Requirements For Promotion
SEAMAN RECRUIT (E-1)
- Assigned to all new cadets entered into the program
SEAMAN APPRENTICE (E-2)
- Be a member of the unit for two months
- Minimum PRT score of 80
- Have a satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Pass written test on chain of command
- Pass practical test on basic stationary drill
SEAMAN (E-3)
- Be a Seaman Apprentice for two months
- Minimum PRT score of 100
- Have satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Pass written test on the 11 general orders, chain of command, and military time
- Pass practical test on manual of arms while stationary and marching
- Passing score on uniform and drill of 70% or higher
PETTY OFFICER THIRD CLASS (E-4)
- Be a Seaman for three months
- Minimum PRT score of satisfactory
- Have satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Pass written test on the 11 general orders, chain of command, and military time
- Pass practical test on manual of arms while stationary and marching
- Passing score on uniform and drill of 70% or higher
PETTY OFFICER SECOND CLASS (E-5)
- Be enrolled in Naval Science II or above
- Be a Petty Officer Third Class for three months
- Minimum PRT score of satisfactory
- Have satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Pass written test on 11 general orders, chain of command, military time, and naval rank structure
- Pass practical test on Drill with Guidon
- Passing score on uniform and drill of 75% or higher
- Satisfactory completion of job assigned to cadet (Must have a collateral duty)
PETTY OFFICER FIRST CLASS (E-6)
- Be enrolled in Naval Science II or above
- Be a Petty Officer Second Class for three months
- Have satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Minimum PRT score of satisfactory
- Pass written test on the 11 general orders, chain of command, military time, naval rank and structure, and phonetic alphabet
- Pass practical test on Leading Platoon in Drill and Basic Color Guard Drill
- Passing score on uniform and drill of 80% or higher
- Satisfactory completion of job assigned to cadet (Must have a collateral duty)
CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (E-7)
- Be enrolled in Naval Science II or above
- Be a Petty Officer First Class for three months
- Have satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Minimum PRT score of Satisfactory
- Pass written test on 11 general orders, chain of command, military time, naval rank and structure, phonetic alphabet, and Naval ship designations
- Pass practical test on Leading Platoon in Drill with weapons
- Have earned Exemplary Personal Appearance Ribbon
- Have earned Color Guard and Participation Ribbon
- Satisfactory completion of job assigned to cadet (Must have a collateral duty)
- Be recommended by Naval Science Instructors
SENIOR CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (E-8)
- Be enrolled in Naval Science III or above
- Be a Chief Petty Officer for four months
- Have satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Minimum PRT score of satisfactory
- Pass written test on 11 general orders, chain of command, military time, naval rank and structure, phonetic alphabet, Naval ship designations, and cadet advancement
- Have earned Physical Fitness, Recruiting, Community Sertvice, and Unit Service Ribbons
- Satisfactory completion of job assigned to cadet (Must have a collateral duty)
- Be recommended by Naval Science Instructors
- Must be a Junior or Senior
MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER (E-9)
- Be enrolled in Naval Science III or above
- Be a Senior Chief Petty Officer for four months
- Have satisfactory citizenship in all classes
- Minimum PRT score of satisfactory
- Pass written test on 11 general orders, chain of command, military time, naval rank and structure, phonetic alphabet, Naval ship designations, cadet advancement, and nautical terms
- Satisfactory completion of job assigned to cadet (Must have a collateral duty)
- Be recommended by Naval Science Instructors
- Must be a Junior or Senior
ENSIGN
- Be enrolled in Naval Science III or above
- Overall GPA in school of 2.5 or higher
- Must have completed all requirements for enlisted ranks
- PRT score of Good or higher
- Pass uniform inspection in all uniforms
- Satisfactory pass oral board with Cadet CO, NSI, and SNSI
- Pass practical test of sword manual stationary and while driling a platoon
- Must be willing to accept a position of leadership
LIEUTENANT (Junior Grade)
- Be enrolled in Naval SCience III or above
- Overall GPA in School of 2.5 or higher
- PRT score of Excellent or higher
- Satisfactory pass oral board of Cadet CO, NSI, and SNSI
- Must be willing to accept a position of leadership
CADET STAFF OFFICER
- Some outstanding cadets who show leadership potential will be selected for staff positions and advanced to the temporary rank of Ensign or higher befitting their billet. Temporary ranks can be made permanent by completing all advancement requirements for that grade.
- Cadet Staff Officers will be selected by the Cadet CO, NSI, and SNSI.
- Cadet Staff Officers must maintain passing grades in all classes
- Cadet Staff Officers must obtain at least a satisfactory on the PRT
