man, the flying monkey and Dorothy.

Dorothy: Char
Cowardly Lion: Jan

Scarecrow: Me?
Tin Man: ?

Lady Campy (Alice) will be the WIZARD!

Lady Soul Mender Wendy
will make a perfect
FLYING MONKEY!!

We had a laughing ball........wonder if anyone was watching and thought we were strange?

We are thinking that we can do this routine at the Gong Show coming up the first week in October at the Sacramento Red Hat's Razzle Dazzle event. Anyone have a LION COSTUME or a MONKEY COSTUME to loan to us? Lady Soul Mender did a wonderful imitation of the flying monkey and even drew us a picture, so we could remember how it looked.

Lady Can Can and I also did our "LOLLIPOP KIDS" role, singing "We represent the Lollipop kids", along with a little dance.

Don't you wish you had been there? Me too!!!! I think we all had a wonderfully silly time with lots of HATTITUDE!

WEDNESDAY, July 20 The lunch and bingo gathering broadened my horizons and warmed my heart to see "My Ladies" enjoying themselves so much. I now own my very first purple Bingo ink dauber, with Easter bunny decor on it. I bought the LAST purple marker and felt smug until I saw Lady Godida got a Betty Boop marker that made me green with envy!

I forgot to get a head count of how many RED HATS attended, but a good guess would be around 25 hats.

Of course there were other "civilians" there too, playing Bingo. The photo below is one of them that tried to get into the Bingo game..............

This is a Red Hat Society REJECT! The security officer
refused to let this woman in to play Bingo!
I'd better NEVER, EVER catch
one of our chapter ladies dressing like this!
Only I am allowed to dress that weird...ha ha ha.

From our chapter, there were five.....namely, Lady Godida May, Lady Double D (Lynne), Lady Hey Jude, our newest member Lady Alice Camp aka Lady *Campy)....and myself.
(*CAMPY is an adjective to describe an activity, or someone's behaviour or appearance, that is amusing because it is obviously intended to be strange or shocking).

Queen Chris Belka of the "Whatever" chapter wore her purple hat, to signify she has a July birthday coming up (7/27). I was honored to have her and her sister sit at our table.

Lady Double D grabbed her digital camera and took photos of us and THANK YOU SO MUCH, Lynne!

The lunch was a very ample and delicious Chef Salad & a roll, a slice of apple pie and drinks included (coffee or tea---NOT gin!)...all for a $3.50 donation for the 60+ age group, which all of us present were qualified. For $5.00 they give you enough Bingo cards to play 3 hours straight!

Lady Godida and I left at 3pm so we could scout and explore my favorite shop there in Lakeport - the People Services Consignment/Thrift store on Main Street. Can you believe.......I found a straw hat with a large LADYBUG on top of it for 25 cents!??? It is so ugly it is cute... You'll see it on me, soon.

Queen Chris Belka is hosting an EVERY THIRD WEDNESDAY RED HAT BINGO event there at the Lakeport Senior Center, so that will be ongoing if any of you wish to go anytime.

Call one of your sisters
and go play BINGO! together.

Just call in your reservation for lunch to the Senior Center 263-4218 to let them know to save you a plate.

JULY 14th Some of our members joined the Spring Valley chapter of Red Hat Society called RED HAT PEPPERS, aboard the Clear Lake Queen for a lunch cruise on our beautiful lake.
I do not have any details on how the event went, except that they all just loved it! (I was on vacation at the coast cooling off, so I could not attend).

Lady Happy Harbin got lost on the way,
and MISSED THE BOAT!!! She was crying on the dock
watching them sail away!

JUNE 20, 2005, MONDAY – CLEAR LAKE MINNOW-PAUSERS’ CHAPTER EVENT !!

Our Monday breakfast at El Grande Inn Restaurant was a huge success,

The atrium at El Grande Inn

with a dozen Red Hatters from our chapter attending around 10am. Unfortunately, I was unable to make this event, due to a bout with the flu bug or something similar.
Those attending were Lynne G., Marcia C., Mary P., Pat D., Char, Janet, Wendy (as Char's guest), Trudy (as Lynne's guest), Judy N., Vi P., Ellen, and Pat R. . I was happy to hear that Ellen could make it, as she has been recovering from her neck surgery, and wish I had been there to see her and the others.
It was reported that El Grande Inn's cocktail lounge is closed until 3pm, and the gals were unable to partake in a Bloody Mary with their breakfast which was disappointing. Ellen had the ultimate solution of a typical red hatter....

Glad you are part of the action again, Ellen!!

she ordered hot chocolate and laced it with some foreign liquid from a little cell phone type flask.

It looks like this...

Wonder what it was? Anyway, it was oh so sweet of her to share it with her "sisters"!
I was told the breakfast was excellent, but the service was a little less than expected, due to only one waitress there serving, taking orders, and doing clean up.
The gals were not finished chatting after breakfast, so they headed on over to Howard's Grotto for a little toddy, and visited with our friend, Bartender Sharon K., puzzling some of the male customers there in the bar with their rowdyness, I understand. It sounds like you gals had a lot of fun!!!
I am thinking that since some of you wanted cocktails to be available, and that I should go ahead and schedule our next monthly gathering somewhere else. As you know, there are not too many choices on a Monday here in town for restaurants.
See you at the next gathering, ladies!
Love, Queen Shady Ladybug, Linda

JUNE 4, 2005, SATURDAY – CLEAR LAKE MINNOW-PAUSERS’ CHAPTER EVENT !!

Next year, can we play
CHICKEN CHIP BINGO??
How come cows get all the fun?

Left to rt.:Lady Judy, Lady Double D Lynne, and Queen Shady Ladybug, Linda

COW CHIP BINGO & BBQ EVENT

A total of 17 attending.........along with about 200 other people.

Queen Shady Ladybug dragged her red-shirted husband by the ear, and made him wear his cowboy boots, arriving early at Adamson's Ranch in Lower Lake for the COW CHIP BINGO & BBQ event. We snagged the first picnic table that had plenty of shade, and I draped my big red table cloth on it and plopped down my much used ladybug dried bouquet centerpiece, and placed our silverware on it. (A queen should not eat with plastic utensils, you know!)

The giant barbeques were already stoked up and ready for the tri tips and chicken and the full bar was already in place under a shade tree, as I strolled over to have my first ice cold beer. I poured it into a purple cup and sat down at the Red Hat table and awaited my ladies.

Our purple cups held various concoctions later one, including the vodka cran cocktails!

Ladies attending were Lady Curious Georgia, Lady Double D Lynne, Lady Ruth, Lady Linda Walker, Lady June, Lady Vi Packer, Lady Mary Parker, Lady Judy and Lady Chat Lover Marcia. Several of these ladies dragged their husbands along and Lynne brought her male guest too! Lynne's guest, and David H., Ron W., Bruce P., Joe C.,George L. and my guy Stew were the male counterparts putting up with us, so including them, the headcount was 10 Red Hatters and seven fellers with us.

Lynne, Ruth and Judy,
admiring the Golden Cow Chip Award

Some ladies wore red cowboy hats, and some wore red ball caps with sequins and glitter with their purple clothes, and one pink hatter wore her pink visor and overalls. We also had a potential member join us (Mary S.) who was wearing a beautiful red dress and red hat, and had never even heard of the Red Hat Society! Suddenly, our table got too small, and we were not able to all eat together at the same time.

The cow chip bingo game had a prize winning grid drawn on the ground with chalk into squares, with a potential winning number for each participant. Then, Phil Adamson, the MC, let the cows in one at a time, and they walked around inside the fence while we were on the bleachers, cheering them on to plop their cow pie on the spot we bet on!!!

THE OLD "CASH COW"...
Watch out....I'm about to "CHIP"...

I about fell off the bleachers with my purple umbrella when they called out MY NAME as the first winner of $100 cash! I was then pulled inside the arena, to go collect my winning money!

Along with the money, I was given a big wad of toilet paper with the winning poop they had scooped up for me from my grid square. Yuk! I then announced, "This must be my lucky day, June 4, as it is also mine and my husband's 17th wedding anniversary!"

I had the lucky number on the first spot!!!

...and the winner is
the Queen of the Clear Lake Minnow-Pausers of Clearlake!!!!

Camera's flashed on both sides of the bleachers and the moment was saved in time forever. I directly headed straight for the "blue room" potty and tossed the offending cow pie portion.

There were other prizes won throughout the day, both from winning grid squares and various raffle ticket sales going on. Our newest member, Lady Judy, won 3 prizes in all! It was a lucky day for SOME red hatters.

Who won the best Poker hand?

I had a Red Hat Poker Dice game going for us Red Hat gals, and at first Linda W. and Curious Georgia were tied with the same full house throw of the dice, however, the final throw of a larger full house of 6's and 2's won the prize for Lady Lynne, which was a pair of purple earrings, a purple bow, a purple handkerchief, and a silk red rose.

The food was scrumptuous, along with all the liquor or soda we could drink, the barbequed dinner of tri tips and chicken, potato salad, macaroni salad, green salad and garlic bread. The $50 per couple ticket cost for this event also included our wagers on the cow pie grid.

The Queen's husband dragged her out of there around 5pm and headed for home. Then, about 6:30pm, we went to Howard's Grotto with my $100 winnings for our anniversary dinner. In came more friends, so we got a big table together and ate in the bar. Joining us was Dave & Georgia, Ross & Linda, Lisa & Rob, Yvonne & Gary with 3 or 4 conversations going on at the same time, so we got pretty loud. We can always count on Howard (the owner) though to be even louder, so it was no problem. Also, we all got lottery tickets and I haven't check our results yet, but since it was our "lucky" day.....Hey, you never know! It was a really fun day, celebrating our anniversary, with my fellow Red Hatters!!!

SUNDAY, MAY 22, LUNCH, LIMO RIDE and ZOMBIES FROM the BEYOND PLAY

The ladies arrived at my house at noon......

Come on in, girls!

with their 2 sandwich bag lunch in hand and I quartered all of our donated sandwiches on a "lazy susan" and we shared them, along with iced tea, some potato salad I made, and some chocolate éclairs and apple pies outside on my patio. What an easy way to have a luncheon, and the weather was just perfect! We had red paper plates and purple paper cups....all throw-aways, with no dishes to wash.

Lady Godida Mae sneaked in some individual bottles of wine and made us all drink some, so we would all be riding on her "sin wagon". We ate, drank and gossiped until 'til we almost got Lockjaw, then we played two games which were "How Many Items in Your Purse on this list?" with Lady Jan King (our new member) winning two Red Hat accessories prizes and Lady Godida and Lady SINthia tying in the 2nd game of 1940's trivia questions. We had to have them "draw straws" to determine the final winner, who was Lady Godida, winning the purple pill box hat.

Our "older members" won, because who else would remember drawing a line down the back of their legs to imitate nylon seams when there was a shortage of nylons during WWII ?

My daughter, Sara, joined us today, wearing a pink hat and pink jeans, looking beautiful and very femme fatale. (She will be moving to North Carolina in mid-June, so she and I are spending as much time together as possible right now!

I told the gals to follow me when departing for the play and they did, just like little sheep, wondering why......We strolled down my driveway, and there awaited our black hearse limo with side flames, and our driver pouring champagne for all of us.

Ahhh, what great champagne!!

My kind husband, Stew, was already down there, ready with the camera and took photos of us! The limo owner, Milton is a friend and did this for us at no charge, saying, “I think the Red Hat Society ladies all deserve riding in a limo since they are giving such class to Lake County!”

Here is the beautiful limosine!!

Now, WE MUST think of a way to repay him, since he would accept no tipping or payment. The Zombies From the Beyond musical comedy was just fabulous, and we all enjoyed it so much!

Afterward, our limo awaited, with Milton again pouring champagne. I yelled out, “Hey, everybody, look at us!”, as we exited the parking lot. Milton agreed to drop 3 of us off at the Rock House to have a martini, and took the more docile ladies back to my house to get their cars and head home.

Queen Linda, Char and Jan sure had a lot of laughs
down at the old ROCK HOUSE on Lakeshore Dr. in
Clearlake. They allow cigarette smoking in this
fine establishment!

I think there were 3 big heads Monday morning, since it was 9:30pm when we finally walked on (or staggered) by the police station and back home. We were afraid they would get us for "walking drunk in public" !
What a day ..........Well, it was only 9 ½ hours of fun, that’s all!
Those attending this gathering were Queen Shady Ladybug Linda, Lady Godida Mae, Lady SINthia (Cynthia), Pink Hat Sara, Peggy (Ida's friend), and new members Jan K. and Char F.

Lady Char

Lady Jan King

That made a total of 7, which fit in the limo just perfectly, along with the driver.

"You know, a little religion never hurt anyone!"

SUNDAY, MAY 15, LUNCH and PASSION PLAY:

I was not able to make this one, as I just had got off our ship that day in San Francisco from my 11 day cruise on the Mexican Riviera.
Those who were able to attend were Pat D., Ruth, Cynthia, Lady God-Ida Mae, and Ida's two golfing buddies (Ping and Judy). That makes a total of six lovely ladies enjoying the day together.

Ping and Judy were actually performers in the Passion Play that day.

Lady God-Ida reported the food was excellent at Ashley's Restaurant where they lunched prior to the Passion Play.

It started to rain

Poor Jesus, he's getting wet on the cross....

just after Christ was nailed to the cross, so the group had to make a quick exit, however, Lady God-Ida said the play was very inspiring, and that she "needed that", sinner that she is! (I doubt that, but that is her words). I think she is an angel in disguise.

I wish I had been there!
Queen Shady Ladybug, Linda

MONDAY, APRIL 25 - MULTI-CHAPTER LUNCHEON
at ROBINSON'S RANCHERIA:

RED HAT SOCIETY DAY LUNCHEON at Robinson's Rancheria I was not able to attend the luncheon due to personal problems I had to attend to, but I got a great report from Lady Double D Lynne of how it went. The event was hosted by the Riviera Rubies chapter and the turnout was 125 people for the Hawaiian buffet luncheon at Robinson's Rancheria.

Along with teriyaki flavors, later came the chocolate mousse type dessert. There was a no host bar in the convention room set up for the event, but some of the ladies preferred a "real" glass to have their cocktails in, instead of plastic, so they went to the "real" bar in the casino and got one.

There was a raffle for a "red hat" quilted wall hanging, and also raffles for purple and red feather boas, and all of the queen's were called up to the front and received some type of certificate, representing the 15 chapters that now have evolved in Lake County. Giovanna went up there and stood in my place (THANK YOU SO MUCH, GIOVANNA).

Attending the luncheon from our group was only 3; Giovanna and Ruth who are both newer members and former Konocti Kuties chapter gals, and Lynne, our Lady Double D........ who incidentally forgot to take her camera, she says, since she has been doing a lot of our group photos for us. Oh, well........we seniors DO forget sometimes, and I am guilty on that one!

Lynne took a new potential member, Judy Noelle, with her, who filled in my spot, since my ticket was already paid for. I have not met Judy yet, but am looking forward to it. She is a "long time" friend of Lynne's.

We have been having poor turnout of some of our gatherings, and I'm not sure what the reason is, but hope it will improve.
Queen Shady Ladybug, Linda

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13 - OUR CHAPTER LUNCHEON!
This event was planned by Lady Marcia (Lady Chat Lover)and we met at 1:30pm for a lunch at Mt. St. Helena Brewing Co. in Middletown.
Those present were myself and five other Red Hatters; Marcia, Ida Mae, Cynthia, Ruth, and Giovanna. Giovanna and Ruth are joining our group, but also have been members of the Konocti Kuties for several years. The group grew very large, being the first chapter in Lake County, so they would like a smaller more intimate group, and said that our chapter is more active than their other one.
We had our red tablecloth and purple paisley napkins and several wore red COWBOY hats to promote the upcoming event (June 4) COW CHIP BINGO. (See information on UPCOMING EVENTS page on this site).

The staff were buttheads with no smiles for us, NOR do they provide service for our table.
Us "elderly women" had to get our own grub!

We planned the May event, which is a lunch and the famous Passion Play on May 15th in Upper Lake. Then we played a game called "Give Yourself a Point", with the winner of the prize being Giovanna. The prize must have been "meant to be for Giovanna" because her birthday is in JUNE, and the prize was a purple cowboy hat from the Imperium Shopping store of the Red Hat Society. She'll be able to wear it for her June birthday month and to the Cow Chip Bingo event.
All of us went gamling down at Twin Pines Casino after lunch, but I think I was the only winner on the penny slots........gosh, I won a whole $10, after playing two hours!!

FRIDAY, MARCH 18 –RED HAT CHAPTER EVENT!!! JAY LENO SHOW, CACHE CREEK CASINO in Brooks Husbands were invited to this fun evening, and we met at 6pm for gambling and cocktails and 8pm we all went to the Harvest Buffet, and oh, what a delicious buffet!
Lots of seafood on a Friday night and everything was great at $20 a person. I wish we could have all sat at the same table, but they would not reserve, and they would not do that for us! Well, we were right across from each other anyhow. This evening of fun was attended by QSLB Linda and her husband, Stew; Lady Jester-Hysterian Ellen and her husband Jay, (who spent the night); Lady Carol and her husband, Tom; and also Lady Pat, who rode in with her neighbor, Marcia; and of course, Lady Chat Lover Marcia, and her husband Joe. At 10am we went on into the Jay Leno show, and he was great! (Of Course).
We all enjoyed it, and I must say that Lady Pat is always a lucky gambler! None of us did that great though, and they have NO penny machines whatsover there, so they do not welcome the "cheapskates", which is what my Scottish hubby is, and me too! Neverless, I went through $100 trying to win on the nickle machines with NO LUCK.
Joe and I went to the bar to get some cocktails, and he wanted to get one for Marcia too..........but NO..... 'ONLY ONE DRINK PER PERSON' the bartender stated! OKAY.... he had to come back a second time to get her drink. That stinks, right?
I don't mean to complain, but, they have some silly rules there.
Next time.......hmmmmmmmmmmm, oh who knows. We'll know their rules!
We all had a good time, and we all loved Jay Leno! Bet you wish you had been there!

LINDA

PHOTOS TO FOLLOW............ taken by QSLB's husband.

MARCH 16th EVENT at Robinson's Rancheria!

RED HAT CHAPTER EVENT!!!
“HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY” really was, and there was 109 red hatters there in the new convention room. The buffet was very elegantly served and delicious.....corned beef, cabbage, red potatoes, carrots, variety of salads, bread/butter, and a big cake to top it off!
There was a bar set up for us in there, but drinks were expensive at $5.00 for one glass of Merlot.

Here's Lady Ida Mae in her St. Pat's Hat!!!

The event was hosted by the Konocti Kuties Lakeport chapter, and I was delighted to meet Queen Pat Ivor and her Vice Mother Kim. They were both a real kick! They had a 50/50 raffle for cash and had intended to have Karaoke, but Kim brought the wrong tv with no plug in for it!
Oh, well, a good time was had by all anyway. There were round tables of 8, but unfortunately, they did not have enough room when we arrived for our chapter to sit all together. Still, it was a lot of fun, and we sang Happy Birthday to Marcia, as her birthday is on the 17th!
At $13.00 including tax and tip, the food was great, and they also provided us with a $5.00 coupon for MatchPlay! We all did some slot machine gambling afterward, and got back home at my door at 4:30pm.
Marcia brought her SUV and drove part of our group. In attendance were Lynne, Marcia, Cynthia, Ida Mae, Pat R., Ruth, and myself.
One thing I do want to make note of here is that I am so proud of the gals in my chapter as they all dress so classy and elegant, and I told them so! Wow! They all looked fabulous! Marcia, the birthday girl, had on a beautiful red dress with a little purple jacket and her purple heels and even a purple feather ankle bracelet.

Lady Chat Lover Marcia won
the table decoration.

Pat R. had a great wool purple pant suit on, Ida Mae had sewn a sheer purple fabric cape style top; Cynthia, so smartly dressed too in a grey wool jacket with a purple top under it, purple earrings........the works!

Lady Cynthia, looking regal in her decorated green hat.

All the gals were dressed to the hilt. Our new member, Ruth (from Konocti Kuties) had on a blouse she sewed; first sewing try in 20 years she said and it was purple with red hats on it! Just darling! Lynne, as always, looked swell too in her purple and red hat!

Queen Shady Ladybug was the only one
brave enough to wear GREEN hair
on St. Pat's Day! ...I have 4 bottles of green hair spray for sale....for Halloween maybe?

I really appreciate how GREAT all you gals look; I am a very proud Queen! Still, I think we have the "shorties" of all the chapters, and also THE CLASSIEST LADIES IN THE COUNTY! I'm so glad I have you in my chapter.

MARCH 11, FRIDAY: JAVA EXPRESS, OPEN MIKE was at 7pm, 14624 Lakeshore Dr., Clearlake...We joined Queen Karen/Clear Lake Diamond Red Hats (of which there were five). From our chapter, there was just Lady Ida Mae and myself.
There were local musicians and singers that we really enjoyed (especially the original gospel music). Several in the audience read original poems.
First up was Lady Chaz (the beauty shop owner there in the mall)and one of Karen's chapter members.
She did a recitation and singing of "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?" song, along with doggie puppets and the works. Wow, she was brave!
Queen Karen, myself, Diane, and our Lady Ida Mae were up on stage together afterward and Queen Karen made the intoductory speech about what the RED HATS are all about; I read the "Warning, When I am Old I Shall Wear Purple" poem; Princess Diane read the answer poem, from Sue Ellen; and Ida Mae bravely recited our sacred chapter pledge, and we both shouted AMEN at the end........."and that calls for a nip of gin! Amen!"
WATCH FOR US ON CHANNEL 8 - OUR LOCAL STATION. We had no idea they were filming us to be on t.v. until AFTER we performed.
They shut down the place at 9:30pm even though there were more performers lined up.
I was thinking that I might volunteer to close up on those monthly Open Mikes for the owner, so we could all stay a little later!
It was MUCH TOO SHORT! I enjoyed it a lot! They have these Open Mikes there EVERY SECOND FRIDAY OF THE MONTH! If at all possible, I am GOING again EVERY month!
Thanks, Linda

THE HARBOR RESTAURANT LUNCHEON,
MONDAY, MARCH 7: THANK YOU, Lady Double D (Lynne) for being a "Triple D" at our luncheon!
(Designated Driver & Digital photographer).

What a scrumptious lunch we had at on the patio overlooking Clear Lake! The house salad with crumbled bleu cheese was the best I've had (in Lake County), and those red print fabric napkins they furnished gave our table some real flair.

Left to rt.- Pat,Jan, Lynne, Queen, and "Babe"
on a sunny, beautiful day in March, 2005.

The umbrella attached to our picnic table gave shade on a sunny day, and we had a special Austrailian waitress for our table.

Lunch on the lake, Harbor Restaurant in Nice.

This turned out to be a fun hoot for the six of us; Lynne, Babe, Pat D., Jan. S. a guest and potential member, Marsha B., and myself. I hope you enjoyed the games we played (The Red Hatters are Right On! and 20 Questions for gals over 50!)
Incidentally, the prizes were donated by myself, and the "entry fees of one or two bucks per game amounted to $15.00 which will be going into a fund toward a future swim party overnighter.

Lady Babe wins the prize gift!

The only glinch in the day was that Lady Double D overshot the restaurant, and we were almost to Robinson's Rancheria before she declared that I was the navigator, much to my surprise!
Heck, I figured she knew where the restaurant was, because she's been here since 1954. Sure, she'd been there before, but that didnt mean she could find it again. After all, we ARE seniors and might be inclined to be a little forgetful sometimes.
Anyhow, I enjoyed the day immensely, and hope everyone else did too.

Feb. 27, 2005,
The HORNBLOWER CHAMPAGNE/LUNCHEON CRUISE was $47 per person and the ship departed at 11am, as scheduled for a 1-1/2 hour ride.
The array of food was scrumptious, along with champagne glasses
kept full the entire trip, by our gracious waiter.

The "brunch" was buffet style and all you could eat,
which consisted of prime rib, scrambled eggs, potatoes, crouissants, fruit,
ham, salmon, sausages, bacon, Caesar salad, Belgian waffles
with strawberries & whipped cream, syrup, biscuits,
and other salads. It was just wonderful!
There was a lady singing and playing the piano for us
throughout the cruise, and there was no fog that day,
so we had beautiful views.
I loved every minute of it, as did everyone else.
You can see in the photos who all went on this event, and we will find out later
why Lois and Jerry did not make it aboard, as we
were expecting them! Hope everything is okay with them!

The evening before the cruise, Stew and I spent the night in San Francisco,
and we had agreed to meet Georgia and her husband Dave at 5pm at
the Tonga Room in the Fairmont Hotel.
After waiting until 7pm and they still hadn't showed up!

I WONDER WHERE THE HELL THEY ARE?

we left and went across the street to the Top of the Mark and
enjoyed a couple of cocktails there before dining.
(We later found out that Georgia decided to take her dog for a two hour walk, instead of meeting us).
We went on to BOBO'S Steak House on Lombard St. next to our hotel and the food was fantastic! A little expensive at $35 per person, but well worth it, and we met some great people there to chat with.
Sunday, everyone else went on home, but Stew and I went went to the 4pm matinee showing of BEACH BLANKET BABYLON stage
show, and I cannot tell you enough how great it was!
We laughed and laughed.....

...and laughed some more.

(Tickets were
$45.00 each and they serve coffee, soda, and chocolate bars,
but not Girardelli for some reason). Afterward, we strolled down
to O'Reilly's Irish restaurant for some ale and dinner. Even though
it was raining, we sat under the awning before dinner and had our dark ale and smokes.
What a fun time! We had a great cab driver who took us down the
"crookedest street" on the way to the stage show.

Stew and I both agreed we have to go to San Francisco for the weekend, at least
every 3 months from now on. There is just SO much to do,
and here we are native Californian's and haven't seen it all yet!

Feb.27 - Cruising in San Francisco Bay on the Hornblower
left to rt.: Jay, Ellen, Terry, Linda
Georgia, Dave, Yvonne, Gary.

Luckily, Gentleman Jay held the Queen's
hat on, while she tried to light a cig!

Here's Ellen at smoke break time!
We HAD to take our red hats off,
or risk losing them!

What a great photo Georgia took....
as we were cruising under the Golden Gate!

I think I REALLY DID leave my heart in San Francisco!
NOTES TO MYSELF: We stayed at THE TRAVELODGE BY THE BAY, 1450 Lombard St. phone:
(415) 673-0691 and would stay there again (if we take our dog)as pets are welcome! The room was only $67 + tax and $6.00 parking fee + $21.00 a nite for our dog Bobby.
There are NO SMOKING ROOMS at all though!

Next time, if we get a dogsitter, another good place to stay is the YORK HOTEL 940 Sutter St.......$69.00 for one
night per couple, Feb. 26, Saturday.Rate does not include parking fee.
For reservations, call 1-800-808-9675. This is a non-smoking hotel.
There is a great lounge there that used to be a speakeasy
called Empire Plush Room, and they still have cabaret shows there too.
They feature 8 oz. martinis. (Be sure to pack your aspirin to take with you).
This is the old hotel where Alfred Hitchcock
filmed the movie "Vertigo" in room 501,
starring Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart.

FEBRUARY 16th SISTERHOOD EVENT: We joined the newest Red Hat chapter Lake County for a fun lunch at BROOKLYNZ RESTAURANT on Lakeshore Dr. formerly Wiseda's Resort).
First, we went to Queen Dazzling Diamond Karen's home at 11am on East Lake Dr. in Clearlake. Their chapter name is Clear Lake Diamond Red Hatters.
Prior to this lunch event, I met with her and her Vice Mother Janet for a coffee clatch at Java Mall one day and they are both really fine ladies. Some of you had met them at the Monday lunch at The Grotto this month, already.

Here's Ida Mae looking gorgeous
in her fur and red hat!

Princess Rose Marie from San Dimas visited our chapter for lunch, and brought out her suitcase of hats and accessories that she sold to us for a great price! The back room of Brooklynz was reserved for 30 and we filled it up, and were able to order from the menu at a group price of $10 per person, including tip and tax. Several of our gals got a new red hat for only $12.00, as I did, along with a red feather boa for $8.00. What a bargain! There were also 4 members of the Clearlake Riviera chapter at the luncheon, along with us.

Visiting Vice Queen
Roberta, of the
Riviera Rubies Chapter In K'ville, in center
with two of her members. 05

We gained 3 new members at this gathering, that I was expecting, who are Pat D., Lynne G. and "Babe", who all live out in the Pirate's Cove area.
Princess Rosemarie's husband was there as the photographer! He took all of these photos.

to have visit us!
She said she'd been a red hatter about 5 years, I believe, and now has 45 RED HATS!!

Princess Rose Marie visiting
from San Dimas, California

For my records, or anyone else's, her email is princessrosemarie@earthlink.net. I truly enjoyed my visit with her, and she was so sweet to gift me, as the queen, a beautiful bracelet with red hats on it.
OUR MEMBERSHIP TOTALS 18 RED HAT LADIES, AS OF 02/16/05 !

FEBRUARY 20 EVENT
This was a 3pm matinee event, at the Lower Lake Museum & Theatre, with local talented actors and actresses performing the comedy play, BUSTOP, which originally was a old movie starring Marilyn Monroe. I've got to rent that one now, to see how Marilyn did it.
Tickets were $10 to $12 per person through the local chamber.
There were over 20 in attendance, and a surprise new chapter that I encountered there. Their queen is Pat S.of Sizzlin' Senior Moments, but she could not remember her new queen name ......you guessed it, because she was having a senior moment! Everyone there sure looked cute in their red (and pink) hats and we created quite a visible presence! We were able to all sit in the same section together, and broke for a cigarette break on the stairs at intermission.
Vice Mother Georgia brought her two sisters as guests (from Washington state) and Ida Mae brought her friend Cynthia. About the play performances...they were SPECTACULAR and very professional, just excellent, we all thought. It's a really cute comedy play, so if you get a chance, go to see it, DO! There are more performances this month!
After the performance, our chapter met at the John Henry Saloon in Lower Lake for a brew.

Here we are having fun again.........Left to rt.: Georgia, Ellen, Jan S., Queen Linda, Carol, Linda, Cynthia, Ida Mae, Vicky

Some chapter members had Manhattans
but some had beer instead,
The Queen went home quite early,
to put some ice on her head!
(See my poem "THE PARTY" on this site, if you want to know why.)

Those in our chapter that attended were as follows: Queen Linda, Vice Mother Georgia, Ellen, Jan, Ida Mae, Carol H., and of course, Georgia's two sisters (Linda and Vicky) and Ida's friend, Cynthia.

Lady bug, lady bug, fly back home,
You left your red hat and your stove is still on!!!

I might leave my stove on,
but I NEVER forget my red hat!!! Queen Shady Ladybug, Feb.7, 05 luncheon

LUNCH GATHERING: Howard's Grotto, Feb. 7, 2005 Monday 1:30pm
CLEAR LAKE MINNOW-PAUSERS
Well, there was a pretty darned good turnout for a short notice event; those who were present were Marcia, Ellen, Linda, Lois, Ida, new member Jan S., and also, our guests Queen Karen and her Vice Mother Janet, the newest chapter in Clearlake, a total of 8.

Here's Vice Queenie King, Jan on far left,
then Lady Jester-Hysterian Ellen,
and new member Lady Jan S. that Ellen brought into our chapter.

Our table was set up in the bar area, and we had a great waitress, Sharon K. who will might be a future member of our chapter. The red hatters have several rounds of drinks (some Manhattans, I saw), but the Queen drank merely black coffee, so she could keep her hat on straight.

Queen Dazzling Diamond (Karen)
and her Queen Mother, Queenie King (Jan),
joined us at The Grotto.

We got there at 1:30pm, but we did so much gabbing and having fun that I dont think we ate until about 3pm and left about 4pm. Of course, us smokers had to go for our smoke breaks out in back too, intermittently.

I was fresh out of cigars that day though.....

Lady Chat Lover
MARCIA

Lady Ida Mae

Lucky Lottery Lady
Lois

We had a drawing for a PRIZE, at $2.00 per ticket, which helped to reimburse me for the cost of the prize gift, which was a Red Hat Society watch with purple feathers for a band, that I got from the Red Hat Society shopping site. Lois........LUCKY Lottery Lois, was the winner of the watch, and she loved it. All the others professed that THEY JUST HAD TO HAVE ONE TOO! Marcia whipped out her Purple Perks card and said she was gonna get one asap,on her new computer......a WIRELESS one.
Marcia brought some newspaper items she had saved about what our local wineries have to offer and plans are in the works for an April gathering at one of OUR OWN. Fetzer and Tulip wineries are suggested and they do serve lunch; maybe only sometimes. She will check it out.
Queen Shady Ladybug brought out the five beaded Cleopatra headress caps that she had bought in Mexico, and let the girls there pick their colors. After all, the price was good enough in Mexico (5 for $20.00). Just too bad that is all they had that would fit, as some were for children. (Anyhow, she just gave them to the members as a gift, just because she wanted to). Some of the members prefer to buy a deluxe model like the Queen has, which they have on Ebay for $29.95. Anyway, we all put on our beaded "hair" and our bartender Sharon and the patrons there though we looked great! (Or so they said). Our chapter will be very unique because we have the beaded hairpieces to wear under our hats. Everyone looked so damn CUTE in them. Ellen got the only red one, and it looked really good with her blonde hair and her cute purple bedroom slippers with white hearts on them..........and her red panty hose.
Gosh, she is such a funny jester. She begged forgiveness for not wearing her JESTER HAT the Queen gave her and apologized for not having a joke to tell, but gee whiz, just the slippers were a joke in themselves. Ahhhhhhhhh that gal is brave. She is one of the 3 Libra gals we have in our chapter, the others being LOIS and IDA MAE. Ida Mae professed to me that she was a true "airhead" (her mother said) and I assured her she is NOT.... (but you know we all need to consider the source). I might be one myself, and not know she really is one??
Gosh, this is getting lengthy, but wait, I also wanted to say that Marcia got a convertible PT CRUISER and I truly think she should be fined for that. Our Seargent in Arms, Pat Reed, was not there today though, so we could not enforce that. Oh, how I wanted a PT Cruiser, but my husband said the engine is not big enough for him. Crap.
Anyhow, Marcia said she will be our photographer in the future, so that's great! She took a lot of photos today that we will post on the site soon as she gets them to me. (As soon as she figures out how to EMAIL!) HELLLL-L-L-L-O.......... HA HA!
I must say, I was so happy we had such a great turnout, but, since I was the only one who was going into the dining room to get the salad bar.......I felt RIDICULOUS in my purple outfit, but guess what? By 3pm, not a soul was in the dining room! Hell, I could have stolen all the salt and pepper shakers if I needed to. Damn.
Ellen was lucky she had a ride after her few cocktails; she had lunch with her hubby Jay before we got there, but he left her and came back to get her at 4pm. What a NICE husband!
As for me, I got a lot of laughs today about many things. Maybe the corker was when Marcia said she was going to Petaluma the first week of each month to be a caregiver for her ex-husband. I had to start laughing, relating it to Desperate Housewives that I saw the re- run of last night about the gal that was taking care of HER ex- husband. It just struck my funny bone, that's all.
All in all.......... it was a wonderful 'HOOT' as they call it in the Red Hat Society language.

*************************************
Dec. 11, 2004 was a great outing locally here!
There were 11 people for dinner, and 7 went to the concert afterward at Robinson's Rancheria. I must be honest and say I was not that impressed with the food at the Harbor Restaurant and neither was anyone else, but, hey, with all that champagne, wine and drinks flowingly freely, and the clinking of the glasses doing CHEERS, we didn't notice the food was less than fantastic. I kid you not, these "beatles", called RAIN, had every inflection of each Beatles tune, down to a science, and their musicianship was TOTALLY awesome. EXACTLY, and I mean, EXACTLY like the Beatles tunes. They did 1 1/2 hour show that left us breathless at the end....and a little hoarse from all the audience participation doing our YEEEEOHs and RIGHTons. The costumes they wore were beautiful, including the Sargeant Pepper's band outfits they had on. (Different wig changes, and the whole 9 yards). We inducted a new member last night also named Yvonne, and she is new to the area from Marin/San Francisco, and works in real estate in Middletown. At times, I couldn't watch The "Beatles" performing because the lip locks Yvonne and Gary were in sitting next to me were more interesting and heartwarming at times! Just kidding! We did induct her into the club, and Ida Mae pulled out her flask to top it off, after we got her to say the SACRED PLEDGE. She seemed a little surprised, but gulped it right down....well, we all had to have a welcome nip with her.
DEC. 11 EVENT: THE CHAMPAGNE AND NIPS OF GIN WERE FLOWING FREELY .... DINNER and an evening with THE BEATLES (almost Beatles anyway)....

Anyhow, we had a grand time, and sorry all of you could not make it to this event. We felt as if we were in Vegas or somewhere like that, and enjoyed some gambling, of course, after the show. Arrived home after midnight, full and satisfied, at having a wonderful time.

NOVEMBER 11 2004 KONOCTI CASINO OUTING....The November 11th event at Konocti Vista Casino was lots of fun but we figured out the lady bartender there pours with a very heavy hand, and unfortunately caused the Queen to forget to take care of business matters. It sure was a blast though!

Riding high in the Dec04
Christmas parade in Clearlake!
Left to rt.- Queen,Georgia, Marcia, Pat, Ida Mae, Lois....
Some wore fur coats, as it was 28 degrees COLD!
AFTER THE PARADE, we all went to Queen Shady Ladybug's home and had a gift exchange Christmas party.

The queen wears red with purple
hat because it's her birthday month!

Dec.04 Xmas party & gift exchange
at Queen's home. Several brought their flasks!! Left to rt.- Pat R., Marcia, Queen, Georgia, & Ida.
Ellen arrived later, and Lois left early, so they are missing from this photo.
Riding high in a "boat float" belonging to the Vice Mother, we sang along with "Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer" blasting loudly. Penny L. of the Lower Lake Red Hat chapter loaned us her purple flowers and purple netting to decorate the boat with. Saved us a lot of money we don't have yet in our "face lift fund".
