Mark your calendar: March 22 is Back Up Your Birth Control Day, and Planned Parenthood wants to make sure women who've had an "oops" moment know what to do-- and where to go. The morning after pill, marketed under the brand name Plan B, is approved by the FDA for prescription use as a "safe and effective way to prevent unintended pregnancies," says Becky Reid, spokesperson for Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge, who adds that only six percent of women report using emergency birth control, a fact she attributes to women's lack of knowledge on the subject. (An FDA panel had approved the drug for over-the-counter sale, but the acting head of that organization, Dr. Steven Galson, overruled his staff last May, citing concern about giving young teens easy access.)

Hi, this is Gary. I designed this website for my Senoir Project. I would like to thank you for viewing my website. I hope this site will help you understand more about the Morning After Pill.

Morning After Pill-  There have been those nights when you are at party, when you were in high school or in college. Things started to get hot between you and this girl/guy. You end up engaging in intercourse with that person. You did not use a condom or the condom broke. Well thankfully, there is an additional birth control measure that you or your partner can take. This measure is the “Morning After Pill.” The use of the Morning After Pill is highly accussed of being an abortion, but the Morning After Pill is not an abortion pill.

When to Take the Morning After Pill
You should take the Morning After Pill within 48 hours after you have had unprotected sex, for the pill to be 99% effective. The pill can be taken past 48 hours but the effectiveness of the pill lowers each day you wait. So please take the pill as soon as you can. The Morning After Pill is ONLY for females.
What Does the Morning After Pill Do?
The Morning After Pill creates an miscarriage. Doctor Lader explains in more detail "Normally, when progesterone locks into the receptor, all these biological processes are triggered. But RU 486 [the Morning After Pill], an anti-progestin, takes the space of progesterone without activating the process. Thus it “barricades” the receptor. Receptors are like magnets, recognizing the chemical affinity of progesterone (or other hormones) and exerting a binding force. When RU 486 penetrates the receptors, it binds to it and deceives it, working against implantation. The developing placenta and embryo detach from the uterine lining. The corpus luteum (a progesterone gland) starts to decay. Without progesterone action, there is increased contractility of the uterine muscle softening the dilation of the cervix, and contractions that dislodge and expel the embryo." So this proves that the Morning After Pill is not an abortion pill because the pill does not deal with the fertilization of the egg.

How to Get the Morning After Pill
There is two ways to get the Morning After Pill. The most common and easy way to get the Morning After Pill is to go to the local Planned Parenthood. At Planned Parenthood you can get the Morning After Pill for free. All you will have to do is fill out a couple of forms so that they have can have records for you. This is all done confidentially. The Second way to get the Morning After Pill is to go to your doctor and get a prescription. Your doctor will give you only one pill.
Why the Morning After Pill Is a Controversial?
The reason there is conflict with the Morning After Pill is the fact that a great number of people do not know what the Morning After Pill does. The people that oppose the Morning After Pill need to know how the Morning After Pill funtions. Congress is debating if the Morning After Pill should be legal. But the problem with the Morning After Pill is, the Pill blocks the egg from the uterus. This is were the whole conflict starts, but this does not make the Morning After Pill an abortion Pill.
