Life in First Grade

This week we will read a story called The Sleeping Pig. It is a story about a pig that won’t leave a watermelon patch and many animals try to shoo him away. We will focus on the long o in spelling and phonics. In language, we will review nouns, contractions and story stucture/elements. We’ll also practice writing and editing sentences. In math we will continue practicing subtraction math facts. We’ll have a test on Friday. We will begin a chapter on counting and number patterns to 100 as we get ready to celebrate our 100th day of school. In religion we will continue to learn about the importance of our faith and our Parish and we’ll also learn about love as an action. In social studies we will continue learning about groups of people and how we are alike and different. We’ll also learn about Abraham Lincoln and the office of the president. In science we will continue a unit on the weather and seasons and work in the garden.
