CALENDAR OF EVENTS

The Chocolate Festival.

Girls, you don't know what you missed today by not joining Princess La Di Dah, Mistress of Merriment and Lady of the Rings. We started with lunch at a french restaurant called La Creperie and had some delicious crepes, and then we needed to walk off what we just ate, and took a stroll down Second Street in Belmont Shore and visited places along the street and had chocolate turtle brownies, chocolate mousse canolas, and chocolate cookies filled with chocolate mousse. Yum-yum! Of course, there were other goodies from bakeries, ice cream places etc. that we never got around to tasting. There is always next year!

FEBRUARY 4-FEBRUARY 9 CARNIVAL PARADISE CRUISE The four ladies that went to Catalina and Ensenada, Mexico are Lady Wants It All, Royal Butterfly, Vice Queen Lady Spin and Win and Queen Lady Sharon. Some of us signed up for offshore excursions and enjoyed the bus trips very much from both excursions. We met with about 30 other red hatters that were onboard this ship, and doing what red hatters do best-have fun! There was a PJ Breakfast, games and prizes, and a tea party. The decorating of our doors was great fun since the doors were steel and we could only use magnets. So we all came prepared in advance and enjoyed doing this activity, too.

JANUARY

We will be having our annual planning meeting/brainstorming session.

Check out the months of the calendar due to the brainstorming that took place at the meeting.

Also,There are still some open places below that people could still sign up of their choosing, or there is a list above to choose from.

JANUARY 24--MOVIE DAY at 2:20 p.m. at Westminster 10 Theater. Let's meet about 2 p.m. at 6721 Westminster Ave. (92683) between Edwards Street and Goldenwest Street. font color=black>

As a side note, there has been some feedback regarding the giving of little gifts at the meetings. It is fun, and most appreciated, but it is not mandatory, strictly optional. If you want to give everyone a gift when you are coordinating a lunch and/or event, feel free, but please don't criticize those who choose to or not to.

We are looking forward to another fun filled year.

FEBRUARY 14 TBN, TRINITY BROADASTING The address is: 3150 Bear Street, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. The time will be at 11:30 a.m. and this will give members time to shop in the store. Then we will have lunch about noon to 12:30 p.m. Then some may choose to take in one of their full length movies after lunch at 1:30 or 2:30-there are different movies at these times. Don't forget this is Valentine's Day, so wear something red (other than the hat if you would like too)!

From the feedback that I have been receiving, this was a good choice of a place to visit. There are some very good food choices on the menu, so try something else other than the senior special next time! There were some people who signed up but didn't show up, so, just as a reminder, please let the Ruby Jewel person know if your not attending an event if you signed up for something, but something else interferes with your plans. Some of us even stayed for the full length movie afterwards.

FEBRUARY 19 Fashions by Nena's of La Habra. $30, lunch choice, Lasagna, cheese tortelloni with chicken in cream sauce or vegetarian lasagna.

What a great time! The Fashion Show by Nena's store had both red and purple clothes, as well as, beautiful clothes for all occasions. Some of us spent time doing what we do best-vendor shopping!

MARCH 13 Luncheon MIMI'S RESTAURANT AT 12:30 p.m. on Brookhurst and Ellis in Fountain Valley. Don't forget to wear "red clothes and purple hat".

We had a great turnout and a great time at our anniversary lunch. Lots of upcoming events were discussed and sign up sheets sent around. Our little waitress was very attentitive to our needs. Everyone seemed to love the tote bags that were given out as anniversary gifts.

MARCH 17 ST PATRICKS DAY TEA, at the Shamrock and Thistle Tea Room located on 12752 Valley View Street at the Bridgecreek Business Park in Garden Grove, CA 92845 The Phone Number is (714) 897-9442.The time is 12:30, and the cost is $20.30. We need a minimum of ten people, but more will be accomodated. The menu is a high tea with six kinds of sandwiches, potato leek soup, desserts, and varieties of teas. Since this is St. Patrick's day, wear something green or you will get pinched!

There were two guests from the Purple Plums of Fountain Valley. We all enjoyed the above luncheon with tea and scones, too. You lucked out by not getting pinched,if you wore green.

APRIL 5 FLOWER FIELDS FOR A RED HAT LADIES DAY STYLE SHOW AND HAY RIDE THRU THE FLOWER FIELDS.The address is 5704 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Driving directions as follows: Take 405 to I-5 South then turn left(east) to Palomar Airport Road, go down 2 lights to Paseo Del Norte and turn left again. Stay in the right hand turning lane, (there are two left turning lanes) then make an immediate right into the parking lot. This is located near the Carlsbad Outlet Mall and their are plenty of places to eat in this area before we go to the flower fields. The show is at 1p.m. Models from Oceana in Oceanside.

Nine Ruby Jewels members attended this fabulous event. The flowers were beautiful, the tractor ride very fun, the fashion show terrific and the strawberry shortcake very tasty.

This was the 1st annual Red Hat day at the Flower Fields. You might want to consider it for next year. Definitely worth the $15 price!!!!

APRIL 10 MEADOWLARK CLUBHOUSE

Breakfast at 9:30 a.m.(off Warner and Graham)

There were about 12 members that showed up for a very reasonable breakfast on this beautiful sunny morning. A very nice place to stop and have a meal here. Two sign up sheets for the May 8 luncheon at Mario's and also for the May 13 Buffet/Fashion Show in Orange were passed around.

APRIL 25 RED HAT SOCIETY DAY

MAY 8 MARIO'S RESTAURANT TO CELEBRATE CINCO DE MAYO AT 11:30 a.m. near Edinger and Springdale in HB.

Feliz Cinco De Mayo was held at Mario's with most of our 30 member group of ladies in attendance. A very nice "Pedicure Pouch" was given to all Ruby Jewel ladies, and we all enjoyed the individual bill with gratuity and tip already included.

MAY 13 BUFFET/FASHION SHOW AT THE TURNIP ROSE 300 S. Flower, Orange. A gourmet buffet brunch and fashion show from one of the local stores. This is a Mothers Day Luncheon. The cost is $24 for everything and is paid when we arrive. The time is 11:30

A wonderful time was enjoyed at this buffet luncheon and all who attended brought home a minature rose bush for coming this day. The fashion show was a show stopper, because all the outfits were made by the speaker and all accessories, like umbrellas, gloves, etc. were dyed to match each outfit. The entertainment of a keyboard and a male singer were enjoyable to listen to since this was to celebrate a Mothers Day Luncheon.

MAY 17 TAMBURITZANS(Saturday Night)A music and dance group of 36 students will treat us to a taste of Eastern European culture. They will be in tradional folk costumes, play instruments and dance to songs from Greece, Croatia, Romania, Czech Republic, Poland, and other countries. Please list your phone number on your check and the check is your receipt. Need money by March so reservations can be made.
