COMMUNICATE Many leadership sbnafus can be traced back to a simple misunderstanding. Misunderstandings are almost inevitable, but you can reduce the opportunity by using the following tips: -Return phone calls and messages promptly -Don't make assumptions-Ask -E-Mail messages can be easily misunderstood. Instead of reacting to an e-mail message, pick up the phone and discuss the message to ensure understanding. -Don't respond in the heat of the moment. Take some time to put things in perspective. -Be willing to listen! Invite feedback-just as evaluations are necessary to grow as a speaker, feedback is important to grow as a leader. A LEADER'S MOST IMPORTANT COMMUNICATION SKILL IS THE ABILITY TO LISTEN
