The truth is, when someone says they have been hacked, they mean someone "guessed" their password or they accidentally gave their password to a scammer. Neopets has never been hacked, and there is no way anyone can get in to the neopets database and "magically find your password". With the help of these safety precautions, we hope your account stays safe.

DO NOT give your password to ANYONE ever! Even if they give you a story saying they will give you thousands of neopoints...and that they need your password, do not do it! No one needs your password for anything!

Don't enter random neopians shop contests unless you know them and know that they actually give the prizes out. Some people say "Spend 99,999np and win this" but they dont really give anything out.

Its best not to enter any competitions unless they are run by the Neopets Team if you are worried about scammers. Just make sure you are sure what's real and what's not!

People who offer codes to get like 100,000NP are scammers. Don't give them anything!!! There are no codes for things like that on Neopets!!! Don't give items to people begging for money. You can help them just not in that way. Try telling them ways to earn neopoints and items.

Log off after playing Neopets so that no one else can access your account from that computer. Dont use Neositters. Neositters need your password so they can access your account. Dont give it to them. Its a lot likely that they are scammers and will just take your account. If you need to go away and your pets need looking after I suggest going to the Neopian NeoLodge and putting them there. This way your pets will stay happy, safe and won't get hungry.

Sometimes when you go to a shop and click on an item it takes you to a fake login screen. Make sure the URL at the top is www.neopets.com not something strange. If you enter your password in a fakelogin screen you are giving the person your account! If you have entered your password, quickly change your password by going to the "Help" section.

Never ever trust anyone who says to change your email address to something other than your own. This will give them your password because all they have to do is type your screen name and your password is sent to the address they told you to enter - which is most likely THEIRS!

Never give anyone the url of your NeoDrive. This is giving them access to your account as well!!!

If someone says they have been hacked because someone hacked into Neopets and found their password, it is untrue. No one has ever and no one can hack into the Neopets database. If someone has had their account stolen, its probably because they were scammed and gave their password away. It is maybe that someone found their password and changed their password in the account.

Make your password REALLY difficult. Make it have lower case AND upper case letters and numbers. Make it a word that is NOT related to you and NOT in the dictionary. Something like bUgeA5wAA5 which is really hard.
