Now let’s talk about the show whose attendance was approximately three hundred. Bob Nelson of the Yellow Rockers provided music throughout the show.
“Da Church Lady “ Clara Goliday Holmes intermingled with the gathering crowd as she strutted her stuff keeping the audience in stitches, prior to the introduction of the Mistress of Ceremonies Marilyn Bradford Evans.
As with any event at Dollarhide, the show started with a prayer and the pledge of allegiance. Marilyn Bradford Evens, founder of 40 Plus Modeling Troupe introduced Reverend Zane Talbert who brought us two songs.
The guest speaker Ann Woodmore brought us outstanding talk Celebrating Womanhood & The Senior years, after which she received a standing ovation.
Next Lady H Walquer Vereen brought us her one woman rendition of The GRAND Queen Mother”, which rendered her a standing ovation, as she sang and spoke to the audience about what a GRAND Queen Mother really is.
Clara Goliday Holmes came back to us with her Southern Bell and Mom’s Mabley characters which continued to keep the audience in stitches.Bob Nelson and his Yellow Rockers got the audience to their feet as they danced while waiting to be served lunch.
After lunch Red Hatitude Ladies of Distinction along with other Red Hat chapter were introduced and greeted. And last but not least several models from Marilyn’s Bradford Evan’s 40 Plus ’s Modeling Troupe graced us with fashions as they strolled the floor in elegance and grandeur sporting day-wear and ending with evening attire.
The hat raffle turned out to be comedy in motion because some of the models did not want to part with their coiffeurs. At the very end Red Hatitude Ladies of Distinction members, led by Lady Vereen strolled the isles in their red on red as they Turned Red as well as Turning Head.
As Queen of the chapter I’m glad I had the insight to register Compton California’ first Red Hat chapter. Being part of the chapter has given me the opportunity to meet and be a part of a group of wonderful women.
Our next event is scheduled for May 2006, and we know it’s going to be bigger, better and we look forward to seeing all of you again, as well as others.
For persons attending the event and other Red Hat Chapter considering doing fashion shows or other events please consider contacting some or all of the persons who helped make our show a success. You won’t be disappointed.
There are also 2 videos available at reasonable prices that I encourage you to purchase for your chapter’s enjoyment, or simply just see what we enjoyed. Pictures will be upcoming as they are available.

Being Fifty
I think this is a wonderful time to be fifty. One of the nice things about being fifty is you can do anything you wish because you are your own person. You've gone through the over the hill part; and turning forty wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be.Many of us finally realized turning forty wasn't over the hill, as much as it was over the HEEL for many of us.During the forties our children grew up,I sometimes jokingly say mine are “grown and gone”. Along with our forties came lifestyle changes both good and bad, independence, divorces, and even some deaths. The forties was a time of learning and somehow taught us valuable lessons. The first lesson surely must have been how to accept the fact that age is just a number. The second lesson turning fifty didn't mean we were old. The third lesson surely should have taught us being fifty actually meant we'd been blessed to live long enough to taste many flavored fruits from the trees of life.Turning fifty meant we have taken care of ourselves, and many of us still looked and felt fabulous. Lastly it meant we were and still are soulful women either by race or nature. One of my ancestors always used the phrase “just keep on living”, Now I’m old enough to know what that means.  50 Going on 25
I had a birthday the other day. I’m now half century plus a few. There was a time when I wouldn’t tell; because it mattered to you. I grew out of that stage a few years ago when I cared about what you thought.I’ve been blessed, because I have something, no amount of money could have bought. I’m living my life the best I know how; trying to treat everybody right. When I lay down and close my eyes,I have no problem sleeping at night. I may be a few years older now, but I still have some of the same dreams;I still like walking in the park holding hands,as silly as that all seems. I still enjoy the feeling of the sand between my toes; those old songs still make me cry; why heaven only knows. I love shopping for a new dress when going on a date, but haven’t yet mastered the nervousness of meeting a possible new mate. My high heels are as much a part of me as the hair on my head, going out without them is something I truly dread. I love flowers;roses are my favorite. Bring me flowers and I’m just like a little kid. I had a birthday the other day; a half Century plus a few. If you’re blessed to keep on living you’ll feel the same way too. Copyright 2004 Kay Durden
