Welcome to the website of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, a fraternal organization dedicated to preserving California's history, improving its present, and ensuring a brighter future for all its residents.
The Order of the Native Daughters of the Golden West is a fraternal and patriotic organization founded on the principles of
Love of Home
Devotion to the Flag
Veneration of the Pioneers
Faith in the Existence of God
Love of California is evident in the Order's unceasing efforts to promote the study of her romantic history and reverence for the memory of the sturdy Pioneer Fathers and Mothers, the founders of our great state.
California born individuals should be proud to become members of the Order of the Native Daughters of the Golden West. And through our Parlor's activities members experience California's great heritage and make lasting friendships.
See bottom of this page for information on how to become a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED! The NDGW Home Committee is reviving the "Loyalty Pledge" from 1929-32. At Grand Parlor in 1929 Grand President Louise C. Heilbron, challenged all Native Daughters to donate $5.00 to retire the mortgage on our "new" Home at 555 Baker Street, San Francisco. Native Daughters responded as Native Daughters do, and amazingly, the mortgage was burned 3 years later. This achievement is even more remarkable when we realize that it was the middle of the Depression and that $5.00 in 1929 is equivalent to $60.00 in 2006!
Our Native Daughter Home has been supported through the years with the Home assessment, special events, and Parlor, District and member donations. But now our Home is more than 75 years old and in constant need of repair and improvements which these sources of income no longer cover - and YOU can help, as did your sisters from long ago. We are asking each NDGW member, as an individual, to voluntarily pledge $5.00 per year for 5 years. The Home is not only a multi-million dollar asset, we need to maintain it. Is $5.00 a year for 5 years worth it? We hope you will agree with your sisters from 1929 that it is well worth the expense.
Our order has been built upon its caring and dedicated members, and here is your chance to help write a new page in our history book demonstrating that these qualities are still alive and well in the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Please make checks payable to "NDGW Home" and mail to: Home Pledge, 555 Baker Street, San Francisco, CA 94117.
Submit your pledge now and be part of the "Loyalty Pledge II" of the new millennium. Your Native Daughter sister of 75 years in the future will honor your service and loyalty to our Order.
In sisterly love, NDGW Home Committee | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
What We Do:
![]()
Historical Landmarks
Native Daughters place commemorative markers on historic sites in an effort to install in future generations an appreciation of California's unique history.
Civic Participation
In 1850 California became the 31st State admitted to the Union. Each September 9th the Native Daughters of the Golden West participate in parades, picnics, and other commemorative events in their communities, reminding California's citizens about this important date in our history.
Education & Scholarship
Any member, son or daughter of a member, who is born in California may apply for a scholarship offered by the Native Daughters of the Golden West. Scholarships for any campus of the University of California or California State System are available, as well as for other accredited California universities, colleges, vocational or trade schools.
California Missions
The Mission Era of California may seem worlds away from our modern day skyscrapers. The Native Daughters have labored to help restore and preserve the beautiful monuments which are found in our twenty-one missions, creating learning centers for children and adults alike.
Children's Foundation
The future of our State lies in the hands of the children of California. Native Daughters assist children who have special medical needs that are beyond the family's means. By raising funds on a local level members make a positive difference in the lives of children from every corner of our State.
