PACKING LIST Former Den Leader Keith Campbell put together a comprehensive packing list (click to download) which you can use for your Scout's camping trips. It is intended as a guide and should be modified to fit the particular trip that you are participating in. You should add or remove items based on weather, location & activities.
MISPLACED YOUR HANDBOOK? It happens all the time - you're trying to check the requirements for an achievement or an elective, and you can't find your Scout's handbook. No problem! Just check the "Links" section of this website for online information for all Cub Scout levels, as well as for the Academics and Sports Program and other special awards.
MONTHLY ROUNDTABLES All Pack leaders - or anyone interested in taking on a leadership or volunteer role - should attend the California Inland Empire Council Roundtable on the second Wednesday of each month, 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the LDS Stake Building, 3600 Norconian Drive, Norco. Roundtables are monthly informational meetings run in each District. They provide leaders with information and ideas for the next month's theme, as well as activities, games and hints to be used in upcoming meetings. Training on a variety of topics is provided. For your convenience, the training offered during the Roundtables takes considerably less time than comparable sessions offered independently (for example, an hour or so at a Wednesday Roundtable, versus four hours on a Saturday). Every Scout deserves a TRAINED leader!
PACK FEE and BSA RECHARTER FEE Each year in the fall, returning Scouts pay their yearly Pack Fee and a Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Recharter/Membership Fee. Pack Fees are $50 per year. Pack Fees primarily pay for the Scouts' awards, patches, belt loops, pins and more. Most of the BSA Recharter/Membership fee goes directly to BSA (which includes insurance for the Scouts). The following is a breakdown of BSA Fees per Scout:
(*The pack covers these expenses for our adult volunteers. It varies according to the number of volunteers.) In addition to the Pack Fees and BSA Fees, each den may collect dues to cover their materials and activities (typically $3-$5 per month.) Also remember that our fundraisers and corporate donations go toward other pack expenses, so please participate in all of our fundraisers to keep our expenses low. If registration fees or dues are ever a financial hardship, please don't hesitate to contact a member of the Pack Committee. We would never want a Scout to stop participating because of financial concerns. On another financial note, if anyone works for a company which would like to support our pack, we always welcome donations! Sponsorship forms are available and we have a nonprofit number we can provide, just ask a Pack Committee Member for details.
ADOPTED TRAIL Our pack has adopted the Torrey Pines hiking trail in the Chino Hills City Trails Division! The trail begins in Torrey Pines Park and winds up the hill behind Albertson's. All our dens takes turns hiking it once a month to make sure it is clean, free of graffiti, and in good shape. Each den is responsible for the Torrey Pines trail the same month that it is Color Guard at our pack meeting (see calendar of events). Torrey Pines Park is located at 5011 Torrey Pines Drive, just off Los Serranos Country Club Drive. The park covers one acre and features a horse staging area, a covered picnic area with barbecues, and restrooms. You can liven up your hike with some walking songs, like this one: Pick It Up,Pack It Out If you see some litter hiking, pick it up! (shout: Pack it out!) |
