 During the meeting
If you're wondering what goes on during a Toastmaster's meeting, here is a brief flow of how we do it:
- Meeting comes to order; we recite the pledge of allegiance and the mission of the club.
- The Toastmaster of the day introduces the different functionaries (like the grammarian, the timer, etc.), and asks each of them to explain their role.
- The Table Topics master comes up and calls on various members to speak from 1 to 2 minutes each on different random topics.
- Members vote for who they thought gave the best Table Topics response.
- About a 5-minute break for coffee and donuts.
- The Toastmaster introduces the first evaluator, who comes to the lectern to explain the objectives of the first speaker's prepared speech project.
- The first evaluator introduces the first speaker, who comes up to deliver the speech, generally about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Subsequent evaluators and speakers come forward; most meetings have two or three prepared speeches.
- Members vote for the best speaker.
- The Toastmaster introduces the evaluators in turn to deliver their evaluations of the speakers, and offer constructive criticism.
- Members vote for the best evaluator.
- The Toastmaster announces the winners, who each receive a ribbon for their collection.
- The President returns to the lectern to cover any club business, and then we're adjourned.
