DO YOU EVER STRUGGLE.....
|
THE SOLUTIONS ARE EASY...AND HERE! Your struggles are over, and it's easier than you think. Did you know that presenting, speaking, thinking on your feet, and listening are processes? What does that mean for you? Simply, if they're a process, they can be learned! Toastmasters helps men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking - vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment of mankind. Can such lofty goals be fun to achieve? At Club 417 the answer is a resounding "YES"! You may have heard that the number 1 fear of most people isn't death, it's public speaking! That would mean that at a funeral, they would rather be the "dearly departed" than the one giving the eulogy! What's up with that? It isn't very long before brand-new members are feeling a lot more confident as they realize they have mastered some skills that even TV newspeople and politicians haven't figured out. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Features Speech (Humorous)
Brion Kidder, our past President: Brion inherited a corrupt, disgruntled and unhappy board from Dory Siman. There was graft, favoritism, and even special favors. Brion cleaned house . . . and brought peace, serenity and fewer special favors.
Doug Tummond, our past Treasurer: Doug was aggressive in collecting dues, issuing reports and . . . managing the club’s money. He couldn’t be paid off or corrupted, unless with donuts, and he actually ended the term with a surplus of $11.39, which he told me had nothing to do with Tuesday night poker or his honey do list for Wednesday mornings.
Lisa Holiday, our past Secretary: Lisa not only brought visual beauty to the job, but she actually kept timely, accurate and somewhat legible notes – much to the chagrin of those of us giving Bone speeches or trying to skip ahead a few speeches and obtain a CTM.
Our former Vice President of Education, Pat Gilbert: Pat made the monthly schedule and, with it, brought about a new level of creativity, terror, and increased readership. Sometimes you found not only that you were Toastmaster, but also giving a speech and evaluating. Or, better yet . . . how about the frequent, periodic weekly updates, sometimes daily updates. Or, the ones I like, the night before your meetings . . . updates.
Our Sergeant at Arms, Brian Burris: Brian has been Sergeant of Arms for as long as I can remember. Brian should be commended for his dedication to getting up at 4:30 a.m. every Wednesday morning and setting-up the room in a precise, practical and perfect manner. Plus, his uncanny ability to improvise and fit our meetings into one of the closet sized rooms the church forces on us during one of their fundraisers for their on-going charities.
Our Vice President of Public Relations, Larry Gassin: I’d like to thank Larry for his polished, people pleasing prose and promised plethora of possibilities.
And lastly, or course, yours truly as Vice President of Membership: I took a club that was losing members (about 2 a month) and turned it around with an average of 0.185 new members per meeting. The proof can be seen with Ubalodo, Luis, Leo, Joe, Jeff, Brian, Lisa . . . the list goes on. I also pioneered and perfected the, “No Excuse for an Icebreaker Speech,” by e-mailing the manual sections that describe and outline the icebreaker to a new member. I will be glad to pass this copyrighted feature down to our new veep.
