Faith in What?
Many religions teach faith. Everyone from the motivational speaker to the strange and somewhat obscure philosopher says “HAVE FAITH”.
One says have faith in humanity! Another says have faith in life! Yet another might say have faith in yourself! Still more will add, have faith in your mental powers or thought process, have faith in another person, Have faith! Have faith! Have faith!
Rarely does anyone say have faith in GOD! Even if they do, its such a general reference that I am sure that many times they are not positive of whom they speak! The Man Upstairs, The Good Doctor, The Big Guy or sometimes a timid point to the ceiling represents to an individual a vague image and concept of some kind of GOD. I have even heard GOD referred to as “The Big Kahuna”.
Read this story from the Bible! I want you to notice something as I did.
(Mat 17:14-19 KJV) 14 And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying, 15 Lord, have mercy on my son: for he is a lunatic, and sore vexed: for ofttimes he falleth into the fire, and oft into the water. 16 And I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him. 17 Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him hither to me. 18 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. 19 Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
Now read this!
(Mat 17:20 KJV) And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
First - He calls them a faithless generation Second - He answers their question “Because of your unbelief”.
Ask yourself these questions: Lacking faith in what? Unbelief in what?
When they marveled at the fig tree, He told them again:
(Mat 21:21 KJV) Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.
“If ye have faith, and doubt not” - Faith? Doubt not? In what? Yourself? Others? Goodness? The Golden Rule? What? What? What? Jesus answers this question for us in Mark very plainly!
(Mark 11:22 KJV) And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
(Mark 11:23 KJV) For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.
We always have seen the parts that say “whosoever shall say unto this mountain” and we read “shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe ” - “he shall have whatsoever he saith.”
WHY? Because of this! “Have faith in God” (In Jesus, in the Holy Spirit)
Don’t look to miracles, LOOK TO JESUS! Don’t look to a faith healer, LOOK TO JESUS! Don’t look to your own resources like its something you have got to conjure up! LOOK TO JESUS!
(Heb 12:2 KJV) Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Presumption and FAITH are NOT the same! Presumption and assumption are as good as a guess! FAITH in absolutely knowing.
Press in to know Jesus! Know Him more personally than ever before and see how your faith will grow toward a LIVING GOD! Your answer will come through His Holy Spirit!
