Welcome to Redwood School's Library
This page was created to help parents and students know about special happenings in our library. Check in here frequently for the latest news.
Last day to check out books! May 28, 2010

Bring in Box Tops!!  My next submission deadline is May 28, 2010! Remember to bring in your Box Tops. The new and improved map is hanging up in the window of the library. There have been a lot more names added to it!

We surpassed our goal of $705.00! Remind your child to come into the library and look at the selection of books that was purchased with Box Top funds. There are some exciting titles!!

Last year, students brought in 5,860 Box Tops, earning $586.00 for the library. I would like to thank the families for participating, and for helping put new books on our shelves.

Once again, thanks, and keep clipping those Box Tops!

I would like to recognize Brittni Herren for completing all 50 of the state maps. That equals $125.00 for new books for the library. Great job Brittni!! Leah Eakes, Savannah Bollinger, and Jordan Babich have all completed over 20 maps each. (Over $50 each to go towards new books.) I applaud everyone's efforts.

End of the school year fast approaching!!
The last day to check out library books will be May 28, 2010. This allows one week for students to enjoy the books, and make sure that they returned on time. All library materials must be returned or paid for, or students may have their report cards held.
  California Young Reader Medal Nominees
Classes that visit the library this year are listening to books that have been nominated for the California Young Reader Medal. They will, once again, vote for their favorites.

Grades K-5 are listening to books in the Primary category and students in grades 3-5 are hearing books from the Picture Books for Older Readers category.

Nominees in the Primary category include, Do Unto Otters, Velma Gratch and the Way Cool Butterfly, A Frog Thing, Millie Waits for the Mail and My Life as a Chicken .

In the Picture Books for Older Readers category, Willy and Max, a Holocaust Story, Armando and the Blue Tarp School, and Owney, the Mail Pouch Pooch have been nominated.

Which book did your child enjoy? Ask them why they enjoyed that story.

The winners have been announced!! Check the link at the top left of the page for more information.

Library Website
Redwood library’s card catalog can be accessed online. The home page has links to Starfall, Mathscore, and many other educational games. Other schools’ card catalogs as well as the IMC’s catalog can be accessed through the web site as well. Please use the website address located in the links section of this page.
  The Missions are Coming!
Mrs. Haggard's 4th grade class will be displaying their California missions in the library. This class project was optional and students used books from our library and our district library, the IMC, to complete their research. Come in and admire their achievement! To go the page with the pictures of some of the missions, click on the link in the top left of the page.

Capri Sun Pouch Brigade
The library has signed up to redeem Capri Sun drink pouches.
A collection bin has been placed in the multipurpose room during the students’ lunches.
Terracycle© recycles these pouches into totes, pencil cases, backpacks, etc. These pouches have been seen in our local Safeway on the ice cream aisle. Two cents for each pouch will be given to our school.
This program reduces the amount of waste going into landfills, and provides schools with funding. For more information, please follow the link in the links section for the Capri Sun pouch Brigade.

To Date: April 16, 2010 1,961 pouches collected
