***NEW***IN DAYS LONG PAST BUS TRIP.. MAY 12, 2012 IN DAYS LONG PAST ~HISTORICAL~ 1899 COLONIAL HOUSE AND A 1864 CIVIL WAR GREEK MANSION MAY 12, 2012 - SATURDAY ![]() BANNING MANSION
Red Hatters start their journey at the MULLER HOUSE, this two-story Colonial house was built in 1899 by a local shipbuilder. It was owned by the Muller's from 1906 to 1963, when they donated it to the San Pedro Bay Historical Society, who refurbished it and now operates it. It is furnished as a family home to reflect the style of the 1920's. After enjoying the Muller House, we head on over to TOKYO WAKO, for a fun teppan-style lunch. You'll take a Red Hat seat at one of the Teppanyaki tables for a deliciously entertaining meal. Teppanyaki is a form of Japanese cooking over a flat griddle where the skill of the chef is on display at your table. As we travel onward, and just for the fun of it, and for those that have never done so, we will cross over "San Pedro's Golden Gate", the Vincent Thomas Bridge. This is a 1,500-foot (460 m) long suspension bridge, opened in 1963, crossing the Los Angeles Harbor in the U.S. state of California, linking San Pedro, Los Angeles, with Terminal Island. The bridge is signed as part of State Route 47. It is named for California Assemblyman Vincent Thomas of San Pedro. It is the fourth longest suspension bridge in California. It is also the bridge with the 76th longest span in the world. The clear height of the navigation channel is approximately 185 ft.[1] After crossing the Vincent Thomas Bridge, we are off to the BANNING HOUSE, this exquisitely-restored Greek Revival mansion built in 1864 features an extensive collection of Victorian decorative arts and furnishings. As you enter you will experience the elegance of the Victorian era as you tour the 23 room mansion which has been restored to reflect the eclectic nature of a home lived in by several generations. Highlights of the tour are the General's office, the parlor where he entertained friends and colleagues, a formal dining room complete with fine China and crystal, a Victorian kitchen and the private quarters. The museum is located in a 20-acre park. Explore the mansion, a one-room schoolhouse and a stagecoach barn. ![]() COST OF TRIP $73.00 ~ Open to 38 participants ~ COST OF TRIP COVERS: PAYMENTS ACCEPTABLE • GUIDED TOUR OF THE MULLER HOUSE • LUNCH AT TOKYO WAKO • CROSS OVER THE VINCENT THOMAS BRIDGE. • GUIDED TOUR OF THE BANNING HOUSE • ROUNDTRIP TRANSPORTATION VIA DELUXE MOTORCOACH • TIP TO DRIVER • DOOR PRIZES AND A SNACK 1.
