WELCOME: Our Queen is HRM Queen Cynthia, and we are the ladies of Red Ribbon and Lace. We are located in Sun City, California and we invite you to come out and play with us.
WHO WE ARE: Red Ribbon and Lace is an official chapter of the The Red Hat Society. We are a dis-organization of women that enjoys dressing up in what we refer to as "full regalia", then we head out together as a group in search of fun and a great adventure. We accentuate the positive with a "can do" attitude, then we go out and do "IT" with gusto!

WHAT DO WE DO? Well...anything we please!
We have fun.
We play "dress up".
We love to laugh and do crazy things.
We are always looking to make new friends.
And we love eating dessert first...life is so short ya know!

ROYAL DECREES (as borrowed from Queen Char and her most royal and highly exalted kingdom):
Officially there are no rules in the Red Hat Society. Each chapter makes up their own ways of doing things. For Red Ribbon and Lace, the way of doing things is decided by me, the Queen. These are my royal decrees for our chapter:
*The proper colors must be worn by all members of Red Ribbon and Lace to all events. If you are 50 or over, your colors are purple clothes and a red hat. If you are 49 or under your colors are lavender clothes and a pink hat.
*Hats are NOT optional!!! The last misguided soul who tried to attend an event without her hat is still roasting on the spit.
*Each member of the Royal Court will choose a title and office for herself or be subject to whatever lame thing the Queen comes up with! If you are under 30, the title of "princess" is recommended.
*Each new member shall be given a task to perform for the Royal Court. Don't Worry, your creativity and silliness will be at its all time best!
*Henceforth and forever more the official Royal Dessert of Red Ribbon and Lace is Butterscotch Tort. Why? Because that is my favorite dessert...I am the Queen, and I said so!

IT IS GOOD TO BE THE QUEEN!

The official mascot of the Red Hat Society is Ruby RedHat, a frisky, full-figured little lady cleverly disguised as an adult. Ruby represents the spirit of the little girl who is alive and well inside each of us.

Ruby is the embodiment of the attributes and attitudes that Red Hatters admire and hope to emulate themselves. Here are Ruby RedHat's Top Ten Rules for Living, Plus One. (In her typical fashion, she says there's always room for one more!) While the Red Hat Society has no rules, Ruby's rules for living are worth listening to!
1.Accept reality and live in the here and now. Ruby can't be bothered with "what-ifs" or regrets. She says they interfere with her fun!
2.Accentuate the positive. Ruby always chooses to find the good in any situation she is faced with. She says she would rather develop laugh lines than frown lines.
3.Nurture yourself. Ruby listens to herself and provides for her own needs. When she needs a break, she gives herself one!
4.Indulge your sense of humor. Ruby heartily appreciates the value of laughter.
5.Play! Either Ruby never grew up all the way or she has regressed. In either event, she knows how to have a great time!
6.Dress up! Ruby adores embellishing whatever she is wearing with glitz, glitter, and glam.
7.Cultivate an openness to new things. Ruby will try almost anything.
8.Express your creativity. Ruby thinks "outside the hatbox".
9.Exercise compassion. Ruby loves to laugh and cry with others.
10.Have courage! Ruby knows she is up to the challenge of whatever may come.
11.Make up for the sobriety of your youth! Ruby says that she, too, was dutiful in her younger years and now she has a lot of quirky stuff that she needs to get done!

I highly recommend you read the book The Red Hat Society Fun and Friendship After Fifty, by Sue Ellen Cooper.

Believing that a woman's fiftieth birthday should be a time for celebration, not a milestone to be feared, Sue Ellen Cooper started giving a red hat to all her friends approaching the big five-oh. This soon became her signature gift. When she and her firends went to tea in full regalia (wearing a red hat and purple is a must), the first chapter of the Red Hat Society was born. In just three years, the concept spread like wildfire: There are now over three hundred thousand Red Hatters across the U.S.A., Canada, and even around the world...all forging new friendships, deepening old ones, and, most important, having fun.

You don't have to be a member to enjoy the official book of the Red Hat Society. Remember what it was like being a little girl and playing with your friends? This book shows you how to recapture that wonderful sense of joy and sisterhood. Filled with inspiring real-life stories, you'll meet other women just like you who are making peace with their bodies (finally!), learning to revel in the here and now, and striking out on exciting new adventures. Let the Red Hatters in this book help you discover what they know--that fun really does begin at fifty!

WHAT WE WEAR:
We love dressing up in what we call "full regalia". For those of us 50 and older, we wear purple clothes, and a red hat. Gals 49 and under wear lavender clothes and a pink hat. The glitz and glamour is wonderful, and ohh so much fun! We love to accessorize with gloves, pins, scarves, bracelets, rings, feather boa's, hand fans, fancy purses...if it is available, we want to try it!

  WHERE DO WE GET IT?
There are several places to buy the items that you want to wear. If you go to the Official Red Hat Society web site, you can go shopping there. You do not need to spend a lot of money for your outfits. You can go to the local thrift stores, vintage stores, antique dealers, for clothes and accessories. If you find a white outfit that you like, buy it and dye it. Many boutiques are now carrying Red Hat items. Look around. If it is available, you can find it.

Sister Hatters Cooking It Up
We are linked with the Belleville Red Hatters in Illinois. They have 2 web sites for you to visit. One has over 600 recipes that you are welcome to look at and print out for your use. If you have a recipe that others may enjoy, you are welcome to submit the recipe. The other website has a home economist and a chemist that you can send e-mail to and have questions answered. Both links are on the left side of this site for easy access. Enjoy!
