Adoption Policies It is the policy of our organization to require a donation when adopting a cat or kitten. The amount of that donation varies and is based upon several factors, including the breed of the animal, care required, length of time in rescue, etc. We use the following chart as a guideline:
All animals placed are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and tested. Additional care is provided as needed to ensure the health of each animal. To the best of our knowledge, all the animals we show at our adoption events are in good health. About Your Donation…. Our organization is funded only by private donations and staffed 100% by volunteers. Your donation helps to pay for veterinarian bills, feeding costs, preventive vaccinations, sterilization and other costs associated with the care of these animals. We endeavor to match a prospective owner’s personality and environmental requirements with those of each cat. Because of this effort, we reserve the right to carefully screen our applicants and to refuse placement if a suitable match cannot be made. We do a basic interview to get to know you so that we can best match you up with the right cat. There is a contract to be signed once the right cat for your home has been found. The adopter gets a copy of the contract, along with other medical records when the adoption is finalized. Please be patient as the adoption process may take some time, we are trying to get to know you so that we can guide you to the right cat with the right temperment for your household. Please ensure that the whole family is in agreement with the adoption and if you are a renter that you have the approval of your landlord. If the adoption does not work out Happy Strays will take the cat back at any time, however the donation will only be refunded during the first 2 weeks after adoption We are a 501(C)3 Non-profit and all donations are tax deductible. Paperwork provided on request.
Basic Care provided for each cat: Each cat is given FVRCP shots, tested for FELV/FIV (if under 6 months kittens are tested for FELV only - FIV test is not valid until cat is 6 months old), spay or neutered, treated for fleas and earmites, treated for worms. Additional treatment is provided as needed to ensure the health of the cat/kitten.
