Dear Singers,
Thank you for your interest in the Los Robles Master
Chorale - James Stemen, Conductor.
The chorale rehearses every Tuesday evening from 7:00 until 10:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks. Occasionally, there are extra rehearsals on Saturdays, as well as extra rehearsals scheduled during the week prior to each concert.
The Master Chorale has toured internationally, performing in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, London’s St. Martin-in-the-Field Church, San Marcos Basilica in Venice, Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica in Rome, Salzburg Dom, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig and Dvorak Hall in Prague. In July of 2006 we had a very entertaining tour of Scandinavia, the Baltic States and Russia. In May 2003, The Master Chorale had the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City, as well as singing Sunday Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
Auditions are by appointment. The audition consists of four parts: warm-up and scales; a tonal memory test, in which the pianist plays four or five notes at random to be repeated back; sight-reading test; solo singing of America the Beautiful a cappella.
Singers will be evaluated on intonation, reading ability, tone quality, range, tonal memory and choral singing experience.
Singers passing the LRMC audition will be participating for the first year on a probationary status. Prior to starting the second year singers will be re-evaluated using the original audition process. In addition, singers will be tested in a quartet setting on music learned for a previous concert. This review process may be repeated at the director’s discretion any time during your chorale membership.
LRMC singing standards are as follows: demonstrate a clear, focused tone quality and controlled vibrato; sing with an accurate sense of pitch and intonation; exhibit the use of proper vowels and crisp consonants; blend, balance and sing confidently in tune, in an a cappella quartet or larger ensemble; demonstrate music reading skills to facilitate rapid and accurate learning.
Please note that, upon acceptance into the Los Robles Master Chorale, members will be responsible for the purchase of their own concert attire, and concert music folder. Payment of a participation fee is also required.
If you would like more information, or would like to be scheduled for an audition, please contact Peggy Johnson at (805) 584-2357.
Again, thank you for your interest.
Sincerely,
Len Geres
