With the coming of World War II, Viquesney again produced a memorial to the U. S. infantryman with this 1943 creation, The Spirit of the Fighting Yank. It was never as widely placed as The Spirit of the American Doughgoy from a generation earlier, occurring in only five known locations (Chicago, IL; Port Huron, MI; Oil City, PA; Belmont, NC; and a stone version at Bloomington, IN). It was also produced in miniature, along with other WWII tributes to the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It was Viquesney's last large monument produced before his death. His actual last piece, Comrades, can be seen on the next page.
