"A Friendly Letter from a Famous Sculptor" In the Winter of 1936 - 1937, Viquesney published this 4-page newsletter, a more folksy version than his formal brochure on the previous page, and which this time wisely omitted products that didn't sell, like his "Over the Top" version of his Doughboy, an unabashed ripoff of the title used by his now-dead contemporary sculptor John Paulding, and his Memorial to the Women of the Confederacy, an idea which he again "borrowed" from another dead sculptor, John Walz, creator of a similarly posed marble grouping in Rome, GA. Viquesney devoted a full page to his "fail-proof" fundraiser plan, designed to help small communities raise the money to obtain their Doughboy statue. ![]() Page 1 of 4 ![]() Page 2 of 4 ![]() Page 3 of 4 ![]() Page 4 of 4 |
