Class projects ![]() Flat Stanley Visits the White House Flat Stanley Project Dear Parents: Our class read a book called Flat Stanley. It is a story about a boy named Stanley who was accidentally flattened by a bulletin board. He was not hurt…in fact he didn’t even feel it. This new shape allowed him to do many fun things. One of those things was being folded up and mailed to visit a friend in another part of the country. I would like your child to pick a family friend or relative that lives in another city, state or country to whom they can mail their Flat Stanley. The person receiving Flat Stanley is to take him around their hometown and show him the sights as if he were a real person on vacation. They should keep a journal or a diary of all of the places Flat Stanley visited and how he liked his daily activities. They should also take pictures of Flat Stanley visiting different locations. Some may even want to make a scrapbook of his trip. The family that receives him should “pretend” that he is on vacation and write about his trip accordingly. Please mail a copy of this letter, the letter written by your child, and Flat Stanley to the person of your choice as soon as possible. Flat Stanley should spend about one week “away on vacation”. When the trip is over, Flat Stanley should be mailed back to your child along with the journal and pictures so your child can bring it to class and to share the project with their classmates. We will be finding the places that Flat Stanley visited on a map of the world, and it will be part of a geography lesson to create world awareness. Flat Stanley, the pictures and journal entries should be returned to school no later than Tuesday, June 3, 2008. You may turn the project in earlier if you like. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at school. Thank you for supporting your child’s education. Sincerely, Ida Donaghho |
